Did you notice that the CPU latching mechanism of this EVGA Dark board use the same/identical CPU latching mechanism of the X79 ASUS ROG motherboard, and not the reference INTEL X79 latching mechanism, I already manage to get a dead X79 ASUS ROG mobo to find out this improved latching mechanism (with its corresponding improved back-plate) for my EVGA X79 FTW mobo

Interesting observation, I didn't catch that after glancing a few times at the pictures.

Well I hope that this board is what the X58 Classified was.

It certainly could be, IF it has none of the current X79 issues which are completely ridiculous.

Fortunately ASUS know how to make a very good and properly done back-plate for the LGA2011 socket, I already got this improved bigger ASUS back-plate for my X79 FTW mobo, made with four studs and four standoffs

That is exactly what gives me distaste in EVGA for the first time ever.  Instead of addressing the issues everyone has been having with the current lineup they just move on and design a new model that is "what should have been."   I was actually happy with my FTW for what it is (and for the low price I paid).  The Dark announcement changed that.  A new bios for all of us existing X79 owners released alongside the Dark would really be nice.

I swap the CPU latching mechanism of my EVGA X79 FTW mobo with the latching mechanism of a dead X79 ASUS ROG mobo, because the four stand-offs are together with the back-plate and not together with the latching mechanism, obviously there is not a big difference, but I think the bigger ASUS X79 ROG back-plate must have been the one chosen by INTEL as X79 reference backplate

@EVGA_JacobF,

Can you list here PCI-E lanes assignment and which PLX chip is used?
Still looking for board that will offer dual x16 in slots 2 & 4 or 3 & 5...

And which exactly controllers will be use to handle USB3 and SATA3...

I hope you are joking. $600 is outrageous. The extreme 11 features an LSI RAID controller, multiple PLX chips and even considering that is priced ridiculously too high. This board needs to be no more than $399 for it to appeal to people. (Personally I think $299-$349 would be around the proper range. Especially considering EVGA's current position in the motherboard market). I know you love to "promote" EVGA or whatever, but let's not get crazy here.

That makes it sound like the new bios might not improve existing boards at all and we would need the Dark with "hardware related enhancements" to hopefully be rid of existing issues.  Fingers are crossed though, I'm choosing the optimistic approach.

Re:EVGA X79 Dark 2013/01/14 08:38:08 (permalink)
While being good to me and even upgrading my board I still have the random USB 3.0 issue. I KNOW it can not be fixed which why I stopped with the RMAs and live with it. They upgraded my SLI to a FTW free of charge, given ALL the issues I had, which were a lot even by this forums shown problems.  I get the feeling the current boards have some fundamental issues that are never going to be fully addressed even after a major bios rewrite/fix and even then will only help so much. I guess I will wait and see along with everybody else...

I have always chosen my MBs on the basis I just needed very, good and did not need the top of the line to keep costs down for me. If they over price the new MB and fix the current issues without a reasonable upgrade path, I will be kind of upset even with all the help they have given me. I know time moves on and things get better over time, improvements are made etc. There does need to accountability to previous owners though and no matter how good the customer service is if they do not make all the rest of us "whole" so to speak, they lose the credibility.

I am not demanding anything, I have stopped talking to tech support, I have paid for advanced RMAs etc. I have been upgraded. EVEN with all of these things my board does NOT work 100% and while the issues are considered minor by them, there is nothing they can do for me OR those with the same issues I have. I have never had a 100% working MB since I have owned an X79 MB! I have had others here help make mine work better, getting me decent OC'ing, but in the end I STILL have never had a 100% working product and the is NOT MY FAULT. IF I have to pay for an upgrade I will but it better be a reasonable price. The reason I would pay is you almost never get something for nothing in this world , BUT if a small cost gets to 100% that works for me too... I am not where near as smart and/or as bright a LOT of people here BUT I do know right from wrong. I have been treated by EVGA as best as humanly possible, but that does NOT cure the fact am not, or will I ever be 100% with the FTW I have. If there is a way to prove that wrong, I welcome it...

It looks Schmexy...
Might upgrade from my X79 SLI if it doesn't cost a small fortune.

But i'll wait for some user reviews this time before i take the plunge, as i seemingly am the only lucky SOB with an X79 (next to Rjohnson) who's not having any issues after getting a new BIOS chip.
Hell, i'm still running on BIOS .34
But i don't OC, so that might be part of it.

I know price of board 450-480$.
It's hard predicted depend of many factors.

Man Vlada,
I hope considering the fiasco with the last board they take that into consideration on the price points. I don't know if folks would give them another chance at that high a price.

Intel thinks that an Enthusiast "needing" eight cores would be better off with a Xeon instead...

I'm still waiting for EVGA to mention how they are going to help the people using their "Crap" boards. I understand that you guys felt the need to chop the price in half in order to "Sell" the boards, and I understand that you couldn't for the life of yourselves figure out what went wrong, but what I can't understand is why you would resolve the issues (or claim to) that are blatantly present and not offer some type of break for your early adopter that not only have crap boards but paid top dollar.

If you're going to mulligan because you gave up on us, at least say so and offer some type of solution to us.

Yup, there are more than a few people out there that are waiting on the same!

The only thing we can bet on for sure from EVGA:   SILENCE.

As much as it pains me (I've been a long time customer of EVGA) I will likely take my business motherboard and otherwise elsewhere for the next series. It's a damn shame because the customer service was amazing, but like it has been said multiple times...if support can't actually fix the issue then all we're doing is talking. don't get me wrong I love talking shop with the techs..but not under those circumstances.
