Hi there Maniac!

Thanks a lot for you fast response!!

=( It`s sad! But it`s ok anyway, the game is pretty awsome with the graphics on HIGH.

But even the VGA GTX 560 ti isn`t enough to run this game in ultra? I saw many videos on youtube, ppl showing their settings in ultra and with an FPS of 40-70.

Thank you again!!!! Have a great week!

I have dual 580's in SLI.... and -I- dont run all settings maxed bro

I have 2x GTX680's and I don't either, at 2560x1440, but that's because of Maniac's advice to lower textures to High as they look identical to Ultra but take 200MB less vram.

Also moved to FXAA (AA Post HIGH) instead of MSAA as it does the same job at 1440p with much less of a performance hit and it looks the same, here are my settings as Maniac suggested:

Dell U2711 IPS @ 2560x1440

I play mostly around 100-150fps with some dips to ~80s in heavy explosions and/or smoke/destruction.

Hi Maniac, what is your stand regarding physx set to cpu rather than gpu in nvcp ? I've tried it out today and the game seems to run smoother, also my graph (Render.perfoverlayvisible 1) seems to have less spikes.

BF3 does not use any form of PhysX -period-
As such I would leave it at default "auto select", but of course whatever works best for a given user and config is what is best.
*just dont forget you have on the CPU, lest you play a game that uses it... CPU PhysX is the worst performance possible, the GPU is hugely more powerful for running it.

Told you a reboot should have fixed it. Glad to hear it's working, that issue was quite annoying indeed.

Well the strange part was i didnt restart, i went test it to see if a restart was required, But since im here this is drected at you maniac:
I have ran stable OC settings on 285.79 NEVER crashing in any game after extensive testing, with the new driver im getting crashes due to OC'ing, i can confirm this cause its the same crashes that were happening when i was trying to OC in the old beta drivers(285.79). Im i correct in thinking some drivers are easier to OC on than others, or am i completly wrong? Im now stable again but with a lower core going from 880 to 865 on the core, its now stable on 865, i doubt ill notice the diffrence honestly in such a small drop but just curious.

Yes, different drivers can "sometimes" behave differently

Your just clocking the core right, not the memory?

Yes, i did up the memory but nothing crazy, i got it on 2050 currently, it is a very small inscrease, i thought about upping the voltage as my temps are stable, but i have a agressive fan profile so the temps dont get out of hand (67top/70bottom), i got it on 1.088v with core at 865, but like noted above it WAS at 880 stable under the 285.79 drivers, but i see some people are bumping it to 1.1v, but all rigs and cards are diffrent.

Does BF3 play well with the new beta drivers?  I've never used any beta drivers before and don't know what to expect if I were to consider installing them.

Thanks...Al

I'm going to have to try these settings as I am hitting 1900mb with all max settings.  Is MSAA missing?

I disabled MSAA because at 2560x1440 they literally look the same but, FXAA (AA Post) only has a ~1-2fps hit at most while MSAA has a ~30% performance hit...

I saw max ~1.7GB with MSAAx4, with Windows Aero OFF, so I guess you were seeing 1.9GB with AERO ON? Else I don't understand why.

I have a few questions. First one, I had my cpu at 4.2GHZ for a while at about 60c while playing battlefield3, but then I clocked it down to 2.9, and everything runs fine on high. Does core speed actually matter aboce 2.9?
My second question; is my graphics card good enough? EVGA gtx 460 768mb

[specs]
i5 2500k @ 2.9Ghz
1xEVGA gtx 460 768mb
4x2 GB DDR3 RAM
MSI p565 (or something, I don't remember)
Seinhesser HD SP somethings lol

The "sweet" spot to avoid videocard bottlenecking is a CPU clockrate of 3.6Ghz or better.
As for using a 768mb GTX 460 and BF3, the lack of VRAM is a issue for higher settings, and will make the game require increased texture swapping which will lead to less smooth gameplay.

If its running with your current settings OK and your happy, thats what counts.

If your looking for higher settings and increased framerates, then a completely new videocard would be the upgrade to make.

I guess I should try it with Aero off and leave settings as they are and see what I get.

Hello Maniac!

Do you know if it`s safe to use the 301.10 beta driver on a gtx 560 ti?
I`m using it, however I checked on some forums that this driver is gtx 680 based. I also checked that have some .INF files to use it on all video cards.

What is your thoughts?

Thank you!

As posted in this thread and in my 500 series sticky Nvidia driver thread....
I recommend the Nvidia 301.24 Beta as the suggested "best" driver for BF3 at this time
*this driver natively supports 600, 500, 400, 200 series cards

i resently updated to 301.24 and am experiencing some major lagging from my 2 570s at 1920x1200 with setting that where fine before. i have moved my bf3 from my ssd to hdd (put this but doubt it is the problem)
i like 301.24 because i can use surround again outside bf3 compared to 295.xx
is there any fix for 301.24 or do i have to go back to a older driver

You are the first to report surround issues with lag, so far everyone has siad its better for surround.

Check your ingame settings, and make sure you didnt miss anything when you setup the NVCP after the new driver...
Like remembering to enable SLI
*I've done that before :]

Not to harp. Just asking. When might the guide be finished? Been a long time and curious what you come up with.

EA/DICE was very very late in its primary major patch....
The word around town is there "may" be another on the second DLC release in June.

There are no real secrets, tips or major reveals to be had in a "future" update to the Guide
The drivers have appeared to stablize, but the biggest question is the map size for the fall DLC releases.
My guess whould be thats when a "final" wrap up should be coming.

And thats when I'll need to swap over into ARMA3 mode, after using the Beta over the summer.
Now -that- Guide is going to be massive huge and deeply complex, due to the game design, heavy footprint and open engine.

Did this happen more than once?

I personally have not seen that exact DX11 out of memory, but others have reported it.
It appears that since the major patch, there might be a few bugs lurking around...

I would keep taking the SS if and when errors are generated, but unless it starts happening over and over I would not be concerned...

NOTE: After such errors, it is always best practice to reboot before going back to play.

It happen about 5 times last night within a 1 hour window, so pretty frequently. You think I should try reinstalling the game ?

I tried the fix mentioned here http://forums.evga.com/tm.aspx?m=1461606&high=bf3+dx+error with no luck. Also tried repair install via origin, latest beta driver reinstall with no luck either.

Hold off on the reinstall
If your using Precision or AB.. try uninstalling and reinstalling that.
If its still doing it tomarrow, lets take a closer look.. but I'm thinking EA is just having a bad day

I just tried a slew of other fixes online with no luck, I have been able to almost instantly recreate it every time I cycle through the graphic settings presets (low/med/high/auto/custom)

Might not be a good thing to do

Pick out the settings, save them  and the close the game completely (to Battlelog) and the restart it.
This lets the settings changes take effect properly and allows the shaders to rebuild correctly.

Cyclying might induce an error, that is non recoverable on the next settings change....
You didnt by chance mess with settings the day you first saw this error?

Is your OS/Game drive in good health, with plenty of free space?

I only cycled through them once when I reinstalled the game, I couldn't even get through them all before it gave me the dx error.

Yes, still have plenty of room on the drive, so I knew it had to be something else.

Doing more testing now but increasing my pagefile seems to have done the trick.

Glad you seeing some sucess with your error bro, sounds like a buffer overflow or memory leak

And dont forget, as always with DICE patches (like the last major)... they are not bug free
