Just got my 3080 XC3 Hybrid today. Didn't work out of the box. Second red led is lit. Have a 850 gold PSU. Works fine with my 1080to FTW3. Tried everything to get it to work, no go. DOA.

Is that a supernova?

I wonder if it is the red lipped 3080 ftw3 that are having the problems and not the black lipped version.

Just a data point for the discussion; I have a red lipped 3080 FTW3 Ultra from the initial release batch that I’ve been gaming on, overclocking, and benching for nearly 90d now and (knock on wood) no issues.

Hey me too, I have had mine since November 4th and been using it it with overclocked bios at 450w, I've run my gpu on a curve 2100-2070mhz @ 1.025v. Haven't had any crashes or issues so far with temps or anything, Only thing I've noticed that's weird is in HWINFO my ICX readings are spiking to invalid values Not sure if its just Hwinfo or sensor problem.

Most, if not all the dead cards I've seen have been from Taiwan (serial number starts with 2014). Any of you had a 3080 FTW3 from China (serial starts with 2012) die?

Mine (flawless since launch) is indeed a 2012 S/N.

Mine is Black lips serial 2012. Only had two weeks tho.

same thing happened to me but with my 3080 strix purchased on asus eshop after 3 weeks of use. Indeed, while I was playing assassin's creed valhalla, my computer shut down.I was checking the temperatures and they were only 66 Degrees C for the 3080. I checked everything and did cross tests and it came from the graphic card.Indeed when I connect an 8PINS cable to the right port the PC doesn't boot, while with the first 2 connected the PC turns on.Since I received it, I had no problem, everything was working perfectly, the card was connected directly to the pcie port and not a ryzer to a rm1000x with 3 different pcis cables and authentic as advised and has never been overlocked or disassembled. I tested all my pci cables, tested another power supply and they all work. As soon as a cable is connected to the 8pins on the right, the PC does not start. With the first 2, yes, but not enough power to use my PC.For info I have a 5900x on one crosshair viii and 32 gb 3600 cl 16 and one rm1000x. Unfortunely asus customer is not good as evga. 

Also for some reference here, my 3080 FTW3 just died exactly same behaviour as you've been describing, there was even some burned smoked smell.
Tested with another 3080 of a friend, and it's not my power supply.

Will contact EU Support to sort this out.

No overclocking. Still have switch in normal position. Playing Elite Dangerous. Have been playing Cyberpunk and Control with no issues.
Fans go full-blast and screen goes blank. Computer still running and can still hear ED doing its thing. Power down and restart with no signal to monitor and EVGA logo dark. Single red LED over left-most power connector. Swapped cable around and made no difference. Ded card.
Replaced with old 1080ti sc and works like charm.
Merry Christmas to me.

What EXACT Driver were you using?  The only common factor so far is it SEEMS everyone was using one of the latest drivers...

I’m leaning more towards precision x1 as I have only been using afterburner since November 4th and haven’t had any shut downs or crashes I’m even using XOC bios for my ftw3 ultra 3080. It’s also overclocked.

I installed precision x1 only to update firmware once when I first got it then set a fan curve and completely uninstalled px1. Then started only using afterburner and was able to set a fan curve on all 3 fans. No problems ever since.

It’s either driver or px1 that’s causing some of these problems and for some others maybe their psu.

No offense, but this is what you get from a power plant GPU. Just like the AMD fanboys defended the volcano like R9's while suffering bsod and black screens and melted vrams, etc. I still remember the lines : i don't care about wattage, i want power!

Yeah well enjoy you melt PCB. While Maxwell was pretty much flawless. Now i see the same dumb trend regarding Nvidia and it's power hungry 3080's and 3090's.

This is not even EVGA's fault here. There are alot more variables involved now with a 350W GPU...the strain on every component us enormous. Even if the card works well now, sooner or later it will fail.

I suggest everyone to downclock their heaters, i mean their 3080/90 cards by 50-100mhz, if you want your card to live long enough until next generation of GPU's.

My card died yesterday after finishing GTA. Roll credits and card's death. I had the card since December 19th and had it on a slight over clock running rock solid for about a week. It is a black lipped 2014 series card that had major soft reset issues when I first got it, but I thought I had figured those out with some software tweaks in the 3d settings and I made sure that I had no extension cables running to the card, or the CPU on the motherboard. The PSU I have requires a daisy chain on one cable as it only has two VGA slots on the brick, so I cannot work around this, but the EVGA rep stated this is 100% fine. I asked the EVGA rep if I can send in my brand new EVGA 750GT PSU and they said that would not be necessary only send the card as he currently has a 3080 FTW Ultra running on a 550 watt PSU with zero issues. I did try to swap cables on the 8 pin connectors hoping the red dot moved, but it sadly stayed at the last position on the left. I paid my collateral and hope to get a shipment notification soon. I will update and let you all know if I have some luck.

I do have gsync enabled. I don't understand how this would create these issues though?

just found this forum as i seem to be having the same issues as a lot of people on this thread, EVGA 3090 FTW ULTRA, had it running for no more than an hour (only received it in the post this morning) not even doing anything strenuous, just playing halo master chief, screen goes blank, all rgb on the card stops working, reboot the pc, and the card is dead, with a single red light above the power connectors.  tried the card in my sons system, same result.  i put my old 2080ti back in my pc, and everything works fine.

850w evga psu, all 3, 8x connectors on the GPU have their own feed coming from the psu, no daisy chaining
asus rog strix x570 mobo
zero overclock on the gpu, didnt have it long enough lol, and the drivers were the latest available from nvidia
