im not expert and my common sense needs work but... ek tested a water block with a jet plate. they flowed coolant thru it normally on the first test and then on the second test they reversed it. Yes, they reversed the design and flowed the coolant backwards thru the jet plate.  1.5 difference in temps. theres no jetplates on the hydro copper. maybe its not that big of a deal unless someone is extremely focused on temps and oc'ing. i just put together my first water cooled build and need a watercooled card. i dont need hardcore OC and lowest temps possible. I already know its gonna be decent. 3080 is strong and watercool is quiet and better than air. What else is there?

I bought an XC3 Black after the HC delay since it's what I could get my hands on. Debating now whether to put an EK block on it and call it a day or to wait for the HC launch still since I'm setup for a notify.

I put an EKWB block on my XC, and it's been perfect.  Super easy to install too.

I'm not sure if this has been asked before but if I grab a 3090 FTW3 Ultra Hydbid (3988), will I be able to use the step up program for the HC (3989) when it becomes available?

What I've seen other ppl say is no, the hydrcools aren't really part of the step up

That's unfortunate, I wonder if I should just get the hybrid and put a waterblock on it.

I've been asking myself the same thing. I think if u get the 3080 hybrid that just went on notify I may do that.

Yeah, I'm still on the list for an aircooled FTW3 Ultra if i can get that first I'll take it with an EK waterblock, if I can get the HC version of the same first I'll take that, i just wanna finish the pc build i started 5 months ago xD

Yeah they've been pushed back a couple times, the best way to know when they'll go up for notify me is probably to follow Jacob's twitter and turn on notifications for it...

I thought we were talking January or later for the hydrcools. They had a problem and had to work on them more. Are the ekwb blocks really better performing? I'm likely to get a hybrid 3080 soon. I can either rip off the cooler and pay $230 for an ekwb block and backplate. Or, u can use it as a hybrid and not have it benefit from my 2x480mm alphacool radiators which seems like sacrilege, but the hybrid cools fine anyways. I built my watercooling rig when ehtereum mining was a thing and used to have four r9 290 pulling 1500w that my radiators were cooling so it's vastly over engineered for a single gpu/cpu.

Does the FTW3 Ultra Hybrid use the same PCB as the FTW3 Ultra non-Hybrid?

Weird question - but my link to purchase the non-Hybrid had expired and I grabbed a Hybrid.  Don't have space in my case for the dual radiator and would like to slap it into my custom loop once I can.

According to EKWB their FTW3 block supports the hybrid so I would imagine so. I plan on removing the hybrid and putting an EK block on mine once it arrives.

The FTW3 Ultra Hybrid, Hydro Copper, and Air cooled all have the same PCB according to EVGA customer service.

Just out of curiosity, why not get the regular FTW3 if that's the plan?

Because not everyone has the option of getting the exact card they want - unless you're willing to wait til who knows when in 2021.  Optimistic folks are thinking within a month or so - reality is probably way further out than that.

I had a chance to grab a regular FTW3 but the link expired.  The hybrids just opened up and some ppl were able to get in on the queue (hopefully at a better spot than with the regular cards).

When will the kingpin become available in a hydro copper block? I don’t think the demographic for this card is vary interested in AIO’s.

This is the question I've been asking myself, and refreshing the product pages and forums like a child waiting for a fedex package to try to find out.

Now I'm in a limbo state: Do I try for the hybrid when it goes up tomorrow, or do I roll the dice and try for the HC when it releases. If I go for the hybrid, will they release a stand-alone HC for the kingpin card (or by some weird coincidence, does the FTW3 waterblock from ek fit it; which I very-much doubt).

My hunch is the same as yours; I expect the HC to be more in-demand than the hybrid, so the risk is that I wait, and then potentially miss out on a kingpin all together. Or I go ahead and get the hybrid, but them I'm stuck with an AIO in a custom-loop build... They're not making this easy.

Will it be possible to disable all RGB on the card without software? I want zero tacky lighting in my build and I already have too much bloatware running in the background.

You can install the software, use it to turn all the LEDs off, then uninstall the software - that will work, and the LEDs will stay off.

EVGA Jacob says the KPE is a different PCB so that would mean different blocks for the FTW and KPE. I’m in the same boat custom loop but do I grab the hybrid and grab a block later or wait for the Hydro. I’m grabbing whatever I can first and if I have to resell the hybrid or put a block on it when one comes out. Will suck since my loop is better then anything the hybrid can do.

How's that working out? Good/stable boost speeds?

Hydro Coppers updated now with “ This product is not currently available for the notify queue and we do not have an ETA at this time.” Well that doesn’t sound like it’s coming anytime soon.

I also have an ek block on my XC. Temps are great 47 C max, but theres really really bad coil whine coming from my card now and it seems that everyone who got this waterblock is experiencing the same issue. I personally don't mind the coil whine because i have headphones on 95% of the time I'm on my computer anyways. As for the boost speeds? It's horrendous, not due to the block or temperatures, but because the card bottlenecked by the ridiculously low power limit. It would reach up to around 2100-2150 and then immediately go down to 1900s once it hits the power limit. It's very unstable. I believe the xc3 hybrid cards has a more updated bios on it which allows for higher power limit, I am going to test it out tonight.

Uhh. I've been using an EKWB with a 2080Ti XC. When brand new there was slight coil whine on the air cooler. It was less bad with the block. After a month of use nothing. Now: totally silent. And keeps the GPU really cool.

Oops I meant to say XC3*. I didnt have much coil whine with the air cooler on, but with the EK block it intensified. From reading many posts about it on reddit, it seems that taking off the backplate fixes the coil whine issue for the XC3, but again, I don't mind it. I think the EK block is great, it just sucks that my performance with it is being held back by EVGA's low power limit they set on this card.
