Hi Maniac,
I've been playing the game for some time now on a 120hz screen but experiencing some choppy/sluggish gameplay. The graphic settings are on Ultra except shadows on high and terrain quality.
When I turn off V-sync and I stand still and look at the scenery all looks good, but as soon as I turn while using the mouse it looks like it's skipping frames. As soon as I turn on V-sync it looks great but introduces more tearing, I compensate the input lag with the forcerender command from 3 frames to 2.
I do use RAW mouse input because I like the mouse responsiveness, even with it disabled it has the 'jittery' gameplay.
My system:
i7 2600K@4,4Ghz
SLI GTX 580SC 1,5GB edition
8GB@1600Mhz
I know v-RAM is the problem for many others but even when I lower the settings it still runs without smoothness. Do you know if this v-RAM problem is going to be fixed, I mean is there some leak or something? I find it pretty outrages that we can't play the game maxed with these systems..
Welcome to the EVGA Forums
What you have just described is a classic description of incorrect mouse settings for your hardware config
*Along with having some settings wrong for your videocard and monitor
You have a great videocard and a wonderful monitor.
Using the -correct- settings for your hardware will give you a "smooth as glass" experience.
First lets get your mouse working right.
The mouse and its settings is where many users make critical mistakes due to the way Windows and your mouse drivers work...
On most users configs, there are (3) different places to adjust ones mouse settings.
These all control aspects of mouse behavior such a polling rate, sensitivity and acceleration.
-->Many users to not understand these settings, how they are designed and how they work.
Mouse acceleration should -never- be used when gaming. (both in game and in the Windows control panel)
This feature was designed to force a mouse to "jump" or "skip over" pixels when using the desktop.
Using it when gaming can cause "Jittery" or "frame tearing" effects, since the mouse is NOT recording 1,2,3,4,5,6,7 pixels when moving but is jumping 1,5,10,15..
These terrible effects are enhanced when using a high polling rate mouse, as the videocard is stressed when trying to render smoothly, at the same time as its being asked to "skip" frames..
The exact effect your seeing
It would take pages to properly explain this...
Turn OFF the RAW mouse input setting in-game
Leave ALL mouse settings in-game at defaults (RAW input OFF)
Leave all settings in the Windows mouse control panel at defaults
Make ANY changes to mouse behavior -ONLY- in your mouse's Driver control panel
Adjust sensitivity (speed) and polling rates ONLY (to your personal taste) and leave any "Acceleration" setting at default or OFF
Here is my mouse driver control panel setup
*My mouse is setup for the way I play..
I like a very quick response for snap shots, but also I need perfect aiming control and I like less than 3.5 inches on a 90 dergee sweep... and no matter what motion I input, my screen must never tear or jitter -period-
Next up is your single GTX 580 1.5 gig videocard, running that great monitor
Your BF3 in-game graphics settings are totally incorrect for the hardware you are using.
You must NOT use Vsync (in-game or in the NVCP)
-->you need all the frames you can get when using a 120hz monitor
Next, make your in-game settings match exactly what is posted below (for testing)
With the correct setup of your mouse and the above changes to your in-game graphics settings, you will now have a wonderful -smooth- experience when playing BF3 on your 120hz monitor
