If she's climbing temps after that long the room temp must be going up from the heat.

Seems like kingpin is back in stock in some EU stores (one of the stores I bought from as well), gives me hope that if its not only the WB issue that I can have my kingpin changed up lol... I really hope its not since it can do 1500 mem for benchmarks and 2205 core (with AIO, so temps around 38-40C for benchmarks) so its not bad at all, would suck to get a worse model.

Mine games at 2130Mhz, I can only get above 2200 when I add voltage with the classified tool.

Prob px1 that your using isint giving you the proper voltage to go higher.

What voltage are you using to get 2200?

Px1 wont use max normal voltage of 1.093v for me. It tried 1.05v.

I use afterburner to lock 1.093v with the curve method.

Re: KINGPIN Waterblock temps 2019/11/21 07:54:28 (permalink)
My WB came in today which is neat... seems like EVGA pre-opened it and stuffed more packaging material in the WB (yeah, inside the bubble wrap package) so the oled came intact. This was the mount first try on die: https://i.imgur.com/A21m14B.jpg and on WB: https://i.imgur.com/ovTk9nX.jpg

What worries me is that it was mostly stuck on the WB and didn't get squeezed out nearly as much as the AIO. That said, at least it seems like it has contact unlike previously where most of it was untouched.

That's much better than what you was getting for a spread pattern. I have also found that after using the card a couple days it helps to retighten the screws and you will find they have loosened up after the thermal pads have warmed up and let everything seat better

Didn't get to test it enough yet but I will have to attempt a remount it seems.... if that does not work properly then my luck is abysmal because it will be defo the kingpin that has convex die... this really sucks. So far gpu sits 10C below GPU die (which was only 5C difference in the morning when I installed it)

That's what's your basing the problematic mount on that the GPU temp is much higher then the gpu die temp? Does anyone know what the difference of the 2 is or where the sensors are located for the GPU temp?

Just searching threw my phone pics I found one screen shot with a 8c difference with the GPU 2 temp 8c higher then the GPU 1 temp on load.. if that's what your talking about. That was for my former 2080ti ftw3 on water.

Re: KINGPIN Waterblock temps 2019/11/21 16:58:57 (permalink)
Other way around gpu die temp being a lot higher. On my AIO its always 9-10C but now its anywhere from 6C if gpu temp is on the lower side (gpu temps 38C vs gpu die 46C) or even 12C if gpu goes to 44C (gpu die 56-57). Need more time using it before i will know of its just the way the WB is or bad mount. This is how it began with my last WB too before after few hours of usage the gpu die went to 70C vs 50C on GPU. Gpu and gpu2 is within 3C tho. Kingpin has an extra gpu temp (gpu die) that you can enable on the oled. Its what made me take the gpu apart with the prev. WB and thats basically how I found out the spread does not exist.

I can't remember which way my temps were but seems like in px1 the gpu2 temp is always about 6-7C higher than gpu1 temp

Re: KINGPIN Waterblock temps 2019/11/21 18:48:19 (permalink)
Yeah the GPU2 temp is all fine actually. You know you can turn on GPU Die Temp in the oled monitoring when  you go all the way down, its before last one. Anyway, that one usually shows 6-12C higher temps which is scary because like I said, my AIO has 10C difference between that and normal GPU temp and my old WB went from 4C difference to eventually 20C difference to GPU being 52C and GPU DIE temp on oled 82C (that was my max, I shut it off right there because I started to get weird GPU glitches and black flashes). With AIO that never, ever happens, with WB when it works and the GPU Die temp on oled is below 80C it never, ever happens so I am just worried I got a hotspot again because of bad mount = remounting will fix it or I find out that I am just unlucky as heck lol.
Thanks to those weird glitches and the GPU DIE TEMP on oled that you can turn on hitting over 70C (82C if it was correct that one time where those glitches happened) I found out that the contact between my WB and Die was not great and it wasn't spreading at all. But that said, only had it run under load for 3-4 hours so far so I need to do at least 8-12 like last time (thats when the temps started going haywire as I wrote much earlier with previous WB)

update: aaaaaaand my temps started to go to hell... slowly climbing to 50C on gpu and over 65C on GPU DIE temp... time to remount in a few hours and pray its just me fluffing up the mount.

What goop and can you just do a line of goop down the middle about pea width and let the block squish it for good contact?

Maybe spreading it is causing air bubbles.

CPU socket is always higher than the CPU cores so I think that's similarly here.

So, I took it apart just now and this is how it looks like: https://i.imgur.com/WXIb1Zq.jpg , https://i.imgur.com/QWJBqdz.jpg

It yet again migrated down (vertical mount), so as per suggestion I did what I usually do which is an X (tends to work better for me than blob, used to do it before spreading). Screwed it down as much as it let me etc. Time to test and see how that ends up.

GPU temp is 44C, GPU2 temp is 46C and OLED extra Gpu die temp is 47C . Been running a game for past 30min and temps are this high. 21.5C room temp. 100% usage. Best temps I had so far especially at this room temp (similar to AIO on GPU but everything else is a lot better).

There's just no way that's acceptable for the thermal paste to run off like that, what are you using?

Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut, I use it everywhere, even on the AIO (which I also use vertically) and this is the only time where I have problems with it.

Yep, only hydrocopper does that, everything else has really, really good spread (like I said before, even the AIO). I use it on my CPU as well, never migrates down. Only HC does it it seems.

yeah the screws won't let me go further even, thats the thing I go as much as they let me without stripping them lol. Which is what just makes it so weird, but the spread is much, much better than the first WB so I either fluffed up on the mount the first time around (when actually using it), OR like I said I have the worst luck and its not WB this time but its just the GPU.......

Scuff up the die contact on the copper block with some fine sandpaper. Then the goop has something to grip and hold.

Basically dulling the surface.

No idea if that would void warranty but I'd be desperate enough by now to try.

Could prob buff it back to a shiny surface if needed.

Using the GPU bracket? That would help stiffen the pcb around the die to get a stronger contact with the block.

Also make sure the bracket isint making contact. If you can loosen the screws to the bracket while the block is still on to see if the bracket can freely move around while the block is on.

I remember some having issues with the ftw3 copper block bracket as evga supplied longer screws for the bracket that protruded the bracket mounts and hit the block.

Or maybe they used the wrong screws.

If you try again.. this time insted of totally cleaning the contact on the block, rub it in and wipe off all the excess. It will allow some of the goop to fill in tiny gaps in the copper surface that may help just hold the next layer of goop maybe.

Other then that maybe try mounting the block without pads. Maybe just to see how different the spread pattern it. Then that may tell you maybe you need thinner thermal pads.

The screws that come with it are the same as the original ones so that shouldn't be it and I thought he was using the GPU bracket as I always have without issues.

Got the weekend ahead so if this mount does not hold, I will defo try without bracket and see how that goes and then the thermal pads too. This is insane tho, my sanity is slowly dwindling into nothingness from this lol
