I did the razor thing (GPU atm is up and running since I had to get it running asap for a thing, so will check that too but later), that said, the way you described it, theres lots of light going through the razor. Some parts have no light , but most have small amount or quite a lot of light coming through them. Guess that means the WB is not great?

Spread it again actually, here is a photo of what I did:https://i.imgur.com/zwyv7KH.jpg (quick assembly before I did it properly, was to check if the spread is OK, one of the screws wasn't fully mounted so the contact is even better with my current mount). That is the AIO ofc. Temps are slightly better than the 360 rad too, GPU die (on oled) doesn't go above 50C and GPU doesn't go above 45C (push pull at 1200rpm). Usually its below 41C in most cases (room temp 22C).

I just wish the block spread the way its supposed to, just like the AIO does... I already RMAd it 2x (3rd block) because first two had really badly broken off OLED (this one not so much, was easy to fix with m3x8 screw)

Yeah see that had a real good tim spread there, thats the same way the water block should spread out. So sorry for all the trouble your having though.

Seems like thats just my luck *shrugs*. Well as long as its just the block (which they can still RMA afaik, got a few more blocks left for RMA) and not the card, thats kind of OK even though I will have to wait another week or two.

Could do what Kingpin does with his cpu lapping. Leaves a ruff surface on the CPU so it can hold the thermal compound better. He dont shine them to a mirror finish for that reason.. but he has said at sub zero temps a ruff surface don't matter.

Maybe the surface of the aio contact is ruffer then the hydro block.

Might void warranty.. no idea if sanding just enough to ruff the surface of the block would count as damage or not.

Would totally do that but pretty sure it voids warranty and since the WB are not available for purchase anymore... Don't want to risk it until I try an RMA.

I didnt use the bracket on the kingpin. Also TiN (the kingin designer didnt use the bracket stating he didnt see what the point of the bracket was for.

Try it again without the bracket.

I get 32-34c durring benchmarks.

Vertical mounted as well.

Do you have a link for where TiN said that? What is your ambient temps when you got those temps? How long from a cold boot-up were you when those benchmarks were done?

It was a YouTube video where he was lapping a intel cpu with a guy thet has a YouTube show.

72f.. max room temp as it's usually 64-68f in the basement.

PC ran all night and day long before that.. I tested after many reboots from updating drivers and stuff. Did many bench runs and temps were the same.

I'm guessing it was the Gamers Nexus one when they visited TiN and Kingpin in the OC lab.

Just to say you get "32-34 C while running benchmarks" is kind of loaded. Benchmarks don't run that long and your ambient temps are pretty low as far as normal room temps go.

Interesting about the square thing though. I never figured out its purpose. It seems an odd design choice not to just use the mounting holes in the PCB that it occupies for the Hydro Copper block.

Yeah the gpu bracket all i can see that it would do is keep the pcb from flexing much when the down pressure is applied to the die. But since it comes with all of the hydro coppers i have used it every time without any issues.

I'll have to load up the new cod mw and give it a go for the first time and see what those temps are after an hour and let you know.

Though the room temp of 72f durring the other benches seems pretty average I would think.

How are you taking your ambient temps? Do you have temps sensors on the intake of your radiators?

I find it odd that the only two people who have ever reported good temps with the Hydro Copper KPE block didn't follow the instructions and use the square thingy. ;)

Naw I got a digital thermometer in the basement next to my monitor.. still shows 72f. Temp never went higher then 33c. Mostly 32c. That's overclocked to 2205 and held the whole almost 2 hours of gaming.

Guess my big old water cooling setup works pretty good hehe.

I basically built it tested it many months ago and moved on to other hobbies.

Whoa there... thats one hell of an impressive setup lol... so much rad estate. *drools*

Also, I disassembled the card again to check if its flat with the razor.... well seems really flat-ish, same for the AIO unlike the WB that has so much light. Spread was even better than that photo I took before.

Thx.. only took me like a month to figure out how I was going to mod the case to fit 4 rads.. ended up with room for 5 so went with it hehe.

2x 360, 2x 480 and 1 520 rad. All have push/pull fans except the 520. I have a blue ray burner on that 520 rad for the moment to burn some crap then I'll take it off. Dual d5 pumps x2.

Ok just ran firestrike extreme right now at 2205mhz 1.93v.

Water in and out both max at 21c. Min was 20c.

GPU temps were min 23c and max 32 with 26c average.

Room temp at 68c currently and the whole time.

I'll watch the water temps during an hour or gaming.

Edit: didnt get to play much. 40 mins maybe?? Anyways. Room temps raised to 70f and the water temps were both 22c max. And card temp still maxed out at 32c.

Thats really good temps... damn. Really jealous lol. Also, water temps ~2C above room temp sounds about right with all those rads if you only have one GPU and a CPU.

I dont even think it was more then 1 gallon of distilled water and coolant mix. :) Maybe 1 and a quarter gallon at most. Was tiring though to have to keep filling the 2 res over and over.

Well good news is, GPU is on the way to EVGA RMA and considering my lucky streak and it being and RMA within a month, they will refund my shipping so thats really neat (and unexpected). Now to wait and hope that the next block is going to be OK and no OLED problems or mainly mounting (spread) and block itself lol.

Good luck! Make sure to check how flat the surface is before installing it so ya know. Light may pass cause of the non mirror finish.. most check if the razor can rock side to side.

I just ran through this process on my reference RTX 2080 Ti. I went with the EK Vector block for mine... starting off in benchmarks i'll get low 40's and after about a hour of gaming and running some more benchmarks I saw it break into the 50's a bit. I'm running 2 rads, a 240 and a 280. Seems like more than enough so far. The whole process was soooo stressful though, got a lot of money locked up in this stuff. It's also really hard not to get impatient when adding and removing that block, just gotta make sure not to break anything. Hope this RMA works out for ya man.
