I'm giving the game a break. A single 2080Ti can't push decent quality and two crashes too much. No more spending money on this game

toggling sli shouldn't do a thing, the game doesn't care about the state of the SLI setting and will use all cards regardless of it.

That's the weird thing, I know SLI it's not implemented and the drive doesn't have a profile but if SLI is enabled in the Nvidia control panel the game crashes every single time. Guess I'll have to enable/ disable it every time I play other games.

Rockstar really messed up this port.

Thanks

I spoke too soon, if I disable SLI in the control panel the second card is not used 😩. Have tried every single solution in this thread and others, nothing has fixed this issue, with SLI enabled game stops responding when loading on-line or story. Guess no RDR2 for me then.

What exactly have you tried to fix the issue so I don't repeat things you have already tried so save from wasting your time and mine :)  I personally have not ever had issues getting it to load but I do know others that I play with that have had issues.

I have reinstalled the game including deleting the Red Dead Redemption 2 folder in the documents directory, clean installed the 3 last Nvidia driver versions with DDU, installed all the Windows 10 updates. Nothing has worked only disabling SLI in the Nvidia control panel for vulkan.
Dx12 has a weird issue when I try to use it, the game "pauses" for lack of a better word and stops responding the only way to resume it is to hit the windows key on the keyboard but after a few minutes the same thing happens. The game doesn't crash, it just stales and does not respond until I hit the windows key.

Any ideas on what else I could try to get the game to work with SLI?

Thanks in advance for the help

I have been playing for a while now with great framerates using sli. I had to swallow my pride and run at 1440 all settings high instead of 4k. I set sli in the nvidia control panel to render every other frame. And to pr-render 2 frames ahead. gsync on. I have never had the ERR crashes. There is some flashing but only during the morning in the sky and barely on some cut scenes. I have also been playing using the steam link and SLI most of the time I have been playing on my samsung 4k in the living room no issues. I refuse to use TAA because it kills the frame rates. I make sure to keep submitting tickets and leaving messages for rockstar to fix the flicker without taa. My biggest gripe right now is that I have to have steam completely closed and launch from the Rockstart launcher for the game to launch. That means I cannot start the game from my steamlink app. I have to start at my pc then connect to game in progress. If i don't have steam closed and launch from steam it will launch the RS launcher and do nothing but will show as running on steam. Then if you try to click launch on steam it wil try to launch the RS launcher which of course, is already running. Ryzen 2700x 1080 ftw2 SLI. 16gb g skill 3266.

I still can't get SLI to work with vulkan but thanks to @Nowawaka (thanks by the way, I can't PM you as I don't meet the requirements to send PMs) I can play now in DX12 in borderless windows mode. Guess I'll just have to keep waiting for a fix and if they ever properly support mgpu with Vulkan or DX12.

And how about flashing/flickering of the cutscene and some foggy-scene?

5. I set GPUs to "FOUR" within Nvidia Inspector
6. I also unparked my cores on my delidded 8700K

I will give it a try. I know the benchmark crashed 2 times in a row with just the ignorepiplinecache at the same spot were it shows the town. It sucks that im already lvl 20 on all 4 professions now online so unless they come out with something good not sure how much longer I'll be playing it anyways. The moonshiner was a big let down in my opinion, they could of made it a lot more interesting and maybe had it were you could invite player and sell your moonshine or something instead of just making it for looks.

Agreed on the Moonshiners. It was fun for the first few days i.e. getting drunk, dancing, and playing instruments with friends

Yeah for the first few runs it was ok. The grind was painful because all I wanted was the lvl 20 horse since it is the fastest in the game. The grind was about like bounty hunter very slow got old quick because they make u go half way across the map for crap xp lol.

Your welcome :) I take it worked for you?

Yeah, it has worked really well, played for about 4 hours with no crashes which is great.

I tried the beta drivers posted by BaDBoY_uK but still Vulkan and SLI is a no go for me. Guess I'll have to turn some of the eye candy to play at 1440/60.

Again, thanks for the help and happy holidays to you all.

Cool glad it worked for you. I pretty sure there is another Fix for the same issue posted earlier in the thread that will get Full screen working for you as well. I'm not sure exactly what it is because I am forced to use borderless window mode, that is if you care to go through all the pages its been a few patches ago as to when it started happening for people.

Hello everyone, I bought RDR2 on release and still cant find solution for my problem. Same as you I have SLI gaming pc, namely Ryzen 3700x, Asus Dual GTX 1070 in SLI and RAM 32gb 3666mhz. Im trying to play rdr2 in 4K, fps shows good around 40-50fps on medium-ultra settings with Vulkan, but it looks like 20fps. When I switch to DirectX12 fps falls down to around 25-35fps, and it looks like 25-35 fps, because works only 1 GPU, which is okay. And I would like to know, is that problem only with my pc config/graphics settings OR this game optimizations/nvidia drivers just sucks?)

If you have a multimonitor setup make sure that you are playing on your main display (Focus display in Nvidia Control Panel). Also, sometimes double Alt+Enter helps eliminate micro stuttering. In my personal case, playing on the main 2k display is butter-smooth, while trying to play on my second 4k monitor gives the same symptoms you have mentioned above. After switching "focus display" in the Nvidia control panel to my 4k monitor micro stuttering disappeared. Also, you have to sign-out from your windows user and sign-in again to "settle down" new monitor config, at least it was a thing in my case. Scroll above and you will find my graphics settings.

I've just played three solid days now with zero crashes - sinlge player and online

- New Nvidia driver
- BAT file that auto deletes the SGA files (I dont think is needed)
- Arguments above
- NOTHING changed within NVInspector under RDR2 profile - and I mean nothing. Default for things for "Prerendered frames"
- Launcher and game ADMIN mode
- Stock clocks on 2 x 2080Tis
- Tessellation set to LOW
- TAA set to MEDIUM (otherwise looks crap)

I have the same with 2 x 2080Tis. You can't run ULTRA settings.
I believe the settings that hog resources in SLI are
- Tree quality and tessellation
- Water physics
- Lighting

Vulkan, 4k with SLI gtx 1070 & Ryzen 3700x. My frametime is jumping like crazy, 30 fps looks like 15. With DX12 I dont have problem like this. Does anyone know how to fix it?

I have the same with 2 x 2080Tis. You can't run ULTRA settings.
I believe the settings that hog resources in SLI are
- Tree quality and tessellation
- Water physics
- Lighting

Sweet I have yet to try it again. I sort of got sucked into GTA V Online again, thanks again for all the help trying to get this game crash free.

Same to you bud. I think we're close to figuring it out

I would use the optimal setting in Geforce Experience and if that works you can hit the gear icon and move it close to quality to find your sweet spot. The same settings are used in Hardware unboxed review that goes over every setting which is a 2 part video, I suggest you watch them both. I agree with the water physics is a killer with SLi or single it need to be about half or less the other water setting affect quality a lot more and have less fps hit. I also noticed with it cranked all the way up it would cause a lot of stuttering and would make things seem like they are running slower than they are. I would say use Gsync but for me that didn't work with SLi unless HDR was enabled and that's just a crash waiting to happen :)

Unfortunately, the graphics settings in the game have nothing to do with it. Even if I put everything on the low, frametime will still jump and the fps will look half as small as it actually is.
