Increasing pagefile has fixed the issue for me, but what is weird is that I haven't change a thing in my system, then all of a sudden out of the blue this starts happening.. Isn't like the patch came out yesterday

I really wonder what triggered it?

Not sure, but I can say that during the last 3 days I have had 2 drops to the desktop and one hang.
That is more events, than the last 4 monoths combined in just a few days.

Hey so I have a question how do I turn on battlefields fxaa to x2 instead of msaax2? right meow i think it's running at msaax2 but i don't entirely know. as you can tell my gpu's are kinda outdated so I run with everything on low except 2xaa to remove the jaggy's and well I would like to increase my fps using the fxaa or whatever it's called how do I do so?
EDIT: Also I have heard that turning off Hyper-threading on my cpu increases performance but when I did that (on my old 560 I had) it killed the fps to just only 30 fps max restarted the pc and it still did it. Any idea on why?

As shown below, turn FXAA to HIGH and MSAA to OFF in the BF3 in-game settings

HT (hyperthreading) should be left ON in BF3 since a BF3 patch, turning it OFF reduces performance.

All depends on your hardware setup, videocard performance and monitor quality.
The short answer is NO, unless you have a config issue.

Audio settings. Why are they so misleading and confusing. Example. They have a option for headphones. Yet even the gerforce.com BF3 tweak guide says to use hi-fi if you are using quality headphones. Even your guide says so. I just got me some new headphones and initially. I set them to headphones in BF3 settings. I noticed right away it did not sound like it should have. Setting it to hi-fi fixed that right up. Much richer sound. The other thing is the "enhanced stereo option". I heard when using hi-fi it should be off. If it is not. It can actually degrade the sound? Basically I am wanting to know your thoughts and advice when using good headphones. Leave it on hi-fi and call it a day?

P.S.

I have also heard if you have 5.1 support for audio rather its a card or on board. You should set it to 5.1 sound in BF3 even when using headphones?

Yes its very confusing, this is because of the thousands of different ways to set it up hardware wise....

What audio card do you have?
The device the generates the sound output (sound card), along with what you are using to listen to it (speaker device)... determines the "best" settings for you.

One has to be careful when "testing" sound output for gaming
"Richer" is not always better, for instance if the BF3 (only 5.1 audio is supported) is hardware mixed by your 7.1 headphones and you lose a positional sound channel.... The crazy things done to make headphones "sound" like 5.1 or 7.1 is off the wall, depending on if the device maker had Music or Gaming in mind...

The best way to test, is to find a empty server and have a friend "test" the sound settings with you for positional fidelity, both ground and air.

I am not even going to attempt going into 5.1/7.1 sound or use the enhanced stereo option. I am only interested in hi-fi/headphones sound options since headphones is now my main setup. Dice should mention hi-fi is used for high quality headphones. Do you know how many people will just automatically set it to headphones? Most likely many. Including myself. Since I "thought" it would be best and make the most sense while using headphones.

Using GameTime.MaxVariableFps X in console or in user.cfg (where X is your monitor refresh rate) should remove 99.9% of tearing.

Question. Lately while playing, the game pops into windowed mode out of the blue and then pops back into full screen. What could this be? Then once when I deployed, I was in the game with no weapon. Some weird things have been happening lately.

Popping into windowed mode, is a new one I havent heard of (unless it AERO being disabled due to memory loading)
As for the "weapon" disappearing, this is a known game bug... a death will usually fix it.

Hey so I have a problem, I recieved a second evga gtx 260 core 216 (ssc edition paired along with my sc card) and well I am experiencing micro stuttering when moving and it's really bugging me. Is there any way to remove the stuttering? Oh and also, it seems that bf3 isn't fully taking advantage of my video cards as they are only running at 80% each and I think that may be causing the stuttering any help would be awesome, thank you

For 260 SLI running on a 2600k at 4.4, I suggest the following settings below for testing.

*These settings are suggested for your limited Vram (896mb) and DX10 setup.
Due to your videocard hardware, do not attempt to run higher "Terrain Quality" or "Shadow Quality" than those shown above, as "higher" settings for those values are -only- supported using DX11.

Okay, the game runs at higher fps but i'm still getting that annoying micro stutter. Is this that mincro stutter that everyone talks about with SLI? I didn't have this with my 8800gtx's in SLI.

EDIT: Well the micro-stutter is gone now that I played it a bit more, but my GPU's are only being used at 80% MAX. I used the render.perfoverlayvisible 1 and it showed my cpu below my gpu, does that mean my cpu is bottlenecking my gpu's? In any other game it goes above 80% except bf3 which to me is weird

hi, Maniacvvv

UPDATED INFO (April 13, 2012)
*I now -recommend- Nvidia 301.24 Beta as being the best driver for Battlefield 3

Based on what specification in the release notes can you state that the 301 beta driver is the best for BF3?
Or is this statement based on exstensive testing? I can not find one line in the release notes mentioning better performance or stability of fixed issue regarding BF3...?

regards,
Maccie

Your CPU is fine, no bottlenecking there. What the PerfOverlay is showing is that your CPU is not stressed running your 260's in SLI....
As for the 80% use, thats normal behavior with the newer driver sets after the last major Dice patch and is nothing to worry about.... I even see that with my 580's in SLI.

Hey Maniac and thanks for the reply.  Here's a bit more info that may provide some insight, plus more questions/issues.

Question/problem.
First issue/question.  Lately when playing the game pops into windowed mode and I get  a message with 3 options, don't recall the exact verbage, but one ask if I want to use regular window version/mode or something (the one I selected) and after selecting that option the game goes back to full screen and I don't have a problem with the game popping into window mode anymore, however this happens each time I first start playing the game, but is ok after making that selection.  Note: Memory only hits about 1.4gb.  What is this and how can I eliminate it?  I will try and remember to jot down the 3 options next time.

The 2nd issue is after playing for awhile the game freezes for about 2 seconds every so often, which makes playing difficult as you can imagine, especially if in the middle of a fire fight.  I restart the computer and that seems to fix it, but not absolutely sure because I have not played long after doing so.  Has anyone experience this, if so what was the issue and fix?

The 3rd issue or rather question is me getting killed, but never hearing any gunfire, just me falling to the ground and reaching up - what's that all about?  I kind off recall seeing a video where it showed both player's view of the game (i.e during the game) and there were delay reactions or something.

I've only been playing for maybe a month and I only started having these issues with the last week or so.

Thanks...Al

Ah, okay. Glad to know that i'm not the only one who gets that  Sucks that SLI can only use 80% of the GPU's, though!

Hey everyone, just made this account to get some help from the intelligent folks on this thread. So basically I'm getting severe stuttering (micro and macro). My performance overlay shows crazy spikes for the gpu and the cpu and these get worse the longer I play. I've also been experiencing some of the aforementioned issues like the screen flashing black when I die (accompanied with a huge cpu spike), and the game suddenly locking up and leaving me with a black screen. I'm playing on a subpar system, but the stuttering is the only real problem as my fps are decent enough. I'm running settings all Low, except Textures, Mesh, and Terrain Decoration which are at Medium. AF is also at 8x.

Specs: Dell XPS L501x | Intel Core i5 460M @ 2.53GHz | NVIDIA GT 420M OC @ 700/900 | 4GB 1333 RAM | 500GB 7200 RPM HDD

And one final question, what should these command line settings be set to to reduce cpu/gpu lag spikes?

RenderDevice.ForceRenderAheadLimit
WorldRender.DxDeferredCsPathEnable

Thanks for your input!

I assume you are running 1.5gig cards.
Try the settings below for testing bro

Also make sure you keep the FOV at below 75

RenderDevice.ForceRenderAheadLimit
WorldRender.DxDeferredCsPathEnable

Since your running only a HT dual core at 2.5ghz , reducing the stuttering is going to be next to impossible.

The best you can do is reduce the launching overhead (background processes) as much as possible.
No overlays in-game of anykind -period-. Next you going to have to shutdown everything possible to get the cleanest low overhead boot to the desktop... Go thru your MSConfig startup list and uncheck -anything- that is not needed to play BF3.

As for the "RenderDevice.ForceRenderAheadLimit" I would leave it at defaults in the config file, and test any changes using the NVCP. Try 3, 2 and 1 for testing (but dont expect any miracles)
For "WorldRender.DxDeferredCsPathEnable" there is nothing to be gained by forcing a DX change, as your bottleneck is mostly CPU and your DDR3 video memory speed.

Thank you for the reply good sir, you have indeed confirmed my suspicions. As it seems like my cpu is the major offender here, I'll try kicking up the clocks to see if that helps. Thanks again!

Yes! I certainly do recommend using the Official Nvidia 301.42 drivers for BF3

After install driver 301.42WHQL I got constant stuttering with my Gtx 560 Ti SC
Since I didnt change my settings before that, should I get back to olders drivers??
I forgot: I had that 296.10 before this 301.42
This one is annoying me...
