To add to my last post. This afternoon I did a DDU, reinstall of 441.66 and RDR2 is running back to its usual self as it was before I updated the driver. Played a good 4 hours doing some missions and Sharpshooter challenges.

I am going to try a rollback to this driver this evening. The latest driver update a few days ago my be the crucial factor. Ill let you know the result.

So, thanks to this and another thread, I finally got RDR2 to load up with SLI. I seemed to play a few sessions without issue. Now, however, I keep getting ERR_GPU_State error and subsequent crash after 2 to 20 mins of game play in online mode.

I have added the - ignorepipelinecache on the launcher but still I am getting these crashes.

Has anyone got any other hints that might get me up and running again?

I reverted back to 441.66 driver last night and played for a couple of hours without TAA enable. Then I enabled TAA and got about another 20mins before it ERR and crashed.

I will check out BaDBoy uK method now

441.66 does seem to be the best driver I have tried so far though

I have yet to actually play the game as I have been working through crashes and testing settings for better performance. I have it working with SLI (at least the OSD says so) and not crashing, however, that is with my GSYNC disabled. Once I enable that it pix elates on launch and crashes. Anyone have a remedy for this?

So, seems I am up and running in SLI with 2 x 2080TI after all this pissing about.

ERR_GPU_STATE crashes have been cured by using Nvidia Vulcan Driver 441.97 and the -Ignorepipelinechache in the launch argument

The initial issue of the game hanging on benchtest or launch was cured by the following line edit in the System.XML config file....
<transferQueuesEnabled value="false" />  to <transferQueuesEnabled value="true" />

GSync Disabled!

Hope this helps some of you!

Mine is now running all high-Ultra settings 1440p, capped with Afterburner at a solid 100fps! Result!! Thank for everyone in the thread for your help!

Are you getting any flickering/flashing?

This is ruining the experience for me. I am now at chapter 5 and I’m starting to think that it’s better not playing the game rather than playing it like this.

Yes, flickering and flashing in cutscenes and sometimes in the early morning sky.

Same here. Have you tried the 441.97 Vulkan drivers?

Nah, I use my PC as a workstation as well as for gaming. So my priority is stability, kinda scary to use beta drivers. People on guru3d are mentioning bug with Display Port and I don't want it to happen on my side :)))))

Do the Vulcan drivers only work well with games that support it? And if so how does it effect games that dont?

Re: Red Dead Redemption 2: SLI Support 2020/01/14 03:52:55 (permalink)
Greetings folks,

I´m new to the forums so I salute everyone :)

Me, as many others, joined here to discuss and try to be succefull with the SLI fix some had the joy to implement... others didn´t, like me :) I´ve gone through all 25 pages of this thread trying to make my GTX1080 SLI to work in RDR2.

I have a Core i74770k, 16GB RAM DDR3, Win 8.1 64bit. Tried the 441.12; .20; .66 and .87 drivers. Vulkan and TAA are enabled.

Done every step described by Sajin and Justus, tried the GTAV profile with rdr2.exe (having removed rdr2.exe from it´s profile prior to add it to GTA´s, apply changes before and after, doing the Drs read only thingy afterwards) - none of them were succefull.

One thing I noticed, and was wondering if it´s normal, if I export the edited text file immediatly after importing it, the default profile values are written back along side with Sajin´s and/or Justu´s settings... It seems Profile Inspector (or the driver altogether) is "forcing" its default values over the user specified ones. To avoid it I even tried to check the "read-only" box in the drs files after importing the text file (but before applying changes) to no avail. Profile Inspector always adds the default values back to the edited file... could this be the culprit?

After spending last night doing as suggested, step by step religiously, I ended up without the "luck" some had implementing the SLI fix (with more or less filckering). I experienced some changes along the way... sometimes worst performance than vanilla, sometimes blackscreens but never two cards running.

I´m partially, if not entirely, resigned to the fact that I´ll be playing RDR2 with only one card (as I did with most AC games) - after setting graphics as suggest in Hardware Unboxed video I´m getting 35-40 fps and smooth frametime so I guess I´ll settle on that.

To add to it, seems after June SLI will be definetly put to rest ;) cough cough Ampere

edit: also tried the nip file Justus provided. One thing I didn´t do was using the GeForce 3D Profile Manager.exe

Thanks to everyone digging this subject :)

Guys, after installing Vulkan drivers 441.97 and the latest game update I am able to run the game maxed out except for the following settings.

- Set the Lighting Quality setting to High.

- Set the Reflection Quality setting to High.

- Set the FXAA setting to Off.

- Set the MSAA setting to Off.

- Set the Resolution Scale setting to Off.

- Set the Reflection MSAA setting to Off.

- Set the Tree Tessellation setting to Off.

In the most demanding section of the game (Sean’s party), FPS didn’t fall under 60.

I’ve noticed at 5-7 FPS improvement over the previous drivers.

My specs:

2 2080 Ti Founders Edition in SLI.
i9 10980XE
Samsung 860 PRO SSD
32 GB Corsair Dominator Platinum RAM 3400MHz

They are not gone for me. My gut feeling is that these are caused by the Depth Of Field effect.

I wish we could disable it, but it doesn’t look like it is possible.

Have you guys tried to limit FPS in the Nvidia control panel? I have limited RDR2 to 60 fps and seemed like this solved the flickering issue. Don't know exactly was it so or it was placebo effect :)))

The best way to test whether the flickering is gone is to replay the ‘Blessed Are The Meek?’ mission in chapter 2. The initial cutscene flickers like hell.

Can you still see flickering in that cutscene?

I’ll test your method when I get home.

Like many of you I have been on this journey for a while and seeing slow improvements. I was finally able to actually run the game using Vulkan after updating to 441.97 (previous drivers all resulted in a crash on launch when Vulkan was selected). Single card DX12 performance wasn't good enough at all.

I am continuing to experience the intermittent flickering though. Noticeable improvement from yesterday's update via Steam, the flickering seems to "correct" itself quickly rather than continue ad infinitum once triggered, which is nice. Havent tried latest Vulkan beta driver yet but will report back on any positives once I do.

Limiting FPS to 60 did not affect the level of flickering in any way in my experience.

I’ve tested the new Vulkan drivers (441.99).

Compared to the latest official driver (441.87), I’ve noticed a 10% increase in performance.

Unfortunately the flickering glitches are still there.
