question is will deliding improve my gaming performance of the CPU?

No, it will not. Generally unless you are hitting a thermal limit with overclocking, you never need to take off the IHS. I would look at better cooling before trying to take that off and applying my own TIM.

The problem I've seen with the 7700k's is garbage TIM being used by intel. Even on processors that work well initially, it apparently deteriorates or some **** and is trash several weeks later. I picked up a 7700k from silicon lottery and have had pretty amazing temps thus far compared to a lot of my friends.

not sure if I will hit the thermal limit as of yet.
I do have the x62 watercooler just like OP, I won't know if I am hitting thermal limits until I will get the new GPU.

Well I was pretty happy with my new 7700K 5.0Ghz at 1.36V with 84c max stress testing as with stock I was in the mid 70's. I have never tried deliding before but after reading this forum I went and did it tonight. I kept the same settings and after 1 hour with aida64 and Prime I never reached over 72c. I ran Firestrike and Heaven and stayed in the low 60's. Also my idle went from 42c to 32c at 5Ghz. Now I need to see what it will take to reach 5.2Ghz.

Good morning TRClark911,
I have the same exact motherboard as you, and I will be delidding my I7 7700K after seeing your great result. I was wondering if you can post a screenshot of your bios setup for overclocking your processor to 5GHZ.

I also have the same cpu cooler as you, and was wondering if you are plugging the X62 into the motherboard "PUMP_FAN1" or the actual "CPU_FAN1" connector. Also do you leave it in PWM or DC mode, and whether it's on "Smart FAN mode" or manual setting?

Thank you.

Upon further review, it's CPU_FAN1.

Yeah when I built PC I went with tg7... then after the delid I went with liquid ultra on die and gelid gce on kraken.

As said temps are down about 15C.

Yeah I used the Liquid Ultra on die but couldn't wait a day to try it out, lol. I think 1.36V @ 5Ghz staying 50c - 60c while gaming seems safe to me. I mean I don't stress test my computer but for stability tests so I might just keep this as my 24/7 settings, or should I go back to stock and keep the chip in the 40c - 50c range for long term?

Thank you OP. I bought the complete delidding product, including the Liquid Ultra, glue, and Gelid Solutions GC-Extreme Thermal Compound from RockItCool after seeing your post. I can't wait to try it out this weekend. Now I just need for the 1080 TI FE to come in so I can install the EVGA Hybrid on it.

It's all personal preference...  I'm down 15C from where my temps used to be with a 4.8ghz OC.  I'm in the mid 60's to low 70's at 100% load.

Running at 5ghz is stable, but also 8-10C warmer which doesn't put me all that far ahead of where I was originally.

That being said, I benchmark at 5ghz and run 24/7 at 4.8ghz... the long term temps and stability are worth more to me than an extra 200 mhz.

Don't use super glue, use RTV silicone gasket maker. I read on a few sites that super glue can cause damage.
Side note: Is everyone just using the CLU on the die and IHS?

Thank you for your info. I will probably still use the "Loctite Super Glue - Gel Control" since I already bought it , and based on the links below from Rockit Cool it seems fairly straight forward.

**Sorry, for some reason I can't add links**

Yeah... I used the gel as I already said... a dab on the 4 corners and let it set 2 hours.

CLU on die...Gelid GC Extreme on IHS.

I read multiple threads on OC sites saying to do exactly that... not to use CLU on both.

OP, an update on my delid from last night.

Holy shoot!!! It was night and day difference for me after the delidding! Before at 5GHZ and 1.35 vcore, Prime or Aida64 stability test would crashed within a minute. As long as I was web browsing I was OK. I ran Aida64 stability test for an hour at the same CPU settings and no CPU crashed, and the temp was constantly around the 70s range.

I play an MMO that is really CPU intensive and before my temp were all over the places. Before the delidding, my temp was normally hovering around the 75 degree range and sometime it will spike into the mid 90s when playing the game, and that's with the CPU overclocked to 4.9GHZ. Now it's mostly in the 50 to 55 range and that's running it at 5GHZ and the highest spikes I have was at 63 degree with the game running for straight 8 hours. Now I have to buy more ultra liquid so I can do the same for my kids and wife's PCs.

Similar here... I decided to stay at 5ghz and see how it goes and it's been flawless so far...  5ghz with core at 1.22v and temps in the mid 60's to mid 70's under load... stress testing has pushed temps to a peak 81-82C.

I'm thinking I can go further than 5ghz I just haven't tried it yet... I just changed the fan and pump speeds on the Kraken so I can see what if any difference it will make.

Kraken x62 is connected to CPU_FAN per NZXT's instructions: Plug the 2 Radiator fans into the Kraken X62 itself (the fan connection splitter of the pump), then, plug the X62 into the CPU_FAN as a whole unit. NZXT mentions that the Kraken X62 was designed as a "variable speed pump" so plugging the whole Pump and Rad Fans in the CPU_FAN means the speed of both pump and fans will be controlled based on the CPU temps (unless overridden)

I was running the Kraken at 65% on both but just changed mine with the CAM software to run at a fixed 75% fan and 100% pump.  The noise level is still barely noticeable and I want to see what kind of difference it makes in temps.  I read that the 100% on AIO pump is fine given the very small amount of liquid flowing.

The 1080 Ti fan is set at 65%.  It's connected to the card not mobo.

so both the onboard fan and pump go at 65%? does the hybrid card fan has a very low rpm then?

Not sure what you're trying to ask me.  The CAM software allows you to set the rad fans and pump speed anywhere from 25-100% on the Kraken x62 CPU cooler.  I had both set at 65% and just changed the fans to run at 75% and the pump at 100%.  The fan noise isn't noticeable at that speed... at 100% it is.

I guess the hybrid card fan RPM is low?  I use MSI Afterburner for my OC settings and fan speeds... and 65% fan the noise isn't noticeable when compared to 100% when it's really noticeable.

My GPU has peaked at 43C under load at the 65% fan speed... so I've had no reason to change it.  If I go much further than 65% the fan noise will be noticeable.

I would think you'll be fine. It's silent and nothing that bothers me at 50-65% speed. At 100% I can hear it from 10 ft away. Just gotta find the happy medium.

I installed the hybrid kit per the instructions with the rad fan connected to the card and I set the speed with MSI Afterburner.

No crashes since the delid at 5ghz.  I have not yet attempted to go beyond 5ghz but I'm probably gonna see if I can get 5.1ghz soon... LOL

MSI Afterburner

+120% Power limit
90C Temp limit
+165 Core clock
+225 Memory clock
65% fan speed

3Dmark shows my core clock at 2,076mhz on my 23,259 score... which would also explain why I'm good at +165 and have crashed every time at +175.  I think I'm hitting 2100mhz and crashing...

I've been looking over this post and thinking delidding may be the first task I undertake prior to putting the new system together. While I haven't been paying much attention to new CPU's I recall this helping the temps on the 4770k's as well. Thank you for putting this up on the forums!

Tom

I've been looking over this post and thinking delidding may be the first task I undertake prior to putting the new system together. While I haven't been paying much attention to new CPU's I recall this helping the temps on the 4770k's as well. Thank you for putting this up on the forums!

Regards,
Tom

No prob!  Hope the info was helpful!

well I just installed my i7 7700k (didn't delid it yet..)
tried t overclock to 5ghz, on desktop after a couple of minutes the system would restart. anybody know why this would happen?
I did an overclock using my z270 motherboard (without going to bios)

Instability?  When I first tried 5ghz without the delid mine did the same thing... locked up and crashed with high temps.  After the delid with lower temps I'm stable at 5ghz and am planning on seeing if I can get to 5.1...

could it also be the voltage? or perhaps my PSU isn't high enough, but then again I have no GPU ATM and my PSU is 650W, so I doubt it's the voltage.
