I heard that Newegg pulled the ridiculous lottery after getting buried with negative feedback. This is by no means the first time that the company has pulled a dumb move that made a lot of people mad. That's what you get when competition is lacking. I wish there were more vendors for computer related items. I was bummed when Porta Tech abruptly shut down. The CEO passed away and didn't have a #2. I wish a Micro Center would open somewhere in NorCal. Ohio has three of them and CA only has one. WTH?

Well the sitrep on my front here sucks bad, no clear site of any EVGA queue cards for me in the near future. I am also on local wait lists but the retailers have seen nothing from EVGA in 2 months. Now that tariff's have negatively affected prices I am looking at $1299 CAD for a 3897-KR which is around $1450 after tax plus shipping if I could buy online. The one local place here will honor the pre-order price but as mentioned nothing from EVGA has arrived at the local Memory Express for a couple months. Found a local person selling an MSI Gaming X Trio sealed with receipt today which is now worth $1566 CAD after taxes plus shipping and they would sell it to me for $1650 which is not as bad as scalper prices (There are two ASUS TUF's listed here online for $1700 and $1750) I am so on the fence and almost ready to jump ship, have only owned EVGA cards since 2007 and this situation is just pretty sad. I install EK water blocks on all my cards too so another cost on top, closest thing I have in my notifies that has any glint of hope is the 3888-KR but I think I am 10 minutes or more away according to the updates which could take months due to recent lack of movement on them. The wait is killing me, love the 1080ti FE that I got on release day but skipped last gen for this and upgrade is long overdue. Frankly the wait and mostly the scalpers are driving me nuts and I've never not been able to pre-order or get a card shortly after release date which is what all of us fellow enthusiasts are experiencing these days! I was in Memory Express buying some web cam's for a work training setup today and they had at least 5 6800 XT's on the shelf for purchase, felt so dirty even looking at them but my brain said "No Ray Tracing, no DLSS no deal!" and snapped me out of it. I could possibly grab the MSI card tomorrow, curious what would you do?

enewt Ok, Newegg is doubling down on bundles...but in a "we want folks to think we are consumer-first like EVGA, but really aren't" way...we can now enter a lottery system (rather than F5ing) for a chance to buy one of their ridiculous bundles. Joy! Here is one of the articles from earlier today: https://www.pcmag.com/news/newegg-responds-to-gpu-cpu-shortages-with-controversial-lottery-system I am not recommending that folks patronize newegg, but since this is a new development in the Ridiculous Tech Launch of 2020-2021 Debacle...I wanted you to share in my disbelief. Enjoy.
I read some of the comments on reddit.. are they really bundling AMD processors with intel motherboards?

Yeah, it's pretty much having to wait this long and no update information and not a peek in notifications, yet we're starting to see more and more builds showing up on PC forums with EVGA 3000 series. I know they have GPU's coming in under the radar and selling it to their "VIPs"

PSU talk continued - I have a 9700K and I'm planning on getting a 3080, but have a platinum EVGA 650W. All the calculator sites say that it should be fine, but people here say that it's better to get a 750-850W at least. I don't plan on too much OC on CPU and I'm not going to OC the GPU. Also, repeating the question - I used the EU site to request a notification on three of the GPUs I'm interested in. I saw in the OP post that US store has an 8hr window for a purchase when you get a notification, but EU doesn't - is it still true?

If Nvidia had pulled the 3080 out of the oven, and announced that it was MSRP $1500 would you be clawing your eyes out for a chance to find one in stock? I was playing every game I own on my 1070 before Nvidia announced 30 series. I suppose I can keep playing on my 1070 until 2022, and jump in on 40 series. I feel particularly disinclined to pay scalp prices, or participate in the TT pricing (Trump Tariff). It's only because I can't have one that I feel compelled to obsess over product listings on retail websites and subscribe to stock alert tools, and mash f5 on newegg and amazon and zotac sites, hoping to get lucky. It's not a healthy position from which to make a purchasing decision. I am clearly reacting emotionally, not rationally.

Yea, I'm just trying to put together a nice rig with a 3898 hybrid for my son to use while I'm deployed. Time is running out and it's legitimately making me sad.

For the past 2 decades I have been involved in a service industry which is highly seasonal. In-between stints as an employee I was an owner for 10 years, but IMO it's a much better life when someone else signs the paychecks. Due to social psychology (see below) and other "convenience" factors, customers want our service 50x more in the busy season (June-Sept) than they do in the slowest months (January-February). This is completely illogical but nonetheless I have to plan for it, and have developed techniques for manipulating customer perceptions of availability to help level things off. The current crazy demand for graphics cards reminds me somewhat of the feeding frenzy we get every summer. If customers think that our service is hard to get, they DEMAND more of it, and call nonstop screaming at us to hire more employees. When they think that it's easy to get, they SHUN it, and employees struggle to get hours. But yeah, we don't have to compete with crypto miners. en.wikipedia. org/wiki/Scarcity_ (social_psychology) " Simply put, humans place a higher value on an object that is scarce, and a lower value on those that are in abundance. For example diamonds are more valuable than rocks because diamonds are not as abundant. The scarcity heuristic is a mental shortcut that places a value on an item based on how easily it might be lost, especially to competitors. The scarcity heuristic stems from the idea that the more difficult it is to acquire an item the more value that item has (my note: cryptocurrency). In many situations we use an item’s availability, its perceived abundance, to quickly estimate quality and/or utility. This can lead to systemic errors or cognitive bias. There are two social psychology principles that work with scarcity that increase its powerful force. One is social proof. This is a contributing factor to the effectiveness of scarcity, because if a product is sold out, or inventory is extremely low, humans interpret that to mean the product must be good since everyone else appears to be buying it. The second contributing principle to scarcity is commitment and consistency. If someone has already committed themselves to something, then find out they cannot have it, it makes the person want the item more.... This idea is deeply embedded in the intensely popular “Black Friday” shopping extravaganza that U.S. consumers participate in every year on the day after Thanksgiving. More than getting a bargain on a hot gift idea, shoppers thrive on the competition itself, in obtaining the scarce product." The best time to upgrade could be after the 40xx cards are announced, but before production switches over, because then few will want the "old" 30xx cards. It wasn't that long ago that the 20xx "KO" cards came out at a $100 discount. We can also hope that crypto crashes and miners flood the market with used mining cards. To hedge my bets, I have started buying tiny amounts of Bitcoin, because every time I invest into something it crashes (lol). Here's hope!

no way dude, Nvidia would never ever use artificial scarcity to gin up demand, or that's what I've been told

prenga So... my empty PCI slot is psychological issue? Thanks, I will keep it empty until... there is GPU I can buy? 😀
Look at the big picture. Crypto is/was skyrocketing because everyone is afraid of losing out, causing miners to buy up cards. Demand for cards exceeds supply, which brings in the scalpers with their bots. And so on. Your empty pci-e slot is a byproduct of that. Good luck with your search! Stockdrops Discord helped me find one.

Have to say, whilst I appreciate EVGA, the support they give, I'm more than a little confused/annoyed, that there are A LOT of people waiting for their initial email to purchase, yet EVGA is allowing step-ups? Is this from 20xx series, or people who bought 1 flavour of 30xx but want another? If it's the former, fair enough. If it's the latter, then that is shocking and unacceptable imo.

I assume it would have to be from people who bought a Turing, right? I think the only Ti we have right now is the 3060 Ti but that was released BEFORE the 3060, so I don't think that counts (at least not right now). And I don't think the step-up program would cover moving from a 3070 to a 3080 or something, but I'm not completely certain on that. My understanding is to qualify, something has to be released within three months of your purchase and doesn't count retroactively (i.e. you can't buy a 2080 NOW and then immediately request a 3080 since it's already been released). But again, I don't have a ton of experience with the program so hopefully someone with more knowledge of it can clarify.

Signed up for the queue for a 3080 FTW3 Ultra back in October, and then in December, signed up for the Hybrid version as well for the hell of it, since I hadn't been able to get a normal one yet. Now I'm still months away from getting the Ultra, but probably going to get my notify for a Hybrid any day now. I don't actually have the spare fan slots for the Hybrid...

If I get the notify for the 3888 hybrid, I'll buy it without knowing it will fit in my case. I *think* I can remove the factory fans and put my Corsair QL120 fans on it pushing air through the rad and out the top of the PC. If it won't fit, I'll buy a different case even though I love my Corsair 4000D.

3898 hybrid for me but same general situation. The 3898 is realistically the only one I have any chance of possibly getting in the "near" future. My entire thought process on it is "If my queue spot dings then I'll buy it immediately and figure out the rest later."
