This is from other posts/forums; I haven't verified for accuracy:

Coolermaster HAF 932

Mountain Mod Cases:
Ascension
Extended Ascension
U2-UFO
Extended U2-UFO
Pinnacle 18
Pinnacle 24

There are a couple more that have been mentioned (I think a Lian-Li one?) but I didn't jot them down.

An official list of cases that fit would be a nice addition to the FAQ.

Pretty much the same list as for the x58 4-Way Classified. Only thing to figure out is which ones will have the right size mobo tray, none ATM. MM is definitely working on theirs and I sure others are too.

My Test was Prime 95 22 threads and 3D SLI tests on 2 dedicated threads. Taking close to the peak values seen.

You should try Furmark to see how high you can get it to go

How many PSU's are you using? Two or three?

ONE, as for which one, I am not allowed to speak of it yet

Are you allowed to give us a hint as to who the manufacturer is?

Now I see why you were being so quiet on the issue. EVGA 1200W PSU (1500W+ peak). What's next? EVGA 1500W PSU (peak 2000W+)?

Seems they timed the release date to match the new Gulftown CPU; I'm not surprised.

I wont ruin the surprise, I'll let you look at the price.

This are the Nehalems - old news (wonder why only two of them are listed in CPU support sheet). Don't think anybody will pay a thau or two for these if they can get Westmeres - hopefully for the same price or at least very close.

Im glad this Board was brought to my attention.
I was not aware of this board and was in the process of getting critiques on a TYAN setup with (2) quad Nahalem cpu's as a Rendernode.
Looks like I can make this a workstation over a X58 build as a workstation.
Thank you EVGA I love you!
Resetting my options.

@ ag111ga :

Think you will have to wait a little for the Westmeres :
http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Intel-Xeon-E5620-S-1366-Westmere-Quad-Core-240GHz-586GT-s-QPI-12MB-Cache-80W-Retail
But it looks like they will only cost you ca. 50 USD (200-300 DKK) more than the nethalems so interesting:  (you could easyly earn that in with our current Power cost)
http://www.komplett.dk/k/ki.aspx?sku=486176

@EVGA:
Kudos for making such a insane MB :))) seriusly considering to get one.
And why should anyone consider to build a PC with one of these ?
Because you can !!!

Since it wasn't listed, I am guessing the RAID modes will be 0/1 over the eSATA & SATA3 controllers, and 0/1/5/10 (and maybe 50, but not 6) on the main ports.  Close?

Will the EVGA PSU have enough output and cables to power two W5680s and four GTX480s?

Motherboard will ship with typical 1366 Xeon socket back-plates but normal X58 socket back-plates will be bundled in package

Does this mean you can use normal LGA1366 coolers like Noctua NH-U12P SE2 or Noctua NH-D14?

Im seriously considering this board for a workstation build, am i correct in thinking this will happily run 2x Xeon 5620's and OC to 4ghz?

£2000 should be enough for 1 GPU system build im guessing?

You mean DDR3 2000+  (unbuffered) or will 1600 be ok?

I have no experience with 1366 yet as im still running the Skulltrial.

depends how hard you want your OC to go, 4 GHz on the cpu sounds rather relaxed of a OC on this this CPU,  I would read up on shamino posts and his blk efforts, and what he reaches on what level, then decide on ram, for now you can get hold of the CPUs if you want. Its still early days this, and I believe "without knowing", they are tuning the bios before they launch the card to us.

You can run different models of Dual QPI Xeon together – such as 5520 + 5540, even Quad Core + Hexa Core together – but must be from same family – ie, NO for Westmere + Nehalem – Performance scaling is fine

You can run turbo mode on one CPU and non Turbo Mode on the other too

You can run a single CPU (Must be Dual QPI) in any one of the 2 sockets

You can run Non ECC normal DRAMs but also ECC Rams too

These are some great features!

Does the board support VT-D?
(And properly support it.. not like Asus boards which claim to support it but in fact don't due to unresolved bios bugs)

@rkagerer:

I think about the ASUS Z8PE-D18 mainboard and this board support VT-D since BIOS version 0404 (first of august 2009).

So it should be possible to use it. :)

Yes it does. At least I saw VT-D in the CPU features section of the BIOS and I had a smile when I saw that :-)

I know  this questions has already been asked, but didn't really understood the answer. Is it possible to install only 1 CPU (yes, i know) and only 3 RAM Sticks next to the installed CPU, and leave the 2. socket+it's DIMMs empty? Or do I at least have to install 1 RAM Stick in every sockets DIMM?

Re:Upcoming EVGA W555 FAQ 2010/08/09 00:21:17 (permalink)

Few Questions:

1) What cases does this motherboard properly fit in to without any modding (I can not get Mountain Mod cases here in Australia),
2) If we use ECC Registered DDR3 and are not overclocking (this is for a workstation build) can we have more than 48GB DDR3? (as in 8GB Sticks of DDR3 ECC Registered)?

3) What PSU recommended for 2x 2.9Gighz hex cores, 4-6 SATA hdds, and 1 workstation graphics card?

4) What coolers are supported (would prefer a Noctua cooler) without any additional parts being needed to purchase (no extra modding etc)?

Re:Upcoming EVGA W555 FAQ 2010/08/09 10:43:59 (permalink)
1) The Lian-Li PC-P80 supports it.  Here is the list of compatible cases.

http://forums.evga.com/tm.aspx?m=238992

3) Oh you won't need too much, a high end 850W would be plenty, providing lots of headroom.  I recommend getting the new Corsair AX850 if you can, if not then you should settle for the HX850 or XFX Black Edition 850W.

4) As far as I know, any LGA 1366 coolers will be fine as long as they're not huge like the Noctua NH-D14.  The NH-U12P should fit fine, but this cooler is pretty much inferior these days due to its relatively low fin surface area and heat pipe count compared to its competitors.  Go for two Cooler Master V6 GT coolers, it actually performs on par with the Noctua NH-D14 under very heavy loads.

The Lian-Li PC-P80 case works fine (I live in NZ, and got mine locally).  The only "mod" required is to use a few adhesive plastic standoffs, which are included with the SR-2.  See my build log for details:

2) If we use ECC Registered DDR3 and are not overclocking (this is for a workstation build) can we have more than 48GB DDR3? (as in 8GB Sticks of DDR3 ECC Registered)?

I haven't tried this myself yet, but fitseries3 has, and claims that it works. There's a thread somewhere on this forum where he discusses it.

3dgeo
3) What PSU recommended for 2x 2.9Gighz hex cores, 4-6 SATA hdds, and 1 workstation graphics card?

I'm using the Enermax Galaxy Evo 1250W. Probably a bit more wattage than you need (it actually puts out closer to 1400W on 240V), but it's efficient, fully modular, includes all of the cables you need, and has a nice, quiet 14cm fan to keep it cool and to help maximize how long it lasts.  Also, a little extra power is a good thing on this board, particularly if you're planning any OCing.
3dgeo
4) What coolers are supported (would prefer a Noctua cooler) without any additional parts being needed to purchase (no extra modding etc)?

Most any socket 1366 Xeon-compatible cooler should work.  I'm using the Noctua UH-9X 1366 (there are two models of the UH-9X; be sure to get the 1366 version) with an extra fan, and have been pretty happy with it so far.  The fan clips overhang the first RAM socket a bit, but it's a minor thing.  FWIW, I would stay away from the super-huge heatsinks in a vertical mount case. Some of them weigh in at a kilogram or more, which can be quite a strain on the motherboard. One reason I chose the UH-9X is that it only weighs about half of what the larger ones do.
