For future proofing I suggest using an approved 1.4 DP cable

there is no such thing as this or that type cable. its just cable whether you bought it today of 15 years ago its just an electrical signal to your monitor to tell it what it needs to display. with this being said you are limited to what your monitor can do. mine for example is a TV in which I am stuck at 56hz which is fine for me as I don't hardcore game that requires a 240hz monitor.

a good teacher will not give you the answer you seek, they will help you learn as to why you had that problem and will guide you to the solution that works for it so you can pass the knowledge on.

You do not need an expensive DP cable   You DO Need a Certified cable

1.4 cables are backwards compatible with 1.2 devices.

Exactly what I was going to recommend.  Newer cables are almost always backward compatible, so get that.

Yes and as suggested above get a certified cable. Otherwise you're stuck with a cheap quality cable which may not work well.

Now days the cables are being made to be more and more universally backwards compatible so think of it more like USB.
