malice653 I hate to sound ignorant but is 3,000watts of power supply really needed?

Nope. The system shouldn't need anywhere close to 3000W.

Then you know very little about what Vince does, and the power he needs to do what he does. He will use more than 1500W, will he use all 3000W? Probably not, but he still needs more than the one PSU provides.

Very true, he does some crazy overclocks, that much power, that much voltage, and that many components can really suck down some power.  Also, if possible, especially for applications with that sensitivity, I would advise not maxing out a PSU as they become less efficient and more prone to fluctuations, in which case, again, I would say using multiple PSU's is not a bad idea.

this and when you split the load across more power supplies the power provided from the psu is cleaner. meaning the harder the psu is pushed, the more fluctuations can be seen in the power supplied. they work more efficiently and easier when the load is split. stability is key when going for those crazy clock speeds.

That is absolutely correct. Maximum stability is needed for any LN2 testing.

I do wonder, how will the X79 dark compare the the classified in terms of features/OCing/Price, will it be a grade above in performance and price, a bit below, or around the same?
Just wondering if it'll be the new top EVGA motherboard (for single CPUs anyway)

Ideally I'd like to see it a step above the classified, but not at a higher price point.

I'd really like to upgrade to an X79 system at some point, and the dark edition looks like just the thing, but of course there's that money issue as well in there, lol

EVEN IF the Dark is a GOOD MB is it REALLY going to be better than a working RIVE? I mean Asus customer support aside, when that MB works IT IS Something else...

On a side note? I am building a new 18 TB NAS using an AMD FM2 MB by Giga-Byte, the cpu is an AMD A4-5300. It has 8 Sata III connectors etc., etc. It is NO X79 performance wise but for a NAS it's perfect! You should see the Fancy UEFI bios it has, it looks so slick and amazing it makes the Evga look like some 3rd grader did it and that is NOT me being mean, harsh, nasty or unprofessional.

If you already have an Asus board I would not bother switching. I don't think EVGA could pay me to switch at this point. They will have to prove it is just as good as the Asus boards if not better for that to happen.

Hmm. What's with ASUS putting a 6 pin PCIe power slot right on the middle left side of the mobo? ..doesn't matter what direction you come from, you're going to have wires running over the top of the board.. damn that was an ugly design decision.

Quite a few bad reviews on Newegg (mainly RMA / service related) ..seems if you get a good one, they are awesome, but if you don't.. hell is what follows. Sounds familiar huh. Maybe not as prevalent as EVGA x79 though...

I'd like to move up to the  i7-3930k, but damn.. almost scared to take the chance.

He probably used the one of the early EVGA X79 boards like that in his GTX 680 tests too......point is until we get these in our hands, who knows how it will perform or what bugs may surface.  Some of us were burned so badly, even seeing fire again scares us.

Not to mention, he doesn't use the board like we do. So we see more flaws in the board than just cranking some voltage in the BIOS and EVBOT. I don't even have any hopes for this mobo. I hope review sites tear this board apart when they get it.

People who bought the Stinger gave it a chance. EVGA had a chance to redeem themselves on that one. Why I would love more than anything for this board to become the next E759, but I'm not holding my breath. And if it does turn out to be great, I may even buy one.

With all due respect, that statement is unreasonable and unfair.   It's on EVGA now to prove their motherboards and customers don't purchase "with faith".  We have given them a chance and it didn't work out well for us last round.  Until something is done for me (and I am sure others) I will purchase my boards elsewhere.

I hope for EVGA's sake that their product does improve.

I really think you guys should give this MB a chance.

People who bought the Stinger gave it a chance. EVGA had a chance to redeem themselves on that one. Why I would love more than anything for this board to become the next E759, but I'm not holding my breath. And if it does turn out to be great, I may even buy one.

The e759 motherboard should go in the motherboard hall of fame!!!!  After that board,  EVGA lost most of their engineers.  Maybe that is why they have had so many motherboard problems.
