As my brand new x79 FTW is going to return for refund tomorrow.  This thing refuses to even run 4 x 680's at x8, the fourth is always x4.  And forget about PCIe 3.0  USB "overload" with shipping bios popping errors everywhere.   No hard release date on the dark, no commitment from EVGA to step up customers to this new board -- IMHO, it should be a free replacement.  I should have read reviews and forums instead of going on my prior experiences with EVGA's flagship "Classified" boards and GPUs (x58 one I have for example) having every feature I could want and being the ultimate "you get what you pay for".  2 days into my x79 Classified ownership, I must say this product, including arriving with no cap on the socket even though sealed and from a reseller, seems to be the anti-thesis of "you get what you pay for".

As for 120hz IPS 1440 panels, there are people on the waitlist over at 120hz .net

They are working on a program for those that have boards that they want to replace. So you could get the refund or wait for the new board. I would do the refund and buy the new aboard if you do not go Asus by then. EVGA is taking it's sweet time because I think they have been getting so much flack that they are afraid of issues with the Dark.

My bottom of the barrel GA-X79-UP4 has none of the issues the x79 Classified.  BIOS is a ton better even.  And there is no category named "PCI-E 3.0 **Workarounds**" that enabling causes a submenu of half a dozen other options for which no explanation is given.  Perhaps I've just not set my "PCI-e Bifurscation" for IOH 1 IOU2A Gen1/2/3 Retrain Count Period Retry PCI AGP Zip-Drive for port 2C correctly. (I have never seen 60% of the options in that bios in any other BIOS - even SuperMicro beta BIOS', and believe me, they have some complex options).

The Dark is to have an all new BIOS as well. So we do not know exactly what to expect when it is released.

At this point depending on price, wouldn't it be a better option to wait for the Ivy-Bridge E series to launch and pickup a 'dark' for that platform.

Do EVGA have any plans to release a high-end 'dark' board when Ivy-Bridge E lands?

Yup, however there will also likely be a new chipset.

Like Ivy Bridge LGA1155 when from Z77 to Z87.

I'd image Ivy Bridge E LGA2011 will go from X79 to X89 or similar...

What? You mean SB to IB? IB is 1155 and haswell(z87) is 1150

While I would LOVE for those of us who adore our -Enthusiast platforms to be given a new chipset, it isn't clear yet what Intel is going to do.  Honestly, right now most accounts I have read speculate that it will remain X79.

However right now the focus will be on the latest chipsets and you will probably see a lot of the latest chipset motherboards at Computex which starts next week so keep your eyes on applicable websites.

Ivy-E is slated for 3Q-4Q 2013 release.  I already own a 3820 chip for this build.  I also fear that Intel will pull the same deal with the IHS that they did with Ivy, that caused many a people to remove the IHS, or "de-lid"/"re-lid" their processors, warranty be damned.  The small improvement seen in Sandy to Ivy in IPC performance combined with possible thermals... possibly reducing overclockability.

Ivy-E as far as everything I have read will continue to run on the x79/c60x chipset, I've not heard of any new chipset coming.  I did read some rumors about them holding onto LGA2011 but changing pinout for Haswell-E.

Same here, though X79 "works" well enough removing the lane restrictions without us having to go up to a full blown Xeon setup, and Intel pleasantly surprised me with the 3820 being "partially" unlocked despite not being a "K-sku", and overclocks well even then.  They added (or more appropriately enabled) the Rapid Response (or whatever the caching thing is - can't ever keep them straight - brain and acronyms), the only thing we're missing is quickSync due to no IGP, and the IGP comes in handy when you have to RMA and only have one video card, but that's what I keep my 8800GT around for.

All in all, 40 unobstructed PCI-e 3.0 lanes and Hexacore/12 thread (or better -- we shall see what IB-e brings), buys us plenty of life in what would normally be a long-in-the-tooth platform.

From what we seen and heard they totally redid the X79 Board knowing Sandy Bridge-E is going to drop in price when Ivy Bridge-E come out. As long as Jacob stays true to his word id love to get my hands on a X79 Dark. My X79 SLI has been nothing but problems.

I would not be too quick to equate a new looking bios with a good functioning bios. Only proof here is if they release this board and how it performs in owners hands. ( not reviewers )

Kinda seems like they want the new z87's out there before their newer x79.

Question for EVGA.. I am currently deployed and my X79 Classified that does not work is now at my new duty station (Philippines) how will I trade in my mobo+money for the Dark.  It is a real concern for me since my GOD FORSAKEN Mobo does not work right and never has worked right since I purchased it

Looking at Vince Lucido's Facebook he does a good amount of OC'ing.
I cant link the page but he has a post showing some OC stats. The bios version and brand are exactly the same, given its a brand new Mobo i am hoping its not remade using the same bios as depicted. Needless to say on the same page he OC'd the mobo fairly well 5.6Ghz aswell as the memory. If id have to guess they re-did the entire board while making the new Ivy-e boards. Need i mention he is #1 in the Hall of Fame for 3D Mark: "Fire Strike Extreme" using the X79 Dark and Quad Titans.
