Dear Jacob, is there a possibility, that there will be also a update for the normal cards, so we can put fan speed at 30%? Because 40% is ok, but my 460 runs at 27-28°C with that speed :-) So it would be cool, if it is possible lower a bit the speed.

Maybe, how many are interested in this?

I'm definitely interested in this. I'd be okay with 20%, even :D

i think thats too low
at 30% my lowest idle temps are 36-38 and thats when it clocks down to like nothing
the dynamic clock is neat with the 460

I did some investigation. The download doesnt work on google chrome. It works on firefox thou.

Also, will there be another update on this so that the core clock speeds of the superclocked version of the GTX460 can be increased?

I am, and I've asked about it several times already. I'm waiting on this and aftermarket cooler availability before I sell my 460 and give up for another couple of years on the notion of having a card that's quiet for 90% HTPC/business use yet rocks for 10% gaming. The speed may need to go down as low as 10% or so to use with coolers such as the Arctic Cooling one that is appearing on a couple of other 460s; someone has reported that 40% is way too high even for them, and the manufacturer blew it by keeping the 40% minimum as the default. They say 15% gives comfortable load temps with the AC solution. If this is true, then Precision wouldn't even need to implement custom fan curves. ;)

Well I just got an antec skeleton case. Now I only have the 400rpm 250mm fan on top, a 120mm noctua on my cpu and the fan in the 460. This update would make my system near silent.

from 763 and 950 to 800 and 1000 respectively would be nice
for the SC to remain competitive i think this would be great
if u look at the competition that offer factory OC'd 460's; evga's is about middle of the pack and the pricing is not aggressive either, not low but not high either

If you are running a single-card setup, make sure you uncheck/disable SYNC in Precision. That's how I fixed the problem for me.

Hi...

Bought my first ever Nvidia card last night. Have owned several Radeons over the years. Wanted to continue with the Radeons just because I was familiar with them and have had good results with them. That's all. The old 4850 was starting to die on me and there were no proper replacements available at the store. Couldn't wait for an online to reach me in 2-3 days. An attendant there said to consider the GTX 460 and there was only one left so I took the plunge.

I am happy as can be so far! Really can't (and won't) complain! Proud owner of an 768-P3-1360-TR.

Anyway, here I am today dl'ing the FPB but when I go to install it, I get a bad CRC message and no header to the file. All I am receiving is the .sys file. Am I missing something here or is there in fact a bug with the zip file?

Thanks...

Ok... Ok... Ok... I didn't read all 249 messages before mine. Saw a comment on how the DL didn't work on Chrome. I use Opera so I tried Explorer itself and it seems to work now.

Note to OP: Maybe a small note on your main post to that effect? - Thanks...

Thanks for the advice on disabling SYNC. Quick question. Is SYNC disabled on precision when its blue or grayed out? Assuming gray?

It's grey out for me. Although I switched to Afterburner to utilize voltage controls and user-defined fan profile.

It's called precision or afterburner.

Also I'm ready for that fan speed bios update for non-EE 460s.

If thats the case they could have never gave anyone a FPB and seeing as I thought I was buying the best GTX460 that evga makes its not asking that much.

The superclocked cards are already binned. It would be quite difficult to make a BIOS for even faster speeds that would work for all cards. EVGA just decided that the reference clock could be improved upon so that is the reason for the boost. At the same time, people wanted greater fan control than what the reference BIOS provided so EVGA changed that too. I don't think you should feel bad at all, you got the best 460 available at the time and it is still quite a bit faster. There are other GPUs with less difference in clock speeds between overclocked models.

Thanks for the response EVGA_NickM  but can you tell us if there's going to be a GTX460 FTW like these guys have been talking about http://forums.evga.com/tm.aspx?m=465761 . If this is correct its a far higher clocks than the SC version.

the FTW edition is almost a 100% increase in clocks over the SC version
nearly 200% from reference to FTW

reference to SC:
675 to 763 (88)
1350 to 1526 (176)
3600 to 3800 (200)

SC to FTW:
763 to 850 (87)
1526 to 1700 (174)
3800 to 4000 (200)

reference to FTW:
675 to 850 (175)
1350 to 1700 (350)
3600 to 4000 (400)

only if i waited an extra week and had found out i would have not bought my 1GB SC EE (step-up?!...) i feel like i wasted my money...

i'd say the increases are quite significant and worthy of the FTW lineup
evga did there homework, clock increases look pretty linear with each model

whatever u guys did (if anything) i don't experience the loud fan noise with my EE

Re:Free Performance Boost (FPB) for GTX 460 Now Available 2010/09/05 11:58:17 (permalink)
Hey guys, after installing this FPB, I seem to have a problem with my 460 in sleep mode. After I turned on my PC from sleep mode, there would be no display at all so I have to turn it off and then reboot it again.

I also have a problem after reboot. My card's fan is really loud and there would be no display. After about 2 or 3 reboot, I can finally boot into windows normally. Is anyone else experiencing similar problems? Is there any fix for this?

PS: I'm using windows 7 / 64 bits and my model for the 460 is Superclock 768mb.

Do you still get a POST screen but the problem only happens when windows loads? Have you removed the display drivers and reinstalled the latest ones?

No, it does not void warranty, as long as you are doing it to an EVGA card.

Alright i think i have a very unique problem.... I  own 2 gtx 460 part # 01G-P3-1372-TR in sli. Only 1 of the 2 have the update installed? Both cards were bought from  a local retailer and are about a week old. From the outside the boxes and Part #s are the same but the internal packaging was different? One of the cards came encased in a plastic surround while the other was in some cheap cardboard surround, also the hdmi cables were in a different package (not that it matters). I just wanted to know if its possible to update the 2nd card or if i should just return it and get a new one? Any info i can get would help!

Yes, just run the update in the OP. The one with the updated clocks is most likely in the "green" packaging.
