Hi all , Have you seen the new cards previewed this week at CES and are you looking to get one on Launch day, If so which one do you fancy?
I kind of like the Waterforce Gigabyte 5090 card that is already blocked .

Asus 5090 Astral. Most likely won't be able to get it on launch day. Not 100% sure I'm going to go through with it atm as I'm on the fence wanting to see reviews, and wanting to see if the connectors are going to melt down due to increased wattage.

That Astral is a hell of a card, but I would bet they want 600 over MSRP , The Strix 4090 was like 450 over and they went plumb insane on the LC cards which is just to rich for me,   I say that now, LOL,
obtw I had the TUF in my cart on 4090 launch day and changed my mind and got the MSI SUPRIM hybrid because it was 1799, and a higher advertised clock speed.

That FOUNDERS edition is very interesting but I think its going to be the most difficult to water cool because of the daughter boards for the interface and PCI slot.

I like the Gigabyte RTX 5080 but I am out of money at present. CoolerMaster will enter the GPU market and their GPUs are going to look great.

Dreaming about a 5070 or 5080. Cost and availability is more important than a particular brand or aesthetics at the moment.

Re: 50 Series Roll Call 2025/01/11 06:51:34 (permalink)
Nope. I posted this in the news section, but the current info doesn't look exciting for me. The MFG seems like an interesting trick from a tech standpoint, but I would need to see some very positive reviews on games I actually want to play to be interested.

Saw this article with some leaked 3DMark scores.

The leak gives the 5090 a Time Spy Extreme score of "24000+" and Speedway: "13500+".
Stock scores for 4090 were ~19000 for Time Spy Extreme and ~9950 for Speedway. That's +26% for non-RT and about +35.7% for the RT benchmark. That's pretty much where I predicted lol.

If you ignore MFG: it's +26 to 36% performance uplift for +25% price and +28% power. i.e. little to no change in performance/price from 4090. Edit: Same goes for perf/watt.

Also, the article looks at the scores of overclocked 4090's (there's an update with stock scores) from 3DMark's hall of fame, indicating that the 5090 (assuming stock) is ~5.3% faster than one of the fastest 4090's ever in TSE and ~8% faster than the fastest 4090 in Speedway.

The article stops there, but I was curious, so I looked at those stock 4090 numbers vs the fastest 3090ti scores...there was a ~30% increase in TSE and ~39% increase in Speedway from the fastest 3090ti to a stock 4090. That gets even more drastic when you consider the stock 4090 is likely running at lower power levels than those overclocked 3090ti's and you cannot say that for the stock 5090 vs overclocked 4090's.

We still have to wait for real reviews (grains of salt required for leaks lol), but all the current information indicates that this is a generation for AI improvements, not aimed at gamers. The AI improvements can help with frame gen...but for most gaming purposes, it's just slight improvements over 4000-series.

Well they are using the PTM7950 so you don't ever need to repaste and maybe they will only charge 500$ for that super huge cooler

You may just want to see if there are some good used 4090s that become available after the Launch, The 5080 is going to flirt with the performance line so it can be sold in China , that market seems to be more important to Nvidia for sure . even a 5080 ti would probaly be gimped to meet those requirements , and as such will still loose to a 4090 in performance.

There is no way of knowing if the Traffic will shut down the sales , I would think it will be better that it's a 2k card, less bots will be employed to buy these up this at these high prices, (plus the 1999 cards will be few and far between - More like 2199 and up) I would expect to see a much more calm day , almost like the 3090Ti launch , The 4090 Launch day had a good 2.5 hours of availability that morning in 2022. I've never seen this many cards and AIBs fully built before on the other launches.

I skipped the 4000 series, so I'd like to go 5090, and one that I can put a custom water block on. Depends what compatibility is available from EKWB (or whoever). Most likely NVidia Founders or ASUS. Also want to see how the cards handle, if there are any issues, and if the connectors are going to have issues with the amount of power running through there. A little horrified at that ASUS Astral taking 4 slots!

That sounds very reassuring:), I had a 4090 but tried to quit gaming last year for a new years resolution that failed of course lol. I am stuck with a 4080 super atm.

I'm good with my 4090.  Only way I'd consider going to 50xx series is if a 5070 can outperform the 4090 in all aspects.  We all know that's very doubtful.

I may go for a 5070Ti or the 5080. Will see how well they perform doing what I would use them for. Maybe a xxxx super also. Will wait and see how much $$$$$ they are.

It will be $999 for the 5080 and $749 for a 5070 TI
They should be about  130-250 $ more for the other flavors of AIB cards with at least one basic card maintaining MSRP if past practice is indicative of our future results. They will stay close to the 40 series because of the export ban on the 4090, so the performance of all the lesser cards will be gimped enough to be sold in China.

Solid pass with what has been put out so far. The only thing that could even make me think about biting is a PNY Kingpin RTX 5090... that would be a huge debate because I can run anything smoothly as it is now even with DLAA+PT already at 3440x1440.

Honestly you should try to snag a 4090 used for 1100-1500 depending on the model.

Why do NVidia never learn to get a decent supply at launch? Same every series for years.

Yeah, if I was going to get one, then I'd prob get the Gigabyte Waterforce card with the Waterblock. I might try to see if one is available on the 30th, but I'm not going to hold my breath. I heard stock is limited, but stock is always limited with new launches.

To Create a Demand and push people to a Geforce Now subscription and lets be honest AMD drops the ball every time. When Nvidia saw what people would pay scalpers for a GPU they wanted their cut. They created the demand by selling large amount of GPU's to miners and scalpers and they have been sticking it to gamers ever since. That's why i bought a used Evga 3080ti it makes my games look insane and was less then $400. Someone always has a GPU to sell when new models come out.
