X79 Dark Upgrade Program

we should get some more info within next 24 hours :)

EVGA_JacobF

Expect to see some more information by tomorrow, availability will be very soon, but not tomorrow.

Edit June 26.

More great news from Jacob :)
EVGA_JacobF
Just want to say that we have the program almost nailed down, and working on the announcement and final details. It is quite close so please stay tuned :)

Edit 16. June:
Info we know so far
Estimated release date: first half of July
Motherboard size is confirmed to be E-ATX
New UEFI BIOS, like on Z87 motherboards
Support for 2-Way, 3-Way and 4-Way SLI
SATA 6G is Marvell 88SE9230
2x Intel NIC
Heat sinks are made of aluminum, not plastic

EVGA_JacobF Here is the slot assignments:

1 card = X16
2 cards = x16/x16
3 cards = x16/x16/x8

4 cards = x8/x8/x8/x8

EVGA_JacobF Also price target under $399 but that is still being ironed out.

why not full POSCAP's:
EVGA_JacobF POSCAP's are nice but they are very expensive, and use a lot of PCB real estate.

For every standard solid capacitor you need 2 POSCAP's, this uses up a lot of PCB space in the end and with 8 DIMM's and a socket 2011 + 4-way SLI in an EATX form factor, it is just as effective in most cases to use POSCAPs where it matters most instead of everywhere.

good news for existing evga x79 users:
EVGA_JacobF Hey guys,
I just would like to mention that we are working on an X79 Dark program for existing EVGA X79 owners.
I don't have any further details at this time but please stay tuned for more details.

EVGA boards always look somewhat decent.

1. How stable will it be?
2. Can we see BIOS screenshots?
3. Will the UEFI be better then the last UEFIs?
4. ETC?

Interesting how they decided to not use the standard x79 socket with the threads for a cpu cooler like on a normal X79 board. Holes like 1366. Interesting. I am excited to see how this board preforms. I would love to ditch my ASUS board for the EVGA one depending on price

Please tell me that this board will allow for 1-4-7 spacing 3 way SLI , and comes with the proper bridge. Please! It has the right PCIe slot layout.

Also, can anyone fill us in on any small details, such as who manufactures the NIC and extra SATA controllers?

Maybe EVGA can make for us with Z77 FTW similar shield for Ports to install somehow now.
