Considering the new XBOX release is today, it might be little bit quieter over at EVGA and nVidia sites, that would be a great time for some new stock, but just a wishful thinking...

Only pre-orders start today. The actual console gets released in November

Today would have been nice if they had some in stock around 10 am CDT while the bots were off grabbing xboxes.

I wonder how they prioritize stock here and then sending off to online retailers.  Has the FTW Ultra been available at all yet or just the Gaming?

I wonder if they let a couple shipments pile up so they have a more decent stock to release all at once

Wouldn't doubt it.  Also gives them time to use their experience from the XC3 release to better fortify their servers and bot-deterrence measures.

LOL.  That means we'll have to actually talk to a stranger to place an order.  Seriously wonder what percentage of buyers would do that if online order was taken away?

Re: Guess more cards came in stock? 2020/09/22 11:19:25 (permalink)
After the launch day fiasco of having the Evga card disappear from my cart as I was being redirected back from Paypal, I'm super glad I got on the Adorama pre-order before that ended. It's definitely taken the pressure off of constantly trying to look for a 3080 in stock. I'm ok with waiting however long it will take for the pre-order to fullfill even if it takes longer. What I'm not OK with is rushing from 1 site to another, refreshing constantly only to see the item disappear from my cart during checkout.

I still think doing Pre-orders and charging the full amount during the pre-order is a smarter option. It's a more orderly move than having the masses refresh the page and causing the site to crash. I think it's that which leads to a lot of frustration for people. I think implementing a few things would help against scalpers and bots:

1. Charge the whole amount during pre-order. Everyone only has so much funds to commit to pre-orders before they run out.
2. Capcha during the check out process.
3. Timer to each purchase page before you can move to the next. Add artificial latency so the bots don't have an advantage and can't submit faster than humans.
4. Check to see if the same Credit card number was used in an earlier purchase for a 3080 card. If it was, deny immediately. You can run a compare on the database during the time of the purchase.
5. Check to see if the same shipping address has been used in an earlier purchase for a 3080 card. If it was, deny immediately. You can run a compare on the database during the time of the purchase.
6. Check to see if the IP address of the shopper has been used in an earlier purchase for a 3080 card. If it was, deny immediately. With most people working from home this shouldn't be an issue.

To those of you that manage to snag a card without the help of bots, I truly am happy for you.

I agree, although #6 isn't really useful against someone intelligent enough to run bot scripts. I could change my IP address, proxy or mask it when I was like 10 years old in the 90's; today in 2020 with $5 monthly subscriptions to VPN? Basically useless.

Not sure how people are ordering when the site is constantly down.

Pretty frustrating seeing as both times I've had a card in my cart but once entering payment information site crashes, I get booted, and the items are removed from my cart.

Seriously, how can orders go through like this?

Pretty simple. The bot orders the card and then floods the page until it crashes so they can repeat the process.

I bet there were never any 3080 stock or very very few and evga crashed their own site to make all of you to fork out more money for the overpriced and underwhelming 3090 ;)

Not that I've tried buying one of these cards yet, I would prefer to buy evga, but i was instantly put off by that bizarre red thing on the end of the card... which is strange as I really don't care about leds and windowed cases and having a disco in my room whilst I game!

But something that really confuses me is how previous owners of evga cards, especially those with multiple cards registered on evga, aren't even being given the opportunity to preorder cards? Why is that? Seems rather disrespectful if you ask me... do they have an agenda?

Yes. Everyone's in on a crazy conspiracy theory. EVGA and Nvidia, along with all other 3rd party vendors planned to limit GPU stock supply so that they can scam you into not buying their cards. Ha! They got us good by not taking our money!

Why does everything have to have an agenda and be a whole conspiracy against people nowadays? It makes absolutely no business sense to artificially constrain sales for an electronic component.

You know, just a thought about people adding cards to their cart at the eVGA store (or any store selling the RTX 30 series cards for that matter), isn't there a way where these stores once you have 1 card added to your cart it will stay locked in your cart until the purchase cycle is complete?  Let me give you an example: you go to buy concert tickets or E3 passes.  You select your seats and then you have a time limit to complete your purchase (say 10 minutes).  If you complete the purchase in that 10 minute limit you have the card.  Places like Ticketmaster do this.  The ESA for E3 does this.  What reason can't these retailers do that?  Out!

EVGA didn't used to do that, but got a lot of grief during the RTX 20xx release for this very same reason. So, EVGA said that they were modifying their store to include a cart reserve period for some X period of time. I don't know what happened to it. Either it's not working or EVGA changed its mind.
