Midz. Glad to hear. They are dragging their feet in my case. The US team was really fast in replaying and they said it's a know issue and they offered to RMA and will pay for shipping. Then they transferred me to the EU team. They wanted to start troubleshooting from the beginning again (I'm fine with that) except they respond to my emails after like 4-5 days. So far, not the good customer service I'm hearing about.
They finally approved my RMA request after almost a month for both the card and hybrid kit. Though I had to pay for shipping all the way to Germany. Good thing I got a 60% discount from my work 😳

Final update on my RMA. So once again, EVGA did a great job on accepting my card and the hybrid kit for RMA. Around a week later since I shipped the card+kit I've received a brand new card and a brand new hybrid kit. (Germany RMA department thanks!) Took me a day or so to fully test the new GPU with an air cooler, it performed a little worse on OC than my original card, but pretty close. So the next day I unpacked the hybrid kit and noticed that this new kit had an extra tape where the metal part of the kit makes the contact with the pcb/soldered components. I did however, put extra tape on the metal part of the shroud. And finally installed the kit and the card runs perfectly. Thanks EVGA!

I received mine too and everything working great so far with the new hybrid kit installed. They offered me a new regular FTW3 or "not new" white Elite 12GB version witch I took instead of my Red Elite. Thanks EVGA team.

So I got a question, but can’t seem to find the answer. Please someone anyone, if I were to order a hybrib kit from amazon right now as we are speaking, would it have this defect that everyone is rambling about? I’m worried the hybrid will be doa. What would someone do in my shoes.

I'd say go ahead and order. Easy fix is to put some tape on the metal part of the shroud (before installing). It should fix it. If not EVGA will RMA easily for you. The upgrade is definitely worth it. Also makes sure before installing you read this whole thread. Just to be aware about the stuff.

Let me put it this way, while not the same issue, the two kits I bought for the FE/SC Founders style models were both manufactured this June and had the same wrong screws and instructions. So, as the other poster advised, be aware of the issues and solutions before you start.

Just received an ftw3 hybrid kit. The metal bit in the shroud was loose/unhinged like some people reported theirs were. So i snapped it into place, looks proper now, but is there some areas I should mask off with electric tape? I heard something can short the card? On my shroud there is nothing taped off. Also anyone who's had a successful installation, could they post their instructions to compare to mine..i think i got an older kit with no revision.

Yes make sure you tape of the metal part of the shroud. This is how EVGA taped of the shroud (the black tape). Can't upload the image so just use the links, they are safe. ibb.co/mLUwvz ibb.co/jMoOaz ibb.co/bLAQoK

You have that little black electrical tape on the right side of the shroud (same as in my pics) you should be good ;). But I taped the whole bottom metal part of the shroud anyways (of course electrical tape)

Check if your shroud has the tape on it, just like mine or veratek's. Looks like thats the "updated" shroud.

I'm in exactly the same boat as you. After recovering from the RTX-induced sticker-shock on Tuesday morning, I noticed that Amazon seemed to be having a fire sale on the 1080 Ti hybrid kits. So I bought a FTW3 direct from EVGA and bought the kit from Amazon. I'm currently waiting on UPS to deliver the card, but the kit won't be here until tomorrow. I've never cared for the aesthetics of the ICX/ACX/multi-fan coolers (or the way that the older ones tend to make the card sag), but I do like the design of the FTW3 hybrids. And since I couldn't seem to find an actual hybrid card available (at least not at a decent price), this seemed to make the most sense to get what I want. I'm glad I found this thread before I started to tear down my brand new card, but now I'm terrified that the kit will likely bork it. Is it possible that EVGA would be willing to just RMA the kit without me actually installing it, so that I get a replacement that has the modified shroud? I guess it's possible I'll get an updated kit from Amazon, but considering the way that this thread has gone, I'm not about to hold my breath... EDIT: Okay, so I take back what I said about not liking the aesthetics of the ICX cooler. I really did detest the older multi-fan (ACX) coolers because they looked/felt cheap to me. But this thing is solid and has some nice heft to it. I'm sorry that I ever implied it wasn't sexy. Still don't know what I'm gonna do about the hybrid kit when it arrives tomorrow, but now I'm a lot more likely to just use the stock cooler and be happy with it.

When you get the Hybrid kit, call up EVGA with the serial number and have them tell you if it is updated or not.

You know, that actually makes sense. Don't know why I hadn't thought of calling and asking about the serial, which should hopefully segue into getting it swapped out if they can't confirm that it's updated. Way to be logical!

Good Morning Everyone! I'm waiting to receive today an HYBRID Waterblock Cooler. I'm happy to discover this thread before! So, when the kit arrives today i will take a picture to share with you guys and verify if this is an updated kit with this "metal part" cover or not. I think many of us have bought this kit with the promotion (Amazon in my case) so it's a good time to update with information because there will be many interested. Great Post! Thanks. EDIT: Okey i have it!!!, I think it's this and it's okay and i hope i can change today and i will confirm if everything went well.

Really glad I came across this thread a few weeks ago. I received my hybrid kit (400-HY-5659-B1) from Amazon last month but haven't installed it yet because I haven't had the time (or the balls). I do have the black tape on my shroud and it was snug in place, so I'm hoping the kit I received is the one EVGA revamped and there won't be an issue. I do have a question though, which is, assuming my card is good to go after install with no issues, is it just plug and play? Will I be okay running the card as a FTW3 in XOC? or do I need to flash my card's bios to the Hybrid FTW3. It seems some are running their cards + hybrid kit with the FTW3 bios, while others recommend flashing the bios to the Hybrid FTW3. If you have successfully installed your kit on a FTW3 running on the FTW3 bios please let me know! This would be the first time I would have to flash a card's bios, which I would rather not do. Thanks in advance!

so what exactly is the difference between the bad hybrid kit and the current one now? What did they do to fix the issue? I am currently in the RMA process to getting a new video card and kit because it caps at 1596 mhz on air cool and hybrid. DonDeKuch

DonDeKuch Yes make sure you tape of the metal part of the shroud. This is how EVGA taped of the shroud (the black tape). Can't upload the image so just use the links, they are safe. ibb.co/mLUwvz ibb.co/jMoOaz ibb.co/bLAQoK

Mine already has that tape on it and I got this kit months ago. So not really sure what this new batch of hybrid kit really fixed.

I just finished installing my Hybrid kit onto my FTW3 and I'm happy to share a positive result. This thread has been very helpful and I want to thank everyone who shared their experience as well as their questions which for the most part, lead to answers or at least a discussion. I have to admit I was a bit hesitant to install the kit for obvious reasons, but decided to do it today. So far so good. To whoever is reading this, hopefully you get something helpful out of it just as I did reading through this thread. I ordered my kit (400-HY-5659-B1) from Amazon on July 18th, received it on the 20th, and installed it on August 25th. The kit I received did have the electrical tape, and the metal grate was secured onto the shroud out of the box (did not have to mess with it at all). I literally followed each step straight from the instructional poster EVGA provides in the box. Literally. Step. By. Step. I personally didn't have a problem with how EVGA put the instructions together, but it's probably because I had this thread to go along with it. Interestingly enough, I was left with a few extra screws which included a baggy of four M2.5*5s that I did not even touch. Nowhere in the instructions did it say they were needed, which had me a little worried. I read the instructions over a few more times and traced my steps to make sure I didn't miss anything. My clocks and temps are fine so I'm not worried about it much anymore. If anyone knows why they were included with the kit let me know! I mounted the radiator at the rear of my case and replaced the EVGA fan with a Corsair LL120. If you decide to use a fan other than EVGA's stock radiator fan, you more than likely will be connecting it directly onto your motherboard as it probably won't fit into the kit's header. Better off hooking it up onto the motherboard anyway. After that, it's plug and play. I didn't change anything. Not the settings, not the drivers, not the bios. Keep in mind the FTW3 + FTW3 Hybrid Kit runs perfectly fine on the OG FTW3 bios. No need to flash anything unless you want XOC to read it as an actual FTW3 Hybrid card. I left mine as is and it's working perfect. Just remember that the Power fan control is what controls the speed of the kit's single fan. Ran PUBG for about an hour and my temps are pretty solid. Before kit: ~74C max @ ~65F ambient (1hr + gameplay) After kit: ~64C max @ ~65F ambient ( ~1hr gameplay) Clocks are normal. Nothing crazy. Temps are though . Gonna OC a bit when I get the chance. As for right now, add another successful kit install to the underwhelmingly few who have done it. Sorry to all who have ran into issues with the kit, but it does work... I honestly decided to install the kit assuming that I'm going to mess my card up, which is kind of sad. Considering myself lucky. If you bought the kit I say just go for it. EVGA has your back regardless. If you're thinking about getting it, it still is a risk at this point. It's well worth it if it ends up working though!

Before kit: ~74C max @ ~65F ambient (1hr+ gameplay) After kit: ~64C max @ ~65F ambient (~1hr gameplay) Clocks are normal.
Hi. I think something is wrong with the temperatures you have. 64 degrees Celsius are what I have before the kit. After the kit you should have 50 or less. I am in the middle of installing the kit and I play pubg too. I will update my results shortly. Regards

I installed my kit last week, it is well worth it. Haven't seen temp go past 48c yet. Now I think I have a small RGB/precisionX issue. I have it installed on an ftw3. One thing I noticed is, first I had the card installed without the plastic shroud just to test it, and it worked great, in fact precision xoc was giving me all 3 temps still (gpu, mem, power), and three fan curves were still appearing in the program even though that's the old shroud, no problem. So I shutdown the pc, remove the card, install the new hybrid shroud. It works the same, except Precision hides power + mem temps, and only shows one fan (okay the fan bit makes sense, but losing the temps (in exchange for RGB?) seems silly since the probes are available. And lastly, does the ftw3 hybrid kit only give white led? Are the "G,P,M," markings supposed to light up, like they do on the original ftw3 shroud? I'm real hesitant to open it up and check the plugs etc, because it's working so well and I'm tired of tinkering with it already. I don't even have a windowed PC case! It's just a peace of mind issue.

That would be nice if my temps could be better! My fans are definitely not optimized. I have an Asus Maximus X Hero (WiFi) and AI Suite III / Q-Fan control never seemed to work properly. I've been using the default speed options in AI Suite to control my top and rear fans. Lazy I know. There's also some swishing noises coming from the AIO rad that I was hoping would go away by today. Most likely some air pockets I'm going to have to get rid of. My setup: NZXT s340 Elite Asus Maximus X Hero (WiFi) EVGA 140mm (mounted on front CLC rad) x2 Corsair LL120 (top fan) Corsair LL120 (mounted on rear Hybrid rad) *Hybrid radiator tubes are oriented at the top Currently idling at 25C. Ambient is ~69F.

That product code doesnt tell you anything. It's the same for all hybrid kits for the ftw3 Still have no idea what the issue is with the hybrid kit.

Change that. The tubes should be at the bottom so any air is trapped at the top of the radiator. There's always going to be air in the system. So if at all possible, have the rad above the GPU with the hoses on the bottom.

I just saw this thread as I created my other thread for the exact same issue. short story is I bought a hybrid kit installed it and noticed poor performance when i tried to load up benchmark tests. I then saw that the metal part of the shroud wasn't connected to the rest of the shroud. I removed the shroud, tested without the shroud and it is locked at I believe 1559 mhz (I'm away from computer and at work). Is my card broken because of this hybrid kit or is there a way to fix this? any help is great. Thanks.
