That's a wee bit dramatic and exaggerated imho....

@Jacob,

When will the Dark be available on the EVGA web site?

Original schedule was early to mid July, but it is looking closer to Mid July right now.

And it's the 15th July now. I called it a while back and said the EVGA X79 Dark would release in September along with the new Ivy-Bridge E chips. So you guys are proving me right

Two questions: Is this board going to actually be capable of PCI-E 3.0 unlike the other x79's? Is it going to have all 40 lanes for PCI-E unlike your other x79's?

Most x79 boards are capable of PCIe 3. If you are asking out of the box with no hack then no. No you have 32 lanes according another post by Jacob and by the spec sheet which shows only 32 lanes available. 1x16/2x16/3x8/4x8 even though with 3 it still should run x16/x8/x8. Not sure why you lose 8 PCIe lanes just because you are in 3 way sli but it is the way evga has it laid out.

Guys seriously,

It doesn't matter how many 16x lanes you have. Unless you are running x16x16 2way SLI

if your running tri or quad SLI your going to have to run a 8x slot.

Once you have a card in a 8x slot your entire SLI array is all going to be running at 8x speed.

Just like RAM. if you have 4 dimms in and one is 1600 and the other 3 dimms run at 2400. your going to be running at 1600 the slowest speed of the lot. Same goes for SLI arrays.

Just out of interest.. if you had 2 cards in SLI and then a 3rd card as dedicated physx, will that change things? Meaning, will the 2 cards in SLI still run at x16 if the 3rd physx card is in a x8 slot?

No,

I used to run a 690 in 2way sli x16 and I ran a 680 as a dedicated physX card.  Because the 680 was not in the SLI array and ran on its own it did not affect the SLI array.

You'd have thought, with it being this late in the game where x79 is coming to the end of its life, EVGA would have at least stuck 2 plx chips on this board so ppl can at least run all their cards at 16x. Coz otherwise, this mobo really doesn't have anything special to offer over other brands.

Just called, looks like cross ship is a no go. Since it's technically considered a stepup.

Jacob, will you guys at least match the shipping method used? If I ship 1 day, will you?

Kinda frustrated on this, I work on this system and literally can not afford downtime.

Edit: Next day air is $117. Are you kidding me?

Buy a RIVF from amazon and just return it. That is what I would do, since it will probably be 2 weeks or so before you get the new mobo.

Or buy a EVGA X79 FTW and use that. When you're ready to return it open a claim under "Defective". This way you won't get charged a fee and technically you aren't lying as ALL of the X79 series are defective (pre dark, but that remains to be seen)

How about PCI-E 3.0? I suppose it still fails miserably. What was the point of the x79 black again? It sounds like you practically fixed nothing at all except the lack of all 40 PCI-E lanes. PCI-e 3.0. had better be fully supported on the x79 dark or" that dog don't hunt" and you will lose a lot more business.

Ok, and so does PCI-E 3.0 work now? I gotta tell u, this classified is a straight-up hunk of junk when I try to run Pci-3.0. So, what about 3.0.?

Yes, PCI-E compatibility is dramatically improved. It has to do with optimizing the layout, and also the lack of bridge chips helps with this too.

What about XMP and RAM clocks Jacob? It was quite a pain to get 2400MHz running.

Also, when changing the Bclk frequency for OC'ing... (100MHz to 125MHz for example) is it like this?

Set to 125MHz from 100MHz, F4 to save and exit
Next boot is ALWAYS an FC post code
Power off, then back on and it works

That's how it is for me when changing blck on an X79 Classified.

...47biosses is imo 30 to much, and in my case the usb firm was after the update still rubish or even worse....it's not competative at all,the other brands are way ahead....

Not meaning to be a personal attack on your comment, but I know for sure that if EVGA didn't do updates as often as they do, there would be plenty of complaints saying they didn't care about their customers because they take so long to update the BIOS.. in fact that has happened with this very series I believe. Personally I would rather have regular and relatively frequent updates than a rare update once in a blue moon. On the occasion over the last 5 years or so when NVidia have gone for a long period between WHQL updates, there has been huge criticism... they can't please everybody I guess, but can't say I've heard many people criticize EVGA for updating BIOS too often... only the opposite.
Good luck with your board anyway.

I agree with Nereus.

Why bring it out now when EVGA can tie it in with IB-E release.  Wouldn't surprise me if their marketing department  is working on it.

Because what good does it do them? EVGA already has ES samples of IB-E and i'm sure they already tested and made sure it works. No one else is bringing out a new x79 mobo because it doesn't do any good.

Plus far better imho to get it out there in advance so it can be tested and found to be as good as we all hope.. that way there's no doubts lingering when the new chips come out.
