Hello all! A few months ago I purchased a second hand 3080ti as an upgrade and have been having some issues with it. Shortly after getting the card I started getting weird blacks screens. It seems like when the GPU "warms up" engough doing anything on the computer causes the GPU fans to ramp to max and have no video output. On system reset it will stay on for 30 seconds before repeating this black screen and ramping the fans to max. Out of frustration when it happened and not being able to get in contact with the seller I left it sitting after spending a few weeks troubleshooting it. Fast forward to recently I decided to try a few other things to make it work, I ended up updating the firmware on the card to the newest revision (I am not sure of the version but can get it if needed, it was something to do with a display port update). After doing this update it did not crash and continued to work for close to a month before black screening repeatedly again. I am at my wits end with this card and have tried nearly everything I can think of and crawled endless forums for this issue to no resolution and I am hoping someone here might have some insight. I am not getting any strange overheating (when it was actually functioning properly running games) with temps in the mid 70s to low 80s drawing somewhere in the neighborhood of 360W in games.
I have tried the card with 3 power supplies and even in another system with separate peripherals and everything with no luck, I have tried a new install of windows as well as running DDU, no luck. Tried default windows graphics drivers.  Even black screens in safe mode. Just last night I decided to mess with it more and I tried putting it in my system again hoping that it was due to sag and poor contact between a thermal pad to a VRM causing it to put itself into a protective "crash" state. It ran Furmark for over an hour before black screening again and ramping fans to 100%. Upon restart it will make it into Windows and before I can open anything or making it around 10 seconds it blacks screens again. Upon reboot it then basically instant black screen. It did this reboot then quickly crash about 6 times last night until I gave up and put my old card back in. I was checking hwinfo while it was running Furmark to check on thermals. HWinfo under the section "EVGA iCX was reading sensor PWR5 around 92 C at the time of the crash with the other PWR and MEM sensors in the mid to high 80s if I remember correctly. There were also no events in event viewer recorded for these black screens.
Thank you for any possible help you can provide and please let me know if there is anything I have missed or can add to help with troubleshooting. I have asked around in a discord channel for board repairs and the response I got from them seems to think this could be a faulty VRM over temp fault trying to protect the card even though the card was cooled to room temperature after the first initial crash last night and continued to protect itsself. Could this be a plausible explanation for this kind of behavior? It seems weird to me that it can work fine for a month plus and run Furmark drawing 400W only for it randomly decide it is running too hot.
Thanks all

    Dear Nrsc3,

    Welcome to the Forums!

I am sorry to hear about your recently acquired card not working as expected.

It does not sound like it is overheating so I suggest if you haven't already that you try to remove any PCI-e slot extenders and if the card is running on 8-pin power cables with multiple ends, then you could try to use separate power cables to each 8-pin on the card to see if that helps.  You may also consider trying the card on another computer to see if it follows the card or the system.

If the same behavior continues on two systems, it maybe the card itself.

i've lost the display on my screen and the millieur light above the PCI connectors on my evga rtx 3080 Ti is still on red even though i've swapped the connectors and their positions in the power supply. so i've connected an nvidia 9400 gt in addition to display at the moment. i've checked my power supply via its usb connection to the motherboard and apparently it's working correctly. so how do i fix my graphics card. please thanks in advance.

Yea I have unfortunately no risers/extenders and have separate 8-pin cables that going to the card, I have also tried it on 3 separate power supplies now and 2 separate machines with the same outcome :/
