Well hopefully I can make it. But I also have to say its quite toasty in my room with the Titan and 1070TI going near 24/7. Im folding on the 1070Ti 24/7 and Titan when Im not using my system for personal use. This seems to be doing alright for me for points but It sure isnt helping temperature and im curious as to my power bill. I have also hit the power limit of my PSU once and am going to be upgrading in order to not do it again. Guess my 7900X pulls more power on its OC than I thought. Im just under a 1M PPD average the way im folding.

At 400K PPD you can't reach the year's 12 second goal and for the first goal you need at least a 780Ti (the 780 can't), a 970 or a 1060, and that's 24/7!
The steep increase will surely discourage many but eventually the situation will get better once faster cards propagate in the slower part of the user base.

keep in mind that the AVG listed on EOC is over the last 7 days. so if you fold for just 1-2 days over the last 7 to reach 4M points your AVG will not be reflected to your "True" ppd that they did during their time folding.

I would love to get me some bucks.
I'm currently running at plus or minus 90M PPD per month.
Do I have to be an EVGA member?
I'll be adding an EVGA 2080 or 2080ti soon, for 24/7 folding, and could use some bucks off the price...
Anyone from EVGA kind enough to lend me one? ;)

I totally understand that and would make sense to keep up with the faster cards, but i really doubt that the 2xxx Series cards are out there in massive form due to the fact that the cards it self are way beyond reach of many users because they're just plain expensive.

as an example... according to Steam Hardware Survey, the first Top 20xx Series card is the 2070 and this makes for
0.50%
Steams total users using this GPU while the highest is 15.88% GTX 1060
(source: https://store.steampowered.com/hwsurvey/videocard/)

with that said, I still its too early for the Tier levels to go up let alone the huge leap of the 2nd Tier, in my opinion the tiers should just have been 7mil / 14mil as most of the tiers in the past were 1:2 ratio.

I am a user who is also cautious of my electric bill and also want to support the cause of [link=mailto:Folding@Home]Folding@Home[/link] and I do understand EVGA trying to force more users to stay longer with Folding. but imo the 21m mark would just discourage more users.

I am curious to howmuch points EVGA will accumulate in the end of the coming months to see whats the difference.
I have a 1080Ti but I know for sure I wont be reaching the 21mil mark due to my use and my PC is not a 24/7 folding machine.
and theres no reason for me to upgrade either as 1080ti is just still good where it is

Just FYI Sixie, I have one 1080ti that is a 24/7 folder. It will do about 32 Million PPD per month. That should take around 21 days for the top tier.

An RTX 2060 only costs $350.
Sell your old card second hand, and the total will be less than that.
If you're serious about folding, or want to hit those records, just sell your old card, and get the 2060.
You won't be disappointed.
The RTX cards can hit 1M PPD easily; and add 365-400MIL points per year to your username.

Thats pretty much what I said tho... takes 21 days ish 24/7 to fold the 21mil mark on a 1080Ti.

lucky you, you can do 24/7, i cant.... as I also use my PC for something else but fold.

and your probably missing the point, for some of us non 24/7 folders and for some who are aware of their electric bill, folding now to just try and reach the top tier has lost its valuable incentive.

let me put it this way, as much as I support the cause of folding on the backend, id rather save the money that would normally go to the electric bill of the 24/7 folding PC who is power hungry, and give my self 10 bucks a month instead of evga bucks.  my point is I think the 2nd tier 21mil mark is way to steep for some if not most, 14mil mark would make more sense seeing tier1 is 7mil.

anyway I do appreciate what EVGA has done so far with the folding project and they should definitely continue for another  indefinite time

Not practical to fold 24/7 with 1080, too high power cost and heats up small apartment , also forbits playing/working with pc.

Ill continue to fold for 7mil as its much more reasonable target

looking at the charts we have seen ~13 days of sustained peak folding. compare that to only ~9 from last month and already you can see signs of this update being successful at increasing points per month. though i still believe next month will be the real test.

This month is definitely gonna be hit and miss. Many folders just won't know what the new targets are this month. As evidenced by the 4 million and stop club. So April is the definite test month for the new totals.

Stefem what Name do you Fold Under if I may ask?

Stefano, I usually fold between 3 to 5 million points per month if I can as sometimes I have other application that compete with [link=mailto:folding@home]folding@home[/link] for compute time, I fold regardless of the EVGA promotion but sometimes it could be an incentive if I get close to a goal

Stefem what Name do you Fold Under if I may ask?

looking at the stats of people with over 400K PPD avg and have done 0 in the last day there are a lot who stopped at 4M

I think the sales of the 2070 aren't that bad considering the backlash RTX line have received, the 2080 is more problematic though and BDW the GTX 1060 was still increasing as there wasn't new and better alternative until the GTX 1660Ti.

I think there's a ratio behind the choice of the higher than linear increase for the second goal, I think they tried to keep the first within reach for slower cards and still incentive the one with faster or multiple cards to fold more with the second.

Electricity isn't cheap where I live so having to fold 24/7 @250W to reach the first goal become expensive, I have to check but I think the bucks for the goal doesn't cover the cost (I got curious so I will give a look). With your GTX 1080 Ti you will need to fold for 4 hour at day to reach the first and something like 12 hour for the second one so it's not that bad but I agree that the second is a bit to high without a dedicated folding machine.

Yea, Turing is beyond impressive, the RTX 2060 deliver 800PPD @120W on practically the same node as Pascal (12nm is an optimized 16nm) and I think it achieve that with a narrower design!

To understand possible costs ---> Convert Watts to  kWh

kWh = (watts × hrs) ÷ 1,000

so  2000 Watt Folding Rigs running 24 hrs = 48kWh

Look @ your last electric bill Divide the Total Cost (All Fees) by the Total kWh you used that period of time (it usually changes number in days)

this would be your "Cost per kWh"

So my last Bill $342.62 / 3,705kWh = 0.092475 per kWh

So 30 days @ 48kWh = 1,440 kWh x $ 0.092475 = $133.164 ---> would be My Cost if I was using 2000 Watts to Fold 24/7 for 30 days

If its heating your house during the Winter months then the impact is Not that bad --- during the Summer ... more AC is required ...more cost
