92C Under water?  Holy smokies!  What were you doing when you got to that temp?  I am concerned when mine makes it to 70C!  :-)

Prime95.

Under load like 3 hrs of encoding video at 100% CPU with Kraken fans at 65% I peak around 82C.

I just finished the delid. Thermal paste on Kraken was fine so I doubt that was the issue. Everything I've read says I'll benefit from this... I used liquid ultra on die and will use gc extreme when I reseat the Kraken... the same stuff I just used on the hybrid.

I'm looking forward to the results.

Yes I did. Nothing but rave reviews and add me to the list. About to reinstall CPU shortly.

Yep. A nearly 50% decrease with the hybrid kit.

Couldn't be happier. After the step up and then this in addition to my PSU I'll quite happy with EVGA and their products.

66F... I'm in Seattle metro and it's like this pretty much year round. If we get a hot streak in the summer for a few days I run my portable A/C.

Definitely better on the computer. I used to live in southeast GA where it was gawdawful hot 90+ for 6 months straight with horrible humidity.

Don't miss that.

Hope you realize your warranty will become invalid once you delid your CPU.  If you already know this, carry on. lol

Yeah I knew that.  Just looking for cooler temps... I peaked at 92C on my CPU.

Hemi looks nice and I have had a 1070 Hybrid for a while- my first water cooled gpu and it is amazing how cool and quiet it is. I am getting a hybrid 1080 in a day or two.

What  Vcore do you get on your 7700K @ 5 GHz?

I must admit I'm a bit rough on the terms, I set 1.29 with a .035 offset, I guess I would have to say that it's 1.32 but it does peak above per HWinfo after a long BF1 session.
Here are my settings.

Sup duke!

Anyways, you can check that by running Hwinfo64 and stress the processor a bit. That should give us the min/max/current/avg.

Hi Bloodhawk.  I hesitate to post this here because it off the topic but I do have the voltage data mentioned, This is after 4 rounds of BF1.

@TRClark911 I will be watching out for you result of deliding, it's not just about the performance but there is some street cred from deliding a CPU.  I have a 1080Ti SC2 on pre order, I decided that if I want to add a H2O block later that I saved a bit by not getting the FTW3, lol.

That is a pretty decent voltage for 5.0Ghz. You just might be able to bring it down to about 1.3V.

Street cred?  You lost me.

As I said upthread the hybrid kit is performing beautifully... peaks in the low 40's from the mid 80's... a nearly 50% improvement in temps.

The delidding of the 7700k was also a success.

Previous highs were Prime95 blend test @ 92C... Furmark CPU burner around the same... and encoding videos at 100% load would push me into the mid 80's.

After delidding Prime 95 blend test peaked @ 76C, Furmark CPU burner @ 72C... encoding videos at 100% load peaked at 68C.

Basically I've seen a ballpark 16C decrease in temps from the delid.

Nice temp decreases. It just sucks that Intel cheaps out on the TIM on the i7 line.

Wow!  I was thinking of de-lidding my 7700K since at stock I get into the upper 80's encoding video and the radiator just isn't getting as hot as it should.  the damn heat seems trapped in the CPU.  Did multiple applications of Gelid extreme and it's getting me nowhere.

Scared as sh!t to do the delidding process, but this CPU is a disappointment where temps are concerned.

I just installed the hybrid kit on my wife's 1080 and am equally floored.  It's runnint 2125 core without throttling down, and peaks at about the mid 50's with the case all closed up and the fan at a moderate, silent setting.  Unlike the CPU radiator, I can feel the heat in the hybrid cooler's radiator.  It gets pretty hot, quick.

I agree... and I agree.  Didn't want to delid, but glad I did.   Thanks!!

Yeah my first benchmark beat my previous best by 200 points.  I'm still pushing the OC to see how far I can go with the GPU... the cooling is amazing!

As for the delid... there's nothing it to it man.  I went with the Rockit 88 kit... google their website for info.  Scroll up for pics of my CPU in the delidding tool.  It makes the entire process safe and idiot proof.  I used liquid ultra on the die and Gelid extreme on the Kraken.  I also used the Gelid extreme on the hybrid.

If you want to buy mine PM me... It was $44 with shipping for the delid and relid tools and I'll give you a discount.   I don't need it anymore.

If you're worried about delidding print one of these,  Safest & Cheapest way.

What's going on with the 7700k is a total joke.

try replacing it with standard tim before liquid metal, you'll quickly learn it's not just an issue with poor stock thermal materials used by intel.

Slap a pair of noctua nf f12s on the radiator and see if there's any improvement :)

it has nothing to do with fans or the cooling solution, the heat is not escaping the die in the first place.

Smaller package size (14nm) and the issues with the tim and gap to die from the ihs mean less heat get transferred off the die in the first place.....

+1 there silicon lottery does a good job and for 50$ its not a bad deal. i saw pretty similar drops to op mayble slightly better mine was pretty close to a 20c drop i must have had a worse stock tim and rtv job.thats pretty toasty for aida 64 when running all tests what do your temps do if you just run fpu?

IIRC FPU alone @5.0GHz 1.33vcore was starting off in the high 80c range and would easily creep to 94c+ (it would hit TJ Max @100c on 1 of the cores within 10-15mins). I see a temperature decrease when I stress both CPU & FPU, but FPU alone gives it the highest temperature alone (average & peak). When I stress all 4 above, I can walk away without concern for temperature but if I do CPU & FPU or FPU alone, I'm not comfortable leaving it alone so I have sit there and monitor it. If I do 4.8GHz I can lower the voltage (IIRC it was 1.25 - 1.30vcore) enough to where temperature change is significant (8-10c difference).

Ambient room temperature is consistently around 23c-24c. Fan speed is at 60% during normal use and testing. 100% fan speed lowered the temperature 1-2c at most so I know its the TIM under the IHS. I use Noctua NT-H1 and have redone it a couple times to ensure I have just the right amount of TIM on it.

Nice temperature decrease! I've been holding out on delidding even after reading various forums on it but after seeing your results, I'm doing it!

Seems like a very easy process but I really don't feel like messing with it myself so I'll have Silicone Lottery do it, lol.

I was averaging 85-87c (peak was 94c) with Aida64 with the following;
- Stress CPU
- Stress FPU
- Stress cache
- Stress system memory

Thanks!  Having SL do it or doing it yourself... either is fine.  It just looked so easy with the tool so I did it myself.

Anyway, for comparison's sake I just ran the same tests for 10 mins each and got the following:

CPU 59C
FPU 74C
cache 63C
memory 50C

I also ran a GPU stress and peaked at 41C.

Those numbers look promising. Long as I can get at least a 10c difference I'll be pleased. I could always send it out Monday and put in my 6700k from my EVGA rig into my main rig temporarily until it gets back to me, just not sure how my Z270 and apps will be affected (last time I swapped my 7700k into my Z170 Classified K, Windows just did some updating and ran perfectly fine).

Temp drops for both CPU and GPU look immense.
One question that you may know the answer to - do the 6700k's also suffer from poor IHS contact and improve with delidding?

Did you try / think about using LCU on the GPU die?

Those are awesome temps, although it seems scary as hell I have read about a lot of success stories with the deliding process.

What I meant by street cred, I don't know anybody in real life that builds PCs let alone taking an expensive part and getting to work, they are easily impressed.

I'm not sure... someone here surely knows though.

The liquid ultra stuff?  Yeah I used it on the die... and Gelid Extreme on both the Kraken and the hybrid kit.

After watching the video at Rockit 88 I wasn't the least bit scared... the tool made it a safe and easy process and I had no problems at all.  The lid came off, I cleaned everything, added the liquid ultra, super glue dab on the 4 corners of the lid and then clamped it in place for 2 hours... the glue set, done.  Added the Gelid Extreme and reinstalled the CPU.

Ahhh I gotcha... and yeah, the temps are just amazing for both the GPU and CPU.   I bumped CPU from 4.8 to 5 Ghz and improved my benchmarks as well.  Been a good weekend.

Very good weekend,  I just looked at some of those videos, the deliding itself doesn't look too bad but using the LM seems tricky, some guys tape off the area and apply to both sides while some don't.  does the TIM you used fail after a period or will it last for the duration?

I just realized one thing while everyone's freaking about temps, you're all roughly pumping 5.0 Ghz with higher voltage.  Duh! I wouldn't fault the IHS while I know it's hasn't been favored for a number of years but yeah, you guys are pushing these chips fairly well so you can't blame the IHS completely.

Also, I would advise on not running the chips passed 85c.  At that point and beyond it starts to slowly chip away at the chips longevity, let alone killing the warranty once delid.
