0/7 tries for me these past few days. can we just get an email 20 min in advance (by we i mean all of us who have purchase history and an account ) so we can get the product into the hands of us legit customers. or hell even some form of 2 factor authentication where you receive an email with a code to complete a purchase. at least that would delay the botters by a bit while they scramble to make a more sophisticated bot.

RudestBuddhist The site was down the entire time for me and I was refreshing it constantly. Sigh..
And that's what causes the site to crash. Tens of Thousands of people hitting F5 every few seconds and sending data requests to the server is why it can't respond to anyone in time and send people the information to render the page. Refreshing every few seconds makes the problem worse. Because everytime you hit F5, the server has to process those requests. Imagine being in a room with 5 people and they all roughly start asking you a question at the same time. You wont be able to respond to all of them, but you will hear some parts of some of their questions of them and you might be able to answer two or three. Now imagine those same 5 people each asking you 10 questions back to back to back. You'll be overwhelmed and you wont be able to answer any questions. When you mash the F5 key over and over... that's what you're doing. You're helping causing the problem which crashes the site.

You bring up a good point. I used to remember back in the day where if you refreshed a page too fast too many times, it timed you out and blocked the IP for a short period. What's the disadvantage of using that tactic against the bots? You can't infinitely create new IPs on the fly (can you?) to try to get in else you're basically DDOS attacking the server, which I would imagine can be used legally against the script writers.

This launch is sus AF. Definitely entertaining though... I gunna sit back and watch. One question? Why when it is obvious the bots and the bot users "bouncealerts ect" are twitter aware; would anyone broadcast a precise launch time on twitter, just after observing the outcome of that strategy days prior?

That preferential treatment you're looking for isn't looking good. What if it's someone who has never bought anything from eVGA but wants one now? lol.

The most effective bots are doing API calls directly to the ecommerce engines that drive the store fronts. Affective use of API calls in some cases allows bots for example to utilize alternate ports and protocols real humans with web browsers do not typically leverage...

Someone else mentioned that the scripts are probably on 24/7 checking for stock, so if there was 0 announcement, bots would have gotten a good chunk, if not all, the cards before any of us realized it was in stock (and subsequently cancel the order per EVGA, but not restocking it back on the site immediately). The announcement gave users some chance of getting one since we would all hit the site together.

fair point , this launch has been kinda ****ty for a good chunk of us. at least a few people i know managed to get a card and frankly anyone who has gotten one legitimately not by use of bots i'm super happy for. At least the longer it takes me to get one , the better the chances of waterblocks being out (or hell even the hydrocopper) so i can just smash the new card in my loop as soon as i get it lol.

I would speculate that the scripts you may have seen screen shots of are only a part of the "bot" narrative. There are at least 2 types of bots at play. Automation bots (workflow) and botnet (DDOS) traffic control. Edited to point out while I don’t think my posts are controversial they appear to have to be approved by a mod most of the time. Guys just relax. Its like trying to buy a new console on launch day. Wait it out a few weeks, wait for the 3090 and 3070 to come out. Wait for AMD to release their stuff. The market should normalize by mid to late October Also, I appreciate the fact that EVGA is reviewing and approving orders manually. Thank you EVGA

Here is the thing guys let the bots buy them, let the eBayers pay 1500 for them once the stock increases it will plateau and we can get are cards, maybe by then there will be the 20gb or even a TI if the rumors aren't true. For all those people that need a card go pick up a 2070 super there dirt cheap now and decent enough to hold off. I got an EVGA 2070 super X something for 275 going to wait my turn and sell it for about the same I bought it for don't see them going that much cheaper.

$42 for shipping. Is not that a little on higher side or are these EVGA's standard rates? Considering Newegg charges $6 for shipping.

part of me wonders if they released a small number of cards just to do a stress test on the store site and to see what kind of traffic it was getting leading up to the FTW3 cards and the 3090 cards release later this week. and I base this thought on the fact that it was stated on twitter they are going to work on server updates and upgrades as a result of today.

Can confirm I did pay for Next Day air. Part of the reason why I went straight for the $699 card just to shave off a few bucks. Just hope I can Step-Up later down the line to a FTW3 or maybe even a 3090 if the benchmarks are good. :]

Expensive way to get an FTW3 with shipping and all. I've not heard of the 3090 being in the step up program and it currently is not.

I just wish I could wait in line to get one. Similar to a pre-order of expected stock. Like how Valve handled the Index. I could sign up to get one, and you get priority when they come in stock. And I dont have to press F5 for anything.

Some people that use Bots for doing reselling also use proxies, so if they discover that they get IP blocked they can hop to another IP. There are places that specifically sell Proxy accounts that give you access to thousands of IPs with low volume traffic. Not something you'd want to use for doing normal day to day browsing, but simple for simple web requests they are great.

This is why I'm fine waiting on a backorder list. It may take a month but I'm not sitting around while the site crashes with stuff in my cart over and over. Initial launch day was enough of that for me.

Considering the new XBOX release is today, it might be little bit quieter over at EVGA and nVidia sites, that would be a great time for some new stock, but just a wishful thinking...
