Follow up for my own troubleshooting of the issue. Thanks to users like K1mac and penguinnss I've also isolated the ringing to fan #3. I found out I was using an incompatible version of Precision X1 because I was using the version provided by Steam which is 1.0.7. For 30 series cards you need 1.1.0 either for Windows Gamebar or as a stand alone from EVGA's website. With the correct version of Precision X1 I was able to control all three fans via software and one by one turned each off until the ringing stopped. I tested all three twice and have successfully silenced ringing with the card by shutting off fan 3. I will also be submitting a support ticket with my findings and post back with results.

Working as intended. It's a ceremonial whine programmed in by EVGA on behalf of the 99.9% who didn't get a card. It's saying "never forget" over and over again in a dolphin like fashion. It typically goes away after the GPU reaches 70 C. So keep it running hot in Battlefield 4 on high settings or your other favorite title to keep it content.

You could purchase the upgraded fan for $299 to fix it but guess what - it's Out of Stock.

I'm assuming the first part of that is a joke? But does it really go away after a while?

I'm trying to isolate mine but setting a custom fan curve to 0 in X1 doesn't seem to do anything.

You tested and made sure that you enabled the custom curve right? :)

Are you using the new 30 series PX1? I can't slide my fan curve below 30% even with "enable custom curve" checked?

You need to go over to the other side to move it to 0%

Will try this, thanks! Just wondering how disabling this will effect memory thermals in games, but I guess at this point it's just a short term solution anyway

It’s not coil whine :)
I had a 2070s that had whine, this is a fan issue.

Rebooting the software let my custom fan profile work correctly.
I'm also seeing the noise only coming from the 1 fan furthest from the IO side,  "Fan 3" in X1.

The high pitch noise is constant if that fan is on,  it does not change at all with the fan speed.

Edit:  I'm also noticing sometimes when starting X1 I only see 2 fans in monitor and controls instead of the expected 3,  which is fixed when restarting the application.

I don't think this is just coil whine, but it's easy to dismiss the issue if you aren't hearing it yourself.  I might try to record a video.

Very weird issue if it's the same fan for everyone (under the "3080" logo).

I've seen a few posts about this online in one of the discords I'm in as well. It all seems to come back to the same fan right by the power connectors. I look forward to hearing back from those who have submitted a ticket because I'm curious what the problem is. I think that I'm going to try submitting a ticket as well to see if I can get this fixed.

I've narrowed it down to the fans as well. It's like a high pitched tone, almost like a beep. When at low speeds around 30% it's an intermittent beep sort of, when faster it's just a constant tone. Like my tinnitus is acting up or something. I've already put in a ticket last night just waiting on a response. It's honestly loud enough to where I'd RMA it.

I'm curious do you know which fan/fans are making the noise?

I want to say the third fan, or the one under the 3080 part on the side. Could I probably take it back to the microcenter where I got it for a replacement? It'd be faster than waiting on shipping

I don't know if Microcenter would have any stock to replace your card unfortunately.

I played around with the fan curves in precision x1 and when listening closely it sounds like the whine happens across the entire rpm range of the fan.

Yeah, I've found if that 1 fan is "on" the high pitched noise is on.  The noise is the same regardless of fan speed.

Obviously I'll call ahead and see if they can reserve one for my return and do it then. But yeah, supply looks real bad. I'd honestly take a different model card so long as it's another 3080

Hopefully you'll be able to get yours replaced. I'm not really looking forward to having to send my card in for an RMA but I picked EVGA because I've never had a bad experience with their customer service.

Yeah a replacement would be nice, it's loud enough to where I hear it over my games and other background noise, I already have tinnitus and thought it was just that at first

Yeah doing an rma with evga maybe the best chance of a quick turn around then waiting for stores to get more.

Should get s new replacement and hopefully they can send it out right away and cover shipping both ways..
