Do not attempt to download this driver yet. The install is a mess for multi monitors. I'm referencing the driver.

The install worked for my laptop, but the three monitor install resulted in reinstalling my backup drive.

It may work if you disconnect the other two monitors and attempt to install on a sinle monitor setup. But for now, steer clear.

I installed this driver last night (against my better judgement) to try out the new HL2 Borealis demo. Was greeted with a frozen game and PC lockup. Only way to recover it was to turn off psu switch and unplug the power cable. Finally got the PC to start up, but my games were running poorly. The demo was sub 30fps @suggested settings. So, tonight, I downloaded latest DDU Uninstaller, performed uninstall (in safe mode)and then rebooted the system. Reinstalled the driver and tried the demo again. After getting past the intro movie , I went to resume play. After about 2 minuets, the picture went away, greeting me with a small box full or RGB pixels (not good) and PC locked up. Uninstalling drivers and rebooting greeted me to a post code 97. Seems my 3080 went to the happy hunting grounds over this driver!
I removed it, installed my trusty 980ti Classified, did the uninstall in safe mode and installed driver 537.58. I then shut down the PC, removed the 980ti and reinstalled the  RTX 3080. Still post 97 code....
So, for now this "new" PC I built is back to the 900 series for now. Maybe the wife will let me get another card for my birthday this week (highly doubtful), or just put one of my 1080ti cards back in. SLI runs the upper card too warm...

I think part of the problem was having the GeForce software install as part of the driver install. I tried installing the drive with and without the GeForce install with no success initially.

I reinstalled my backup drive and started over a couple of times. Not sure if trying to install an earlier driver would have helped, but it is nice to have a restore method as a backup.

The new driver also distorted the screen resolution, font size, magnification, etc. When I was able to get a restart, two of the three screens would not displayed at all and then like you, I could not get the system to turn off.

The continuing issue with all of the past driver installs for sometime now, is that when rebooting the display has exploded and you have to move the windows around to find an install button of some other selection. I think this might have been part of the failed install this time.

Another potential issue was not automatically downloading the appropriate driver. This install required you to select which driver to install between the two available.

Well, the wife said "hell no" on a new card, even if it's my bday tomorrow... So, I took the 3080 and put it in am existing Windows 7 PC that I have mounted to a test bench (man, those are convenient!). Did a clean install & card booted right up !?  So, I removed the 980ti Classified from my main PC (after clean driver uninstall) and installed the 3080. Now it posts, with no code 97!?
installed driver 566.14 and all is fine (so far). On a side note, I forgot how big the Classified is. It dwarfs the 3080!

Sorry to hear about the knee issue.  Weird issue with the code 97. Sounds like whatever caused it got resolved somehow. Happy Thanksgiving and happy gaming...

I'm glad it resolved itself too! Now, the wife wants new patio furniture (but I couldn't get a video card), so..... I told her if I can get an RC helicopter, she can get the new furniture. And she agreed !
Told her I'll keep it under 1K though.... She passed out, lol!
