damn, and here i was hoping the 2012 serial number cards were the 'good ones'

Evga. I was hoping to troubleshoot it and get it fixed, but it is dead. The weird thing is that the pc will boot to desktop, but the screen is black and the video card has no sign of life at all aside from that one led.

Even when the card died, i could still hear the game and discord chat in the background, so initially i wasn't worried, I just thought the game had crashed.  Even when i hit the reset button, the pc booted into windows, as my custom rgb keyboard/mouse profile loaded, and that only happens once windows has booted, i just had the no signal detected message on the monitors, thats when i investigated further and saw no GPU rgb, apart from the single red LED, thats when i googled the problem and found this forum

Same issue , 1 week old card worked fine till tonight when it just gave me a black screen , rebooted my sistem and guess what red light on pcie and it's dead

bit of a surprise knock at the door this morning, my fresh 3090 arrived, wasn't even aware they had sent a replacement.  They only confirmed it as faulty yesterday, I mean, I knew I would get a new one, but as i decided to rma with the retailer rather than EVGA themselves, i wasn't sure of the timescale.
 
i have not opened it yet, but this cards a 2012 serial number from china, my bricked unit was a 2014 from Taiwan, will keep the forum posted.
 

Where are you located in the world ?
do they actually need to confirm with RMA ?

Ok please put the card in and somehow play two weeks worth of games today to test this 2012 theory for me. :)

My replacement came yesterday and it was also a 2012 from China. My first 3090 was a 2014 from Taiwan. So far so good, played Cold War last night for 6 hours and everything ran amazing.

I'm going to email Jayztwocents and see if he can get to the bottom of this, I know he's in contact with the EVGA people often. As usual the EVGA RMA process was great and I have a new 3090 FTW3 arriving Tuesday.

I wanted to do the exact same! Let us know if he responds or anything, him or Gamers Nexus would be good people to contact for this issue.

Just wondering were there any recent updates to the hardware of these cards from the first few batches to the latest ones?

 
My case is s a little difficult to get to at the moment, but I have a new case and cpu cooler arriving tomorrow. When I get the card out I will see if I can find any type of revision number on the board.

I've installed my second 3090 ftw ultra oc, and its been running an hour, which is 30 minutes longer than my old 3090!, my first was a 2014 card from Taiwan, this ones a 2012 from china, i had hoped it was a dodgy batch, but from looking about on this forum, plenty of 2012 cards are going the same way, if im honest, i have zero confidence in this card, and feel its just a matter of time before it bricks.

My second card was 2012/China. Card died when I launched Witcher 3. No red lights. The card just isn't recognised and only one fan works, spinning up and down. Fingers crossed for y'all. I got confirmation from EVGA that my new card will be going out today with 2012 SN

In my experience (1st card fail 2012sn 2nd card ok 2012sn, both 3080s) and having played many different games, the problem started DAY 1, power ON 1. Meaning the faulty card showed it was faulty during the first time I logged in a game (world of warcraft medium settings). Then it was doing all sorts of freaky behavior with the fans up and down, fan 3 not working, black screens and fans revving, sound like you cannot imagine at benchmarks (while passing the benches lol). Funny, I never had red lights. It was just dying slowly with no red lights. New one is 14 days in no problems with multiple games on the exact same rig. Hopefully this is it but will wait a few more days crossing fingers.
 
I don't think its a game related issue though. Games I have played for hours so far:
GTA V
Division 2
Cyberpunk 2077
Forza Horizon 4
CoD Cold War
WoW
 
All full ultra settings. I think a bad card will show its problems on day 1. Abnormal behavior simply shows. I didnt tackle it right away when I first heard the fans revving because my previous GPU was a 1060 so I thought "this is how beastly GPUs behave". Then I realized its NOT normal that the GPU goes berserk when I play wow at medium settings (because higher settings drove the card even more mad) and soon after multiple black screen/fans revving crashes started.
