I experienced an issue w/ the 3090 as well - crash, no video output, but can hear windows running just fine. Fried my motherboard, the pcie16 slot was busted afterwards.

Moved it to a new PC, and experienced the exact same crash as above, although this time it didn't fry the mobo, at least.

more details in a thread here: forums.evga.com/FindPost/3150118

This just happened to my 3090 FTW3 Ultra.  I was playing Halo MCC of all games.  Paused the game to go turn subtitles on and heard a pop.  PC restarted with the single red LED (the far left one) on the GPU.  Customer support was extremely helpful and fast though and they have me another card coming by next week hopefully.  This was with a Asus Thor 1200W PSU and no overclocking on the card beside raising the power limit to 107% in Precision X1. My previous GPU on the same PSU had no problems whatsoever.  Just wanted to add my experience in here.

Same game that caused my issues, although I didn't hear a pop.

I just read the details in your other post. That sounds like a nightmare. Can you tell us if there was a single red light above one of the VGA power pins like in other cases here? I’m trying to determine whether I should be concerned about my mobo’s pcie16 slot being damaged as I wait to buy the 3090 FTW3 Ultra Hybrid after having RMA’d the 3090 FTW3 Ultra for a refund earlier this week. Of course I sold my 2080Ti right after I installed the new card, so I don’t currently have another GPU to test in my mobo in the interim.

I don't recall seeing a red light. I didn't know to look for it at the time, so it's possible I just missed it, or else my issue is slightly different from what others are experiencing but has the same symptoms(no video output while PC keeps running). The crash on the second PC didn't have a red light, but like I said that one was fixed after a reset, not a permanent death.

I just ran an benchmark overnight, and frame capped it to be between 5-15% GPU usage, similar to what MCC ran at when I experienced both the crashes.. and it ran all night with no issues. My issues right now seem to be extremely specific to MCC. For the time being I just uninstalled it. If it happens in another game, especially one with low usage, that's another data point that might help track down the issue(hopefully not frying my current/replacement motherboard in the process).

Thanks for letting me know. Hopefully, whatever is causing this issue will be resolved with the Hybrid series, at least in my case. Was your mobo that fried using pci 3.0 or 4.0 slots? I wonder if there is any correlation between the pci bandwidth available to these cards and the failure rate of the power pins.

Wow. That’s even more discouraging to hear. Mine died on an AORUS Master Z390 which is PCI 3.0. I guess these cards do not discriminate when it comes to where or when they will die. Let’s hope for a resolution soon.

Thanks again for all of the information!

Just another data point to add.  My 3090 FTW3 died after 10 days of usage (Friday 11/20), with the red LED lit above the left most power connection.  This was running on a Gigabyte Aurous Master AM4 m/b with a Ryzen 3950x on a Phanteks (Seasonic rebrand) 1000 watt 80+ Platimum power supply.  No daisy chaining of the power connectors.  Tried swapping the power connectors around, and the red LED stayed lit on the left most one.  The card was working fine on night 9 of ownership, during which I had watched about 6 hours of Twitch.  Turned computer off for the night.  Turned computer on the morning of day 10, and the red LED was lit, no RGB on the card, and no video output.  Otherwise computer seemed to boot fine.  Tried all of the standard troubleshooting steps.  Started cross ship RMA on the 20th.

I was running X1 precision to control the RGB, and had played around with overclocking, but was not overclocking at the time.  I did not hear any audible pop or any other non-normal sound when I shut down the computer on the 19th nor when I turned back on on the 20th.  And, do not own Halo MCC, so have never run that game.  SO, back to running my founders 2080ti which is working fine until the replacement 3090 FTW3 gets here.

Also, the customer support rep, Jose, that I spoke with on Friday morning last week was very courteous, and sympathetic that the card had died.  I have no complaints at all about the customer service experience.

Update on my red light issue, it turned out to be a faulty PCI-E cable.  I swapped out with one I ordered and all is good.  One thing with mine, I did some trouble shooting and everytime I moved the one cable to a different power line (1-3) on the card, the red light would follow.  I would suggest, if you do have a redlight, to try and swap the position of the cables and see if the red light follows.  If not, it will probably be RMA.

Thanks for that update. In my case, when I would swap out the cables, the red light would stay on above the first power connector which led me to RMA.

It was the left one. I then used a seperate PSU my brand new Corsair SF 750 platinum to power the XC3 by itself and then 2 red lights? I brought my card to my friends house who owns a 3080 FTW3 and put my card in his system and got the red light on the left again.

Very interesting.  For what it's worth, I just spoke to an EVGA tech support representative a few minutes ago, and he confirmed that my RMA'd 3090 FTW3 Ultra failed testing.  So it looks like it was the card itself that failed and not my hardware, at least in my case.

Yeah at this stage I look to be on the same boat. I enabled my integrated graphics and ran my system off that, plugged in my card again in hope that PX1 could detect it and possibly do a firmware update but neither device manager or PX1 could detect it. :(

I'm back up and going after replacing my single red light failing card.

Very scared though as I had my replacement go black screen in GTA5,   soft reboot,  no video fans remaining spinning at 100% TWICE.   Cold boot resolved.

errrr   Praying this isn't a sign of things to come.    This card passed some real life gaming tests,  few bench runs,   but reboots my PC when I run Port Royal which worked 100% flawlessly countless times on my previous 3090.

I really don't have much confidence in this thing!!!

I know how you feel.  I originally intended to RMA my card for a replacement, but then as I kept seeing more examples of multiple replacement cards failing in the same way, I decided to just request a refund since I was still within my 14-day return period.  I have been without a GPU for a couple of weeks now, having sold my 2080Ti Ultra Hybrid when I bought the new card, but I was fortunate enough to get into the 3090 Kingpin queue last week, so all of this may be worth it soon.  GOOD LUCK and here's to hoping your card lives for many years to come.

FWIW, both of mine failed testing at the retailer I RMA'd thru as well, which makes sense since using different PSU cables made no difference.

I bought my card from a pc shop in Aus. I don’t know if I should return to them and let them RMA or go direct via EVGA.

Howling did you have it before it broke? Also what model is yours just out of interest

ftw3 3090 ultra.  I was in the middle of playing Mafia when the game froze and lost connection to TV.  Rebooted and no RGB light up but 1 single red led.  Plugged in my old 2080ti and works fine.  Had the card for roughly 11 days and I don't even overclock
The rep was really quick to issue a RMA though, so I think it is widespread enough

Well,  at least we can put to bed the original issue of whether or not the limitation getting a card to 500 watts is a system or card limitation is solved.     I just played Star Wars Fallen Order for an hour or so,  was watching GPUZ pop up in the high 400's.   Checked the max after the game session and now see a 496.1W  !!   This is the exact same system config as before.   Never could touch over 454 on the previous card.

Really sad to see others going through this same experience.  As if the 3000 series wasn't plagued already with enough issues from stock to PR,  we now have to worry about this.    At least it seems like EVGA isn't the type of company that will leave us with bad cards.   If these are notoriously bad,  they'll fix them in a later revision.   Any of us who use our cards like a person who spends 1800 dollars on a video card should, likely will experience a failure if there's a "weak link" on the card.

Otherwise K1ng me. :P

Haha well played. 👑 That is what I was thinking in going for the Kingpin. Hopefully whatever problems are plaguing the FTW3 cards won’t carry over to the Kingpin cards since they have a different PCB design.

On my 3rd 3090 FTW3 Ultra now.  Really hoping this one does well!  Got one of the new revisions with this RMA (black trim instead of red like my previous two cards).  This card went into a brand new build with all new parts -- really hoping it doesn't red-light again.

Halo MCC claims another victim... It's weird, I don't know if everyone is just playing this game right now, but both me and my brothers 3090 Ultra died about an hour apart while playing MCC about 2 weeks ago, and you're the 3rd person I've seen on this forum have their card die while playing this game... Now I'm definitely scared to try it again since getting my new card.

This is oddly similar to what just happened to me on my 3080 FTW3 Ultra. I was playing the new Halo 4 MCC campaign with some friends and it killed my 5 day old card.

Fans went full speeds. I lost visual but could still hear discord/the game.

Upon rebooting my PC, I heard a pop and I had a solid red light on my card. No video after that point, swapping in my old 1080 ti and everything is working fine.

So add another person to the Halo MCC victim list

We really need some transparency here regarding these issues. This is clearly not just localised to a few outliers, enough people now have posted that we need to know what is causing this on the cards and if it's something to be worried about.

Direct Die 9900K | EVGA 3080 FTW3 Ultra 1950MHZ @ 875Mv | 16GB Corsair Vengeance 3600Mhz DDR4 CL18 | ASUS Strix Z390-I | NCase M1 V6.1

Why drive on 4 wheels when you can ride on 2.

I suppose the question is:  How many people have a working 3090 FTW3 and for how many days, weeks, months has it worked with no issues?

My card was received a week and a half ago, it was installed today.  It has red lips.. was a notify queue card direct from evga.

Halo MCC claims another 3090 ftw3... Seems like this is a great game to stress test your card with. If you dare. Card was 3 weeks old at time of death.

Made it through all of Reach and had just started into Halo CE, alt tabbed out of the game and then heard a pop sound. Then no video out from the card. Unplugged the system, discarded all the power, tried 3 separate PCIE outlets on the power supply. Still Stuck with no video and 1 red led on the left most power connecter. Power supply is a evga 1300w g2 and system is connected to a UPS.

Red lipped Taiwan card from the evga queue, now in the RMA queue.

Once again at least EVGA support is awesome to deal with!

Ugh.  Sorry to hear this.  Mine had died in the first few minutes of playing The Division 2.  Maybe you'll receive a black trim version now and the problems will be fixed.  I'm waiting on my Kingpin purchase email, and hopefully it won't suffer from the same red light of death issue.  Good luck!

I wonder if this is a BIOS thing they can fix via an update?

I've been using my black trimmed RMA card (3rd EVGA 3090 FTW3 I've used now) since finishing my new build.  Has been working great so far!  My last red rimmed RMA died within hours.  Hope this card continues to rock on!

Saw this forum and just wanted to post here
Received my red lipped 3090 FTW3 Ultra from Amazon on Monday
Was playing Halo MCC when my system shut off as if the power went out, rebooted and had the red light of death :/
After reading through everything here I'm very scared of my potential replacement (just emailed tech support an hour ago so I still have a ways to go for an RMA) when/if I get it.

Just wondering were there any recent updates to the hardware of these cards from the first few batches to the latest ones?
