I cant wait for the Dark so I can get that proper spacing and I can put the rest of the other titan shroud back on. I think im going to paint both titan shrouds hot red.

Re:EVGA X79 Dark Friday, July 05, 2013 2:39 PM (permalink)
Same issue here,my Classified had issues before. At first my HD6950 didn't work on it but did on several other boards,so i bought a brand new HD6970ghz which worked, afterwards it was a failliure of the board....so that was 450euro extra,to compensate a issue on the board. After a half year working trip abroad,i started using it again....new biosses and every trick out off the book trying to get it stable....NOT. It even got worse,D6 error on my Radeon again...no issues when i try the card on other boards,so it went to EVGA on RMA.The board isn't sold anywhere anymore, not on Newegg or Alternate etc.etc......But hey, something curious happened when i checked Newegg about "EVGA X79", the board i got was a was a 151-SE-E779-KR....on Newegg was this one discontinued, but there was another one called 151-SE-E779-K3...probably a revision. So i checked the replacement RMA ticket(it on his way back,a new one)....and it said"151-SE-E779-KR" where i lost so much confidence in despite to all those buggy things discussed here and on several other forums. So i hope they made a mistake shipping it back and instead of 151-SE-E779-KR it will be 150-SE-E779-KR which is the productcode of the Black........

Anyone have a general idea of how long it takes chipset water blocks to be released after a motherboard is?

This depends on whether the manufacturer of the board sends a board to the manufacturers of the waterblocks. lately not a lot of companies are doing this anymore since the trend over the past year or so is to just make boards that don't need waterblocks for the chipset in any situation(To put it simply). So considering the waterblock availability of the past EVGA boards, it's highly unlikely you will ever see them.

My experience with most EVGA products is they are available for purchase on newegg the same day they are available for purchase on the EVGA web store. Both companies are based in California and not far from each other FWIW.

Can't really say I am very thrilled to have to pony up an additional $250 dollars + shipping + time to get my x79 SLI upgraded to a Dark just so that I can try reselling the thing because I have already had to buy a different motherboard.

Original Product failed
Current versions of X79 bioses have newly introduced bugs
Huge Loss of time
Had to invest in alternatives not being able to resell board
Upgrade is a huge additional cost
New board could still be a flop

Color me impressed...

If your motherboard has a valid defect please apply for an RMA

That sounds good in theory yes RJ, but none of the boards work. I'm certain you know there are guys who have done 4+ RMA's and have the exact same problems.

Really the here is EVGA needs to just send Dark boards back for RMAs, and not bother with an upgrade program.

Exactly!!!! that would be the decent thing to do if you sold a broken product to the world. I feel pretty lucky(and this is pathetic) That the only issues I have with my MB now (after a DOA board when first purchased) is the intermittent USB 3.0 failure. That and the non existent SAS controller in the device manger. Yes bios 47 (lol really that many bios revisions, at least they tried to fix it right?) removed the fake SAS controller reporting but in turn introduced another bug that is far far worse to deal with. the floating point issue with processor cores idling at or above 15%. So back to Bios 45

Any way, If I sold people something I knew was broken because of my design, there is no way in hell I could live with that fact and live with my self knowing I took their money and sold them some BS broken product. That is know as being a crook.

..snip..

Exactly. Why would I want to sink additional shipping costs to get back a board with the same problems.  Then I would have lost another $30 dollars on something that I do not even use because I had to buy a competing product that doesn't actually have problems already. Without upgrading to a Dark the only way I could hope to recuperate some or all the costs of the board would be to lie and resell it. I am sorry I have morals and will not induce the same nightmare on another person.

The only strategy to get any sort of neutral result would be to invest $250 more into my previous purchase by upgrading to a Dark and hoping that I can resell it for close to retail. Still going to lose shipping but it doesn't even look like I will be able to use the upgrade problem.

1. If the board is not in working condition or has physical damage, the upgrade will be rejected or additional fees may apply

Anyone who has had to pay shipping for more a RMA already, that chooses to upgrade will be in fact probably paying fairly close to retail in total.  Like many other people, me included, spending money on upgrading to the dark will only be to try resell the Dark or our current competing motherboard that works just to come out even. Maybe you might save taxes. Not to mention that if you take that $250 you can go buy a half decent ASUS board brand new.

This is getting real confusing having 2 threads with the exact same title discussing the same subject (one sticky, one not). Might be a good idea to close this relatively new one...

*edit* I mean confusing reading email notifications, not knowing which comment is from which thread..

And Gigabyte,Asus and MSI give you the oportunity to upgrade the option roms...update the Intel ME(management engine )firmware...they even developped a special flashtool for their high-end boards.....47biosses is imo 30 to much, and in my case the usb firm was after the update still rubish or even worse....it's not competative at all,the other brands are way ahead.....i want a board that is my 400euro's worth.....

Not meaning to be a personal attack on your comment, but I know for sure that if EVGA didn't do updates as often as they do, there would be plenty of complaints saying they didn't care about their customers because they take so long to update the BIOS.. in fact that has happened with this very series I believe. Personally I would rather have regular and relatively frequent updates than a rare update once in a blue moon. On the occasion over the last 5 years or so when NVidia have gone for a long period between WHQL updates, there has been huge criticism... they can't please everybody I guess, but can't say I've heard many people criticize EVGA for updating BIOS too often... only the opposite.
Good luck with your board anyway.

Asking owners of defective boards to pay even more money to get a board that might not be any better than the defective one is just adding insult to injury.  I paid a lot of money to EVGA and got first one and then a second defective board through an RMA.  The first board didn't work from the time I got it and the second one was exactly the same.  Right now..., it's not being used and is essentially worthless.  I've emailed customer service only to be told that paying the extra money is their only solution.  I'm afraid the EVGA we've known for the past few years is gone for good!

I'm pretty discouraged at this point!  EVGA has admitted that there are problems with these boards, but they are definitely not standing behind them and are definitely not doing the right thing by their customers..., many of whom will soon be ex-customers.

...47biosses is imo 30 to much, and in my case the usb firm was after the update still rubish or even worse....it's not competative at all,the other brands are way ahead....

I agree with Nersus.
Actually if there is a complaint to be levelled here it is that evga "does not" have enough bios version by a lot. Don't get caught up in the bios number itself. From what I can tell there have been very few bios updates for evga x79.

Unlike the rive which has so many bios's to choose from it can be a little daunting for someone new to the platform. From where I sit I will take all the bios updates you can throw at me.

Two questions: Is this board going to actually be capable of PCI-E 3.0 unlike the other x79's? Is it going to have all 40 lanes for PCI-E unlike your other x79's?

While many of us were looking forward to the promises of the Dark...
There can be only one reason for this delay, and its the same ongoing problem.

"The Answer" has turned out to be prophetic....
