Hello all, I dual boot windows 7 and 11 and I recently upgraded to a rtx 3080 from a 3070. The 3070 worked perfectly on 7 and 11 and had 0 issues installing, the 3080 however won't even try to install the drivers. Here is what I have tried; installing geforce experience and installing the drivers from there; results in the message that my version of windows is not supported. Installing the drivers (both new and old versions of them) from the nvidia and evga website; gives me the errors my version of windows is not compatible and that no supported hardware was found. Manually installing the drivers from device manager; says my version of windows is not supported. I have made sure that I downloaded the windows 7 64 bit version of the drivers, however the result is the same.
 
On my install of windows 11 the card works perfectly. Any help would be appreciated to attempt and resolve this issue

Yup, still no change. What I find odd is the gpu shows up as "Standard VGA graphics driver" in device manager

Unfortunately, if I do that it instantly reinstalls itself as soon as windows boots again

I checked and I am running service pack 1, and I did run ddu beforehand. I'll have to check if I can install service pack 2 or not

Yup, its a 12gb. Hm, im not sure what I would do then. I may be able to return it and get a 10gb model, unless the 3080 ti drivers work on windows 7 and its supported

I'll check their sites. If that doesn't work, what should I add to the files to possibky make the 12gb card work? I know I would need to extract the exe files to get all the drivers and whatnot, but I don't know what to add or how to do it

Update to Windows 10? Unless you have some mission critical software that will not run on Windows 10....

Both Asus and gigabyte list driver version 466.63 as supporting the 12gb card and 7 so maybe try those drivers?


Do you have a link for them? I cannot seem to find the drivers for w7 on either of their sites.

All dGPU drivers are issued by Nvidia. All the AIB partners websites do is rehost or link to them, just like EVGA does. They do not make drivers for dGPUs. The exception to that can be some notebook makers who add their own proprietary features.
This is the latest Windows 7 driver for the RTX 3000 series.

Is W7 even supported anymore?
When you have to start mucking around w Drivers and no more official support from MS anymore its time to move on....XP was pretty good as well ;)
Why not dual boot W10 and W11......can remember when I ditched W7...a very long time ago for sure.....dont think I ran it om my Z390 system.

Up until I upgraded my gpu, every single game and program I have used has worked on it flawlessly. not going to 10 because its ugly, slow, and bloated with ads. plus no point dual booting it when 10 and 11 are basically the same. The main reasons I still use it are because I have specific programs that completely refuse to run on 10/11 even in compatibility mode. Regardless, if I can't get it working I'll likely end up returning the card and swapping it with a 10gb model

Clean install W10 = no bloatware
W7 release date (I knew it was a very long time ago) Oct 2009.....zoiks...13 yrs ago ;)
 
We were still sporting GTX 280's or 9800GTX's....GTX480 (which I had SLi) wasnt released until 2010....

Look into W10E LTSC, either 1809 or 21H2.  It's still W10 but very stripped down and fully unlocked as far as tweaking.  I've been on 1809 for about 3 years or so, need to get around to updating to 21H2.  I did not want to move away from W7 either....or XP.

If the above driver doesn't work try using this modded .inf file I just edited...
 
 
 
Place the file in the C:\NVIDIA\DisplayDriver\466.63\Win8_Win7_64\International\Display.Driver folder, and overwrite the existing one.
 
To use the modded .inf file , right click your card inside the device manager, select properties, select driver menu, select update driver, select browser my computer for drivers, select let me pick from a list of available drivers on my computer, select have disk, select browse, select the modded .inf file and load it, confirm any security warnings, profit hopefully.
 
 
Note: Last time I tried to do this it didn't work because I believe nvidia has changed something that prevents people from doing inf mods, but doesn't hurt to give it another shot.
 

Hello, sorry for my late response. Unfortunately, that mod does not work. It allows me to install the drivers, and if I go into device manager it does show it as an rtx 3080, but as soon as I reboot the pc normally it goes to the "starting windows" screen then goes black. Booting into safe mode shows it as a 3080 as well. Im assuming this is nvidia stopping people from doing the inf mods, correct?
