Looks like EVGA changed there cable design on there PSU.  I like the cables on the left better.

Me too, I think its a bit silly to give every single wire its own sleeve, I never agree with that

PC Power&Cooling 910W Silencer, I just LOVE this high quality and built to last PSU

Can anyone explain to me why one would choose this board over the Asus Rampage IV Extreme which has already been out for almost 1.5 years? Does this merely compete, or does it go above and beyond?

The RIVE is the shiznit, would be pretty hard to top that board and the X79 Dark doesn't look to do, IMO.

I dont dislike my X79 FTW, i dont have all the issue other have. Only 1 of my USB sometimes wont work, reboot and work ... Bios have some quirk, far from perfect.  But in the end, its working fine. paid 215$ for the X79 FTW, if i had forked more money, i would be crying.

My next board gona be an Asus... i owned tons of asus board and i never had issue, this one is my first board that have issue.... Sorry EVGA but this X79 DARK have to scrore damn high for you to receive my money again on a motherboard.

That makes sense.  Having all of the single wires running all over the place on a quad sli system would be frustrating.

I can concur...I am using the NEX 1500 with my 7970 x 4 and it's a mess:)  Those sleeves are SWEET.

This board has my interest.  Just wish I knew when it was coming out.  I was going to get a RIVE but is it not available anywhere (unless you want to pay more money on ebay).  Tiger Direct indicated to me it was discontinued.  Not sure how true it is but....  So I was all set to get an x79 system but don't have a motherboard to buy that I want.  :(  Looks like we may see some second generation of x79's I would guess?

Would love to know release date. I'm still on my X58 & i7-980, but looking at moving to perhaps an i7-3930K.. I won't be buying the EVGA X79 FTW though - way too many issues according to these forums. A couple of days ago I had the ASUS Rampage IV Extreme in my Newegg shopping cart.. was that close to buying it. If the EVGA X79 Dark proves to be a winner, then I'll very likely jump on it.. but heck, if it's going to take months more before it comes out, maybe I should just wait for the next series of Intel CPU, rather than buy a CPU that may soon become EOL?

Some 'leaked' info on the Haswell line, predicted in Q2 2013..
http://www.neowin.net/news/intel-next-gen-haswell-cpu-line-up-leaked-core-i7-4770k-the-flagship
May be worth the wait, as it's a new socket LGA1150.. no 6 cores though, and integrated GPU.

Last rumor I heard was that EVGA hopes the X79 Dark will be ready by the end of the 1st quarter if not sooner. If not by that time then hopefully sometime in the early part of the 2nd quarter. If Jacob has more info than that I'm sure he'll pass it along.

Hey man,

It should be out around the same time Intel is releasing their Ivy bridge E so I'd wait and get this board with that processor....6 cores....maybe 8 and Gen3 compliant.....

I'll be switching out my current MB and Processor once this comes out.

Yeah the IBE will be using the same socket, so I could still get the X79 Dark.. whereas Haswell is an entirely new socket... hmmm. Although it sounds like IBE wont be out until Q3 or so.. it depends on when the X79 Dark comes out. If the X79 Dark comes out very soon (and the first user reports are positive), then I'll go i7-3930K.. but if this mb doesn't come out within the next month or so, yeah, might as well wait for later this year and see what the new IBE series looks like, as you said. Thanks.

just remember......the 3930k isn't fully gen3 compliant...so watch out. I'm only able to run gen3 because Im running a gtx 690, the pcie controller is built on the card it self. where as with my 680 i'm only able to run gen2.

I'm give my mb and processor to my brother once the IBE comes out.

Yah, some people have success with it and some don't. I would get constant crashes trying to run gen3 with my 680.

I'll be glad not to worry about that stuff once IBE comes out.

Yeah, no issues on the RIVE and Intel states 8 GT/s is supported on 3930K in the November 2012 updated to their documentation.  Posted this a few threads... probably up above too.  Bottom line is the Intel chips work fine for PCIE 3.0, they just didn't get them certified.

Someone will be along soon to tell me I'm wrong.  But it's all good.  It works without issue if you have a decent motherboard.

Ah yes, I see in his sig he has a EVGA X79 SLI mobo. That would explain his Gen 3 issues.

Please explain your logic. Even as far back as December of 2011 enabling PCI-E 3.0 resulted in a 9 percent increase in performance.

Please explain your logic. Even as far back as December of 2011 enabling PCI-E 3.0 resulted in a 9 percent increase in performance.

Folks - PCIE 3.0 is USELESS at this point.

Here is another good link from a forum member here that shows some very nice gains with quad-sli and surround gaming:

Mine refuses to boot in PCIe 3.0 I am NOT one of the lucky ones...

I remember the EVGA BIOS having GEN3 workaround options for known errata with Intel LGA2011 processors. The options are in the menu above the one where the slot configuration is set. It may be worth trying to enable those options if the issue your system has with GEN3 is CPU related. The issue may be something related to the motherboard as well. From this source here, I found several errata:

Codes: BS69, BS142, BS171 *, BS173

* Can cause unexpected system behavior and a fix can be implemented via BIOS to work around this errata

Ah, My Mistake - If you are running Quad GTX 680's then yes this is an issue.
