Ok..., bottom line. I've got a $400 EVGA Classified MB sitting in a box because depending on the phase of the moon it decides on a day to day basis, (sometimes hour to hour), which USB ports will work and more often than not, the USB 3.0 ones don't. Plastered all over the box are the words PCIE 3.0, only it isn't really. And..., occasionally it would just refuse to boot up unless I had dried chicken bones tied to the case in just the right configuration. Now I'm being asked to decide whether or not to spend another $150 for a board that MIGHT work..., but it might not do so any better than the one I have to send back. No one has one yet, so I cannot even go by the experience of others. The ASUS RIVE that I have now seems to work quite well but from what I read in this and other threads about the EVGA X79 boards even the new CPU's coming in the next few months to a year, probably will have the same limitations as the current ones. I'm trying to keep an open mind since I've done quite well with EVGA equipment up until this board. Can someone give me a convincing argument and a guarantee that this new board..., essentially now a $550 motherboard..., will do any better than the ASUS RIVE? And..., if it doesn't, will I be able to get a refund of the effective price of $550? To be honest, at this point, unless I can get such a guarantee, I'd rather get a refund of the $400, (which doesn't cover the time and expense of rebuilding my computer twice and sending back one MB for a replacement), that I originally paid for the Classified. Right now, I've effectively got $800 tied up in one functioning X79 MB and I'm being asked to increase that to $950 without knowing whether or not the new Dark will actually work. I just bought $1400 worth of EVGA GTX 780's so I haven't given up on them completely, but I'm very worried about getting burned again!

It's hard to justify another 150 bucks to get a working board after spending 500 + already. The guy who is praising EVGA for this board is laughable. We haven't seen any reviews yet. Hope for the best, expect the worst. "What is past is prologue".

First paragraph I'm kind of but not really in the same boat. I held off on getting a LGA 2011 MoBo since Ivy E isn't out. Quite skeptical also since its using the same X79 chipset but I'm hopping you won't have to do the "nvidia hack" to get PCIe 3.0 working with these chips since the mainstream version ushered in native 3.0 support (yes i get the Sandy E did also but it wasn't certified in time?). I get that a world class bencher, used the X79 to get world records in 3DMarks programs but has he used them day to day for just normal use? I'm sure a lot of you with crapped out EVGA X79 boards are curouse but no one wants to be the 1st person to drop the cash for it since you've all been burned so far. And TBH with anyone with already a working X79 board I really wouldn't buy this one, unless you really have burning in your pocket to spend 150~399.99 for this thing since you just want something different to look at in your case. Because I mean from review for review website and owners who's had them since launch alone consider the Asus RIVE and RIVF the X79 gold standards and no reason to even replace them if you have one.

12 Layer PCB??? motherboard really promise interesting time playing with 4960X and X79 Dark. 4.0GHz is Turbo I can bet someone will push 5.0GHz under some good water cooling. Toys for hard core enthusiasts. No hardware without EVGA, I only look what Serbia offer and when I saw this that is like paradise from eyes. Like weekend after week of hard work. Bored, serial, without soul, without style... This, as god hands design hardware.

Jacob, When will we see a full video of all the functionally of the new BIOS? I am beginning phase of building a new system and I am very interested in the X79 DARK. I would really like to see this MOBO setup and benchmarked againist it competitors namely ASUS. I may have to wait until the board is readily availble for benchmarking. Thanks, Joe

Benchmarks and reviews are mostly made to favored you know who... Important is to user confirm board as nice for OC and stable... The rest is in users hand, luck and samples of CPU and IMC inside. Example if good number of people excited tell here how board is fantastic for OC and no problems with BIOS, SSD, memory that is sometimes more important than small difference in numbers in reviews. Example look previous motherboard models, choose one model from ASUS or GIGABYTE and look difference on 2-3 reviews, compare numbers and models you will see lot of different experience with different devices. Best is when users confirm board as excellent and stable. Because they try on different hardware, different settings. On reviews not always but sometimes win who have more money for marketing.

At this point if it's not an actual release date then it isn't an update at all. When it comes to the release of the product. It's been so long now, I don't see it as being pushed back. I see it as I'm being lied to because they don't even know when it will be ready.

EVGA Mods, will it be possible if owners of the X79 SLI/FTW/CLAS to get a Bios upgrade to one that looks and works like the Dark? What I mean is, pretty much just a GUI upgrade, working mouse, etc, but still only with the options available for our boards.

MontNoir I suspect no better audio chip? Just the realtek crap? I have no such problem any more... I mean 80-90$ Sound Blaster Z, fantastic card, drivers stable, sound clear, new generation, gold plated connectors, excellent for headphones and speakers... I'm more than satisfied. For next 5 year you don't need to think what have my motherboard. Azalia Disable, Supreme Disable... It's OK when motherboard have good card as Z87 Classified. But with Sound Blaster you don't need to think what model have Realtek. ASUS decide to make cheaper gamers mobo with better sound card(probably because Extreme version use overclockers for OC more), EVGA decide better and more expensive motherboard to have good sound card because people need place for multi GPU and everything else... What is better option depend from people... but one good sound card is welcomed.
