This time next year will be X99 Chipset and 2011 Socket Haswell-E DDR4 yada yada...thats why I sat its getting a tad late in the game for new X79 Premium Board.

I can totally understand how many X79 Classy users are getting impatient, really its a bit of a slap paying upwards of $400+ for a non-working Board, only to be told you can step -up (if thats the case), to a Dark and have no idea when......

Lets face it...X79 debut back in 2011...its not as though  new tech....personally if I had a borked Classy for awhile I would have gone with an alternative Board long ago...hang onto the Classy in case I can somehow re-coup cost....curious, did Evga offer a full refund for your borked boards if you wanted it?

I know what you are saying, but I think it will realistically be longer for X99. I know that I'm not going to pay for DDR4 when it first comes out, it will all be very, very expensive. I may go for the IB-E 4930X as this is really going to up the game long enough for X99 pricing to drop some. I probably won't even need  to upgrade for quit awhile anyway until software catches up. If we are really, really, really, really fortunate Haswell will somehow be backwards compatible with DDR3 just don't ask me how that will work . I don't think it's late in the game when X79 is still the best thing going for multi GPU. Infact I'm predicting X79 will be the longest lasting platform I have had yet. X99 will be awesome but some how I think the price will reflect that as well for a long time.

+1 ^^^  Pretty much my thinking as well...I don't jump on the new stuff until it's been out a bit for 2 reasons.  Price and good reviews.  This time not jumping on the X79 at launch time paid off with all the unresolved issue's.  So now with the "soon to be launch" of the X79 Dark, it's perfect timing for me...  After some good reviews pour in.  Hopefully...

Anyone know if the X79 Dark edition will be offered in a FTW model or is it only a classified edition??  I'm looking at the mobo size here.  E-atx vs XL-atx.

The Dark X79 is an E-ATX spec board.

I've read conflicting opinions about the size of the board in this thread.  Does anyone actually have any link to specs yet or do we need to just wait until it's actually released?

This is all just hear say and uber nerd speculation. When the actual specs come out from evga when the dark is released we will know the factual spec then.

That's pretty much what I've been thinking as I continue to keep updated with this thread...The closest thing I took to maybe being "actual" specs was Jacob saying it's the same size as the original X79 Classy.  Figured he'd be the one to know if anyone did...

^^^^ Mounting holes maybe the same as E-ATX but doesnt mean the Board is actual E-ATX size.

As in X58 Classified - E-ATX mounting BUT slightly smaller than my RIVE (same mounting) but true E-ATX size Board.

I believe my old X58 Classy same size as X79 Classy....not true E-ATX size Boards, the X58 Classy is about 2cm narrower then RIVE

This is true, but that wasn't what I was responding to. There's a big differences between a XL-ATX and a E-ATX motherboard. One of those big differences is how the board is mounted and the I/Os. Based on the current pictures, if people are asking if it's E-ATX or XL_ATX then it's clearly E-ATX.

Re:EVGA X79 Dark 2013/06/08 12:53:04 (permalink)
...come on, look at the descriptions from the various sites that have been to events where the "Dark" was shown. When mentioning the physical specs of the board E-ATX is stated. Look at some of the recent computex pictures were the z87 and x79 are side by side. The Dark is not the same size as the classified.

Why a rep from EVGA claims it to be XL-ATX is odd. EVGA had been saying E-ATX when showing it at events.

The X79 FTW is a little smaller than the RIVE but both fall under the E-ATX form factor. XL-ATX boards are longer in length than E-ATX boards. If you had a XL-ATX board and replaced it with a E-ATX board, the difference will be much more than 2cm.

I'm sure someone in the forums has the X79 classified and a standard ATX/E-ATX board they could show for comparison.

None of the boards shown here fall under the XL-ATX (X79 Classified) form factor, but one of them is the X79 Dark.

THIS POST from Jacob makes it appear the Dark is EATX:

EVGA_JacobF
POSCAP's are nice but they are very expensive, and use a lot of PCB real estate.

For every standard solid capacitor you need 2 POSCAP's, this uses up a lot of PCB space in the end and with 8 DIMM's and a socket 2011 + 4-way SLI in an EATX form factor, it is just as effective in most cases to use POSCAPs where it matters most instead of everywhere.

However THIS POST from Jacob makes it appear the Dark is XL-ATX:

EVGA_JacobF
Its the same size as X79 Classified.

Because if you look at the x79 Classy Spec Sheet, the form factor states XL-ATX, so...

...and yes, it took me ages going back through this thread to find that seemingly conflicting info, so you're welcome.

Thanks for letting us know Jacob!

Now i am 95 percent sure it will fit in my upcoming Murderbox MKII, because the RIVE will fit in it as well.

Now we will just have to wait for the release and hopefully good first impressions.

It will just be step up and they will just allow everyone to do it no matter when you purchased. It wont be free though, you will still have to pay the difference + tax + shipping both ways. At least that is how I figure they will do it.
