Mine came in yesterday along with the block.
Easiest GPU block I've installed to date.

Is there a Water Block thats not easy to install?? Im thinking of picking up 2 of these Cards and throwing some EK Blocks on em :)

Nice, how does it perform? I was tempting to get it as well. Quite hate the noise on those 2 fans

Well, I should have said fastest, instead of easiest. The pre applied thermal pads saved a lot of time.

As far as performance goes I haven't tested it yet. I was waiting on a new CPU block before taking my current loop down to swap cards.

As we're talking about cooling solutions, does anyone know the approximate temperature at which performance will begin to be reduced for this card? Or is it even true that this occurs?

I had always assumed that a GPU would operate at normal (maximum) clock speeds as long as temperatures were within normal operating parameters. I was stunned when I read not long ago that for years my GPUs may have been delivering compromised framerates while gaming even though temperatures were always well under the thermal limit.

Anyone else getting random GPU usage drops and clocks lowering when they shouldn't be in demanding games on their 2080 Ti Blacks? Mine has been fine until last night. Tried Subnautica, GTA V, and BF V. Really weird and not sure how to troubleshoot such a random problem?

My only complaint about the 2080ti black is the hdmi port is super loose. Anyone else have that problem? The hdmi cable doesnt go deep enough to hold still.

I just got my 2080 Ti Black and tried the scan function of Precision X1 (stock cooler and stock settings) and I got a score of +179. I'm quite happy as I it gives me a better boost clock  than the Founder Edition for cheaper (got my card for about $970 without VAT).
I tried to inscrease the power target to 112% as well as the speed fan, but I got similar results. I might need to increase the voltage of the GPU, but I'm not sure if I should do it.
Similarly, I don't know if I should try to overclock the memory, does it worth it ?

OC scanner is more conservative in my experience i landed at 162mhz but i push 250/1100 in my offsets and run just fine. This card truly guts the value of other cards costing hundreds more imho.

I did 3 hours of stress testing and ran a final 3DMark timespy for 15,600 gpu score.

12,000ish~ is where a good 2080 lands for ref. And stock clocked black iwas barely over 12.5k. for graphics score so if your 2080ti hits above this 15k threshold i think you're good lol.

For those that have this card under water how is it? Im hoping to catch one this week as I now have the funds to get one

Love them.  I've been running them in SLI @ 180/1000 for a few weeks now almost 100% stable.  Firestrike Ultra @ 15187 saw max temps right @ 50C.

I can push +179mhz Core Clock & +450 MHZ memory clock on afterburner stable with my 2080ti black. With that OC it Boosts to max 1958mhz. But consistently stays around 1805-1850mhz. The problem is the power limit and stock cooler. It keeps holding it back. I could see this thing going 2000mhz+ with a better bios. At the OC I mentioned the card temp never goes above 72c.

The only crashing I've seen so far is Hitman 2 in Non-HDR. Will consistently crash. But if I turn HDR ON it doesn't crash. So makes me think it is more of a driver issue.

From what I've read, if you go with EK blocks, EVGA's NVLink will not fit without cutting it.

That's good to hear.

Did you use the stock settings (and cooler) or did you have to increase the power target, voltage or fan speed?

Edit: What I found weird is as the scan gave me +179, so I added +180 (I like round numbers) for the GPU clock, but when I check the frequencies in the hardware monitor, it says 2055 Mhz at full load (max: 2085) :O
Shouldn't the max be 1725 Mhz (1545 + 180) ?
Can those figures be trusted ?

So far on water its been great.   I'm running a single 360 55mm rad with push fans only. cooling the i9 9900k and the 2080ti black the gpu hits 40 to 45c,  and cpu stays around 50c.
quite happy with the results.

I know its not as elaborate as some of the other builds I have seen but still pleased with the results.

Out of the box any speed over the rated boost speed relies on GPU Boost (4.0 for RTX cards). GPU Boost factors things like temps, power limits and a hand full of other metrics to boost the speeds. In most cases, Temperature and Power limits are going to be the biggest factor.

On my personal 2080 I was boosting around 1860mhz with the card around around 75c on the stock cooler (ITX case). Installing the Hybrid kit dropped the temps to around 55c and clock speeds boosted to around 1980mhz. You can override this to a point with manual overclocking, but higher temps will lower the clock speed.

Thanks for noticing my question!

I was referring to stock settings, and all GPUs in general (or at least NVIDIA). I wanted to make sure I understand this correctly. What I have read recently seemed to indicate that, as a card's temperature increases--even if it is under the max temperature rating for a particular card--that throttling can occur. But I just assumed that, if e.g. a stock card is 1500 MHz, it would always run at 1500 Mhz as long as the card's temperature was within the rated operating range.

Or, i.e., if a card's thermal limit is 83 C, I just always assumed that it would operate at it's maximum stock speed and performance even if the temperature was 75 C or 81 C.

As I said, it had never even occurred to me that this could happen, which is why I want to make sure I didn't misunderstand something that I read. Because if a GPU can suffer reduced performance at increasing temperatures even when under the thermal limit, there is obviously a benefit to keeping it as cool as possible.

With oc scanner, I got 161mhz,manual push it to 200/800, good 3dmark score but frequent crash in game, drop it to 161 and problem solved. Should I increase the voltage?

I got my 2080 Ti Black in the other day and put a waterblock on her.

In the Scan I got +205 which is nice. I do get frequent crashes in BFV but I think it might be the game possibly. When I give it a modest overclock the crashes stop.

Sweet spot atleast in that game is somewhere inbetween +150 and +175 not sure about memory.

Sadly I found out power limit is 112% and other cards I hear can reach 130%

I have a black with an EK block on it. I haven't OC'd it because the card is self boosting itself to 2k which seems fine enough to me. I originally had a Hydro Copper block from EVGA. I was getting crashes nonstop under load. They told me I had a bad block and that I should send it back. I don't understand how a waterblock can cause things to crash. I literally replaced almost every component in my computer thinking it was anything other than a waterblock. Haven't had a crash since I swapped to the EK block. Temps are better now as well. Card caps out at 50, CPU hit's 70's at 5.2ghz (9900k). Overall, I'm satisfied with the black, it's cheaper than any other card and clocks almost as well. Don't see much of a point in getting anything else, maybe if you are obsessed with benchmark scores? Pretty lame EVGA increased the price to 1099. Glad I got mine at 999.

Is it normal for the Power Target to jump around like crazy and same for clock. This card is so weird compared to the 1080 ti I had. When I overclocked my 1080 ti it would stay at one clock speed and power was consistent. This thing is all over the place I dont know if it is working right. Anyone else getting this? I can make a video and share what I am seeing.

I stopped using precision X1 since the OSD is very finicky and only works 50% of the time.
Afterburner has been working good though. At least for me.

So I did this already installed Afterburner and I cannot see power target or voltage on the card so I cannot compare that. The clock frequency fluctuates just the same but oddly enough I only put 100+ on the core compared to 200+ in evga software. It is just strange to me because when in game I am used to seeing max power target and voltage throughout the game and a somewhat consistent clock. My clocks go from ingame 1740-1950-2055 at the highest.

It is not a temperature limit my card never exceeds 65, it is on ekwb.

I have tried different PSU cables since I was using cablemod extensions and no difference.
I am using a PCIE extender from Thermaltake but I am about to test today to see what happens when plugged directly into the motherboard.

Does anyone see this result? Is this normal for you all while gaming to fluctuate so much?

Also guys here is some more evidence

Firestrike score at stock.
https://www.3dmark.com/3dm/32756816?
Unfortunately they dont monitor gpu frequency in that test so I cannot tell if fluctuation is happening there.

Here is video with BFV gameplay. (sorry I sucked in test wasn't paying attention)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iviJeYLLPDw&feature=youtu.be

Does anyone else get these sporatic drops in power target %, voltage, and clock speed?

Thanks,

hey man not to beat a horse to death … because I like animal's lol.
I am telling you your card is broke  (most likely not) or you did not uninstall precision like I suggested..
also uninstall you drivers usually I don't need DDU driver uninstall but I would if I was having that problem.. then reinstall drivers go into nvidia control panel also and select 3d settings and scroll down to power and put on performance look on bottom click apply ..
msi after burner  4.6.0 beta 10 works with turning.. up your pl to the 112 you can also go into settings and select monitoring and you can have core clock fps everything show up gaming or minimize the game and keep after burner open

Unfortunately they dont monitor gpu frequency in that test so I cannot tell if fluctuation is happening there.

Here is video with BFV gameplay. (sorry I sucked in test wasn't paying attention)

Does anyone else get these sporatic drops in power target %, voltage, and clock speed?

Thanks,

Ok man give me some time to do all your suggestions and make another video. I have done all these things already but I am going to do it again for good measure.

I installed 4.5.0 afterburner and it performed the same way and did not show voltage or power limit so we will see if your claim that 4.6.0 beta does.

Either way thanks for your suggestions and feedback thus far.

I am having the same problem as warpedkid11 with my 2080 Ti Black. When I first got it clocks were consistently at 2025 during gaming but now the clocks are jumping around like crazy for no reason. Even if I set to max performance in Nvidia control panel they will jump around like crazy. I have never installed Precision, only Afterburner.

Are our cards bad?

I can be playing Subnautica and it will drop down to 1530 MHz in my base when it used to run at 2025, but if I hit the escape button and bring up the in game menu it will rocket back to 2025 and stay there and then when I close the in game menu it will drop back down to 1500s. Something is definitely going on and this is not right/frustrating. It will do this even when I force max performance mode in Nvidia control panel.
