I am going to continue the RMA because I REALLY want a stable motherboard, but I feel cheated.

Return the X58 for a refund??
Yes, I purchased it through Amazon, they care about their customers and offer things like that...
EDIT: Oh sorry I see my error... I meant to say "X79 FTW"
I wish I still had my old X58 :( not a single issue with that board.
Lol. I thought maybe that's what you meant...

I was just curious. Thought maybe with the minimal price difference, you'd opt for the "having 2 mobo" option.

Hopefully they will allow a cross shipment option as mentioned on their site: http://www.evga.com/howtorma/

xghoulx dustingg one of the reason I Just cancelled my setup. I don't know how I overlooked this, I guess I assumed it was like 99% of the other companies I've ever dealt with doing an RMA... I've never heard of this "send it to us first" process, especially when it means your ENTIRE system will be down for XX amount of days (and this is not a "gaming" system). So now it seems the more reasonable option is to cancel everything (stepup payment) return the FTW for a refund and wait to buy the Dark... :/ (1) Nobody else has a step-up program. (2) Every other company requires you to send the old board in if you are doing an RMA, unless, like EVGA offers when you register, you pay for the advanced RMA cross-shipping option. (3) Please advise which company allowed you to do an RMA and they sent you a replacement product without you sending them the non-functioning product first so they can verify it is actually broken and then possibly repair it rather than send a new board.

Hey EVGA, for these guys cancelling their stepups, can I please buy one of those Darks now (for full retail), since they were allocated already and are therefore now 'excess stock'?

This is simply a business office and unfortunately we would need to have you ship in the product, once received, we can issue the Dark. With our step-ups we unfortunately do not offer cross-shipment services." Regards, Jayson C RMA Management So I'm Opting-Out of my Step-Up and asked for a refund...

This is nothing new in the way EVGA does things as far as the step up program. I used to live an hour away from EVGA and still couldn't just show up and get product. Their not doing anything out of the ordinary here.

Their not doing anything out of the ordinary here. I just wasn't aware cross-shipment wouldn't even be considered an option being they do offer that on other products etc. especially with a component that takes your entire system down... I really don't want to see my 3k system sitting in pieces on my kitchen table for 3-5+ days waiting for them to send me a replacement board. My fault for thinking they would allow something this logical to registered long term loyal customers...

Kolich Hello guys! i have a question: whats differents beetween X79 classified and X79 dark instead 8 slots of DIMM A LOT more stable motherboard, with more features in a brand new BIOS. The Dark exists only because the first boards were so bad no one wants to buy them anymore. Just go back through the three or four threads to read about all the "hate" to the Classified and FTW.

No, block will not be compatible, if your board works and you have no issues, stay with it. Most people have so many problems with the board though they would rather trash it.

It's not the same. The locations are similar but if you look more closely, there is much less space between the CPU and the first PCI-E. The old waterblock will not likely fit. As an example. Look at the x58 FTW3, then look at the X58 SLI3. Two very similar boards by layout however, the EK offerings required different different blocks and the layout of those two boards was more similar than the boards you are talking about. It's pretty rare for a motherboard block to be exchangeable between products even from the same vendor. I'm actually really curious to see where the input/output will be placed on a motherboard block for this board. There isn't much room anywhere. My guess in the layout I created for cooling this board was between PCI1 and PCI2, below the memory. Seems like that is the area with this most room.
