I've got 2 rigs currently, one with a 3080 XC3 and 1 with a 3080 FTW3. The XC3 has 2 8-pin power connectors but the FTW3 has 3. However, the XC3 overclocks much higher than the FTW3 even on the factory OC setting. Is there any purpose to the 3rd power connector? Does the FTW3 have higher TBP? Trying to get more out of my FTW3. Any advice would be appreciated.

System Specs:
5800x
32GB DDR4-3600mhz CL14
Hydroshift LCD 360
850w psu

I would assume you got lucky on the XC3 in the silicone lottery.

AMD Ryzen 9 7950X,  Corsair Mp700 Pro M.2, 64GB Corsair Dominator Titanium DDR5  X670E Steel Legend, MSI RTX 4090 Associate Code: H5U80QBH6BH0AXF. I am NOT an employee of EVGA

That's what I figured. The difference in how much power is available was making me question it. I don't know why they would bother requiring a 3rd pci-e power connector if you can achieve the same TBP with 2.
