I have said this before and people called me out saying its just conspiracy. Ill say it again. Nvidia doesnt want anyone using sli since they want to sell new cards every year. They care about money. Rockstar had a year to make the game run good with sli and they didnt. They wont fix sli, with each update they are simply going to make sure that it runs worse to make people use a single card. Nvidia leads the gpu market, therefore gaming companies will kiss their ass and do what they want. Its nice that people are trying to get it fixed but dont expect rockstar to fix it for you. I have an sli set up and the game sadly runs better with one card. With sli even with 98% scaling on both cards, the frametims is horrible and TAA takes so much performance out of it, not to mention the flickering. If people want to start talking stuff then go ahead but in the end what i said its whats happening. Keep defending greedy companies. Thats how EA became what it is.

Just tested the new patch, got rid of the flickering but still no chance to deactivate TAA without just having a white screen..

I have just tested the new patch too and for the first time I have no crashes and really full SLI utilization without flicker and image suspension I'm starting to believe that Rockstar is starting to do his homework ... :)

Sajin, and everyone who gets a black screen on after loading the story mode.
Try setting <transferQueuesEnabled value="false" />
 to <transferQueuesEnabled value="true" />

in your settings file.

That worked! And now SLI/MGPU works perfectly - no flickering and have 98% usage across both GPUs - getting ~ 80fps maxed out (Ultra) in 4K!

are you getting 80fps with TAA activated, or are you a lucky one who sees more than a white screen without?

That is with TAA on 'medium.' Turning TAA "off" made the game over-exposed like crazy (bright white screen) but I haven't tried it yet after the patch.

EDIT: Tested with TAA "Off" and still is over-exposed. Definitely need TAA on Medium or High. Interestingly, turning TAA to "High" is still giving me 75 - 80fps all other options on Ultra which is awesome!

So with the newly released patch it works much better even if there are still some small aberrations, it is currently still not playable for me because I am always thrown out with an error from the game: "ERR_GFX_STATE" ... Rockstar does Progress I still have hope :)

Game is at 1440p Ultra, Treetessellation off and Water at 75%; V-Sync/Gsync on or off makes no difference

Using default 441.20 driver with no custom profile settings, I am finally able to launch the game using vulkan and both cards are at 100% usage. Ran the benchmark 3 times and only had flickering when I disabled Vsync and triple buffering. Using digital foundries "Xbox one X optimized settings" I went from 32fps avg on dx12 to 41fps on Vulkan with 2 1080s at 4k. Not that great of scaling. Dropping the resolution scale to 80% I now avg 55 fps in the benchmark. Its a bit blurry compared to native 4k but I might actually give story mode a try now(I have 1 hour 45 mins of "play time" just trying to get the game to not black screen on vulkan). Considering I couldnt even get the game to enter the benchmark with both cards ill consider this a win for now.

I’m sorry I’m new to nvidia profile inspector. I have downloaded it and set it to default but it still seems to not show in game that it’s using both GPUs. I have two 1080tis am I missing something?

Is anyone else now getting the ERR_GFX_STATE error when using Vulkan/mGPU? I can play the game just fine if I roll back the SLI profile to the profile from the previous drivers, but SLI won't work then. But with the latest drivers/profile the game starts, but as soon as I load in I can see SLI working and after about a minute I get ERR_GFX_STATE, sometimes even with a ton of what appears to be artifacting. I had to check both of my GPUs under stress to make sure they were not dying, but it appears to be an RDR2 issue.

Edit: I saw PGCW has a "fix" for this error, but it doesn't work for me :(

The game is now PERFECT IMO - MGPU works, no flickering, and really fun to play!

Getting ~ 80fps in 4K (all Ultra, TAA "Medium").

EDIT: Just played for a few hours. The game is NOT "perfect." The framerate drops precipitously near water bodies and there is a weird overlay on the water sometimes. Especially when you walk in water with the horse. Also, skybox flickering is still there during rain/lightning. Cut-scenes still have some flickering.

The biggest improvement is no flickering in the snowy areas - that made the game unplayable before but the game is far from perfect.

Download nvidias newest driver. You dont have to do anything it works out of the box. Make sure you are running vulkan api it wont work on DX12.

So with latest Nvidia drivers(441.20) & game patch(1.14), SLI is now functioning properly? without the use of custom profiles?

"ERR_GFX_STATE"

Your gpu is unstable. Lower your clocks.

So, I have the same crash. ERR_GFX_STATE; even at stock clocks on both cards. But the last time I tried to launch the game, I got in, the sky was flickering, and suddenly it began artifacting, then crashed. So I DDUed, reinstalled the driver, rebooted, launched Timespy, and IT was artifacting. I was panicking thinking I lost a GPU, so I rebooted, and ran Timespy Extreme on loop for 30 mins, with no issues. Tried RDR2 again, crashed, tweaked settings, tried a few times, ANOTHER instance of artifacting, rebooted, re-stress tested with no issues. Tested a few demanding games with SLI, no issues. I'm not sure what happened, if RDR2 bugged out the driver or what, but I can not get this game to run stable with SLI. :\ Now if its not crashing its causing driver issues.

I've been monitoring the GPU power usage and clocks when the game loads, and nothing seems out of the ordinary.

Re: Red Dead Redemption 2: SLI Support 2019/11/14 17:51:02 (permalink)
I just cant get the Vulkan to work. One card working on 100%, other one on 40-somethin. 1920x1080p, upscaled x1.500. Everything maxed out. Two GTX 1080Ti's.

If I turn off TAA I get really nice framerates but everything is just either so bright or so dark (under or overexposure). If I enable TAA everything gets back to normal but I'm stuck on 15-17 fps.

When I swapped to DX12 - only one card working (or just disabled SLI while using Vulkan) and with everything maxed out I have 22-45 fps using just one single card (most of the time is around 33-35).

I did a clean resinstall of the latest Nvidia drivers, havn't altered the rdr2 profile through inspector. No matter what I tried before- I just cant stop that TAA from ruining my framerate (or, as I said, disabling it, cause then it's just as much unplayable with those brightness issues).

I have no idea what else I could try- any suggestions?
