Re:EVGA X79 Dark 2013/06/04 02:01:23 (permalink)
I have my x79 classy ready to go back to rma to amazon for refund. I would much rather hold off and step up to the dark, if anyone at evga can commit to an actual step up program for those Of us (IMHO) shafted by the x79 classy. And for those that either mentioned they have theirs sitting on a shelf or otherwise unused in this thread, as well as those who have spent countless sleepless nights trying to get working what should work, it should be a no brainer to freebie step us up as a token of evgAs standing behind their product.

I am wondering whether to send my x79 classy back or wait it out for the dark and send evga my x79 classy instead of the retailer. Can anyone for the love of all that is holy put a release date in this dark board? 15 days? 30? 90? And what onboard LAN it will have, what alc, and if all 40 pic e channels are finally available, and if it will have additional Sata ports beyond the Ich 4xsataii and 2xsata3.

I like the *physical* build quality of my x79 classy, well laid out and wanted evga classy since my x58 version.

Can someone provide more than speculation here so I can make an informed decision?

If the answer is "It'll be released when we are damned well ready, off you go", that would at least let me make the decision to return to reseller for refund.

Anyone know what kind of memory would be great for this board?

I already have a 3930k ready for it, just need to buy some memory.

Either 16GB or 32GB should be enough for me.

Where I am not really knowledgeable on the X79 Series does the integrated memory controller have the same problem the x58 series had where if you occupied all the memory slots it gave you problems overclocking?

Brand new BIOS. Picture:

https://twitter.com/EVGA_...92883796025347/photo/1

So basically its the same bios dressed up and made pretty.. I am so very let down. Still no CPU offset, single core OC.. who knows what is in the Xtech config area, but somehow I doubt its the vdroop control that is apparently missing.

Exactly who is EVGA catering too with this new board? people that like shiney things?! I don't even know what to say anymore.

Surely your joking...
This MB is currently the world record holder for quite a few different benchmarks by K|NGP|IN

http://www.3dmark.com/fs/502954. So I think there might be a little more to this board than you are making out...

You're blinded by the shiney.. for myself and quite a few others whos interest is more in line with a 24/7 overclock; I think you will find that a board that can function correctly coming out of sleep is more important then some guy maxing every setting under dice and setting virtual benchmark records.

EVGA has a whole forum of issues to answer for, and if the answer is a UI update to make the bios look pretty.. well thats not gonna go over well.

EVGA needs to figure out C-states and P-states or just give up. Niche market of world record setting overclockers isn't going to keep them in business.

First thing I do before installing Windows is "disable" all sleep mode functions, havent used S3 Sleep mode in years.

The only two reasons to replace the my watercooled Asus rampage VI extreme for a  Evga Dark is one the name and two the need for more sata connections.
And the pleasure of discovering the new options and overclocking
So where can I (pre)order it ( as quickly as possible )

x79 dark will have the same amount of sata ports as rive bud. 2 intel sata lll ports and 4 intel sata ll ports.

Gonna toss the rive for this mobo, good luck bud.

Maybe the retail model of the Dark will be XL-ATX, but from the pictures I've seen from EVGA so far of the Dark is clearly the specs of a E-ATX board. It has a similar PCIe layout  to other E-ATX boards, one example would be the ASUS Rampage VI Extreme.
If anyone has a link to them showing a retail model Dark and can share please do.

The FTW didnt use the first slot because of the boards design.  That is why it seems a diffferent size when based on slot layout.

So the first slot in the case is unused.

EVGA

A year late and over $360, short...Not including what each failed RMA cost.

Not only am I thoroughly unimpressed...It's quite shocking that EVGA has yet to say a peep about what "step up"/exchange would be initiated considering we've been in line for a working product for just @ 1.5 years...But, that's not surprising either, considering the standard quid-pro-quo delays...

I've seen some of the reviews and...Where was this a year ago? Your representatives actually acknowledge there are actual hardware issues with the board and yet allow your customers to continually RMA...Broken product for broken product...And now, this...Really?

Quite frankly, I'm 100% done with EVGA's motherboard department. I'm going to replace what I have and move forward with Asus...Unless this is the 2nd coming in which, there's a 2% chance for redemption but, highly unlikely.

I haven't kept my opinions, secret -- Clearly but, the fact that THIS many people have issues and the fact that EVGA waited practically the entire fiscal year to address even a smidgen of our issues with the X79's is truly pathetic.

To anyone that buys this, I wish you good luck...Certainly hope you have better luck then mine.

It has been a frustrating journey I admit, I will say this though: I don't see how evga can find the time to send a free sample of this to kingpin as well as 4 titans with daughter boards, and at least 4 super Nova power supplies with a street value of over 6000 dollars to take several world records, assuming for free, but can't seem to find the time to communicate with a mob of frustrated customers any kind of specifications or anything considering the product is obviously mature enough to take world records....

It's all good bud. There are other good X79 boards out there. Maybe if they had a concrete release date and more info I wouldn't have purchased my second RIVE just the other day.  The good old cliche "speak with your wallet" really applies here.

The way I see it EVGA lost my motherboard business for this generation (x79 Dark) based on my severely crippled and expensive (pre price drop) x79 FTW.

It's very discouraging to buy the best that EVGA had to offer at the time (FTW, and 2 GTX 680 Classys) and to pop in a 3930k but feel like you took a step back. The only reason I didn't offload the FTW is because of ethics (how could I give a none functioning motherboard to someone else for money or free even).

Sadly I feel so slighted by EVGA that I will be skipping the purchase of the dark and likely other mobos. In addition to a waning ability to overclock and the shortening of their warranties I'm seeing less and less reason to buy EVGA anything.

I don't know what happened to you EVGA, but you've lost my loyalty.

The way I see it they are primarily a VGA AIB partner. The only motherboards I have ever liked from them are the SR-2 and SR-X.

I understand the NEED to create business but, you've already essentially created a back-log due to a failed product.

Now you promote arguably the same product with 0 restitution to those that have used the same broken product for the past 1.5 years.

It's a business decision that would even make the likes of Tony Soprano, blush.

P.S. Kingpin also broke records on the original X79's...I don't put stake in records...I put stake in service...Which, we all know where that road leads us.

Records mean nothing to me either as it isn't a real world application. But I believe EVGA already said they had some kind of plan already laid out for the x79 owners. I assume it will be step ups, I'm confused why they continue to sell a board that doesn't function correctly

Re:EVGA X79 Dark 2013/06/05 12:32:22 (permalink)
Shamefully I had a bad experience with the EVGA X79 FTW, it kepts on auto rebooting with the famous FF code even with the latest bios, CPU I used was in it's support list the Core i7 3820 Sandy Bride E @ 3.8Ghz with 4 Cores and 8 Threads.

Even though After some research it seems that this CPU is the one that always causes major instability issues with the X79 FTW, the 3930K and 3960X seem to do just fine, although I have no idea how the i7 3970X would do  and what about even later models? Such things really worry me, due to what the i7 3820 showed me

And really, I truly loved the X79 FTW, purely to it's layout of its 8 external USB 3.0 ports it had, all the SATA III connectors it had internally, the layout of the slots, it was perfect layout wise!

All in all it was the perfect mobo for my needs, but alas due to the bad ride I had with it, sadly I had to let go of it, even though I could of kept it hoping an i7 3930 could fix my issues, somehow I was not sure, an old fried wanted to buy it from me and try it out, it seemed he got it working with an i7 3930 but yer I didn't have the money for that CPU, which is why I went for the 3820 instead.

But still I would love the X79 Dark, just hoping it would be better than the X79 FTW I once had. But then with a 3930K instead of the 3820, this CPU still seems to be a good choice, as I have seen with other EVGA X79 users.

I dunno if there will be Haswell E support for X79, not forgetting Ivy Bridge E too.

But yeah I am really thinking to go MSI or ASUS, even that EVGA has the layouts and features I seek, I just don't want to buy a high end product that will fail on me due to similar unreliable symptoms

The FTW didnt use the first slot because of the boards design.  That is why it seems a diffferent size when based on slot layout.

So the first slot in the case is unused.

I see, but it still looks like there wouldn't be enough room for the memory if you did that with the FTW.

@Gold: I use the 3930k CPU with my x79 FTW same issues as most 3820 users report.

Oh okay, well good I got rid of it them :X  I think I might go for the ASUS P79X WS, this one has also been on my mind as wanted mobo, it also supports ECC Reg memory, since I am not much of an Overclocker, a good 1 CPU workstation solution this mobo can be for my needs :)

I bought a ASUS formula a while back, which I never built yet. I went with it because of the the issues I read about with the EVGA boards, but then I read something else. I can't remember exactly, but it was regarding the X79 and Intel not officially supporting something. Can't remember if it was the new PCIe or SATA (someone please explain if you know). Anyway, I was thinking maybe it's not all on EVGA and maybe I might have probs with the ASUS as well.

I'm guessing the Dark is going to cater to the 4930 socket 2011 to be released soon and salve these problems.

Regarding the size of the board, it does look to be an EATX board, it has 7 possible PCI Slots, an EATX case has seven PCI Slots. The screws line up with the FTW model, so it must be an EATX and not a XL-ATX like the classified. You can see another view of the board here from Facebook, a picture shared by EVGA for their Computex booth.

This board looks awesome well done EVGA took too long though.
I want to eventually step up to the enthusiast chip set, is it even worth jumping on x79 Dark/2011 when Ivy Bridge Extreme is released or is its successor going to be released in the near future?

jokke

I hope the Dark will come to Norway this time!
Nott only Graphics card  But mb and all other Good stuff EVGA makes!
Only Graphics card is Available In Norway Sweden and Denmark Non mb or other stuff I gett soo Sad

Thats Correct, almost.
There are a few online shop that sells EVGA MB and PSU, a small selection, but all of them  are among the worst rated in Norway. If one have any sense one should stay away from theese shops. And they are expensive too

You can buy from EVGA Europa, but then one have to pay booth the German and Norwegian tax, due to EVGA Europa dont want to solve this issue. (its simple, most companys in EU have system for selling outside eu)
I again today sent them a mail,  bwilson@evga.com, to ask them to look into this for the third time. last time I sent a copy to the US office and they told EU office to look into how to fix this, nothing have happend so far.

When Norwegian buy online from EU countries we nearly in 100% not pay the local TAX/VAT.
And NO we cannot get a  refund of the (example) German tax from our custom office.

Jokke and any other Norwegian here should complain about the doubble taxing when bying from EVGA eu shop, use e-mail posted above.

I am now looking again for an MB after my Asus MB broke down and the new Asrock extreme11 I ordered was defect on arrivel.
I prefer the EVGA Dark, and could wait for it by bying a x58 from the B-stock if it was not for the doubble taxing problem, pay tax twice on same itime due to a company dont bother to make an easy change is not an option.

Also looking at EVGA NEX 1500w since my present 1200w is a little weak for me now.
I am extremly sorry to say due to all this I probably will purchase other brand than EVGA in beginning of next week if not this vat/tax issue between EVGA and Norwegian customers is not solved qiuckly.

It seem strange to me that EVGA is not intrested selling other items then GPU's in a surtent number i Norway, thats by the way are one of the very few countries in the world that on an consumer basis has not at all been affected by the economic crises last few years.
Maybe it has to do with we are only between 4-5 millon people here.

If the vat/tax issue cant be/not villing to solve, why not give the Norwegian/Scandinavians access to the us store?
