Ive just applied the bios update to my 768 460 SC.. and reinstalled the drivers.

Could you confirm that the updated bios is 70.4.b.0.64... or has the update not gone through (no error messages at all or anything saying it had not applied the bios)

Not sure either. Can't tell if this is the latest, but from Precision my GPU BIOS is 70.04.13.00.72. Where can we find the info that tells us the 'boost' version?

I just built my first gaming rig ever w/ a GTX 460 SC EE, and I have done these updates.  My GPU BIOS version is now 70.04.13.00.72.  Has anyone confirmed if this is correct?  Also, my core clock slider is grayed out as well, is that normal?  Any guidance would be appreciated!

Think I'll skip installing this if it's causing instability for some people, as well as the update locking the clocks preventing the user from overclocking...

I was able to install the update with no issues when I had the EVGA card.  It went back to Newegg the next day however because the EE cards are way too loud.  I would have returned it for one of the new 1 gig cards with the quiet cooler, but they did not have them until then.  I notice the new "vanilla" stock cooler 1 gig card has the core clock of 720 and not the 763 like the SC version.  Too bad it is only a 2 year warranty.  Your product warranties have become more and more difficult to follow over time EVGA and your TR warranties are less than your competitors.

I am getting my GTX 460 - 768-P3-1360-TR tomorrow.  Is it okay to run the update without installing the drivers first (running Windows standard VGA driver), thus eliminating the need to install the cards drivers, flashing the card, then removing the drivers and reinstalling after updating?

Also, is there an overclocking guide specific to this card?  I can only find the sticky that is a general GPU overclocking guide.

Thank you very much.

As a 470 owner, I'd love a FPB, but I think that comes in the form of a manual OC :P

Good news though. I bet this will also have a 'free performance boost' in sales.

I don't think it will do that much. For NVIDIA cards I would buy EVGA because they have the best after the sell support. I am sure others here feel the same way.

Also this isn't the very first time EVGA has gone above and beyond for us gamers.

Hi guys,

Is there a way to flash back to the old firmware.
I flashed mine and now the temp is 44-45 deg when idle, 100-102 deg when playing any 3D games with fan spinning at 100% causing audible noise.
I was wondering the high temperature surge is it due to the FPB flashing.

Thanks

Did the update and it made some kind of bell noise at the end, not sure if it applied it or not....

But in evga precision (version 1.9.6) my Core clock is greyed out - what gives?

Dragging the shader up makes the core go up.

Do a search about 400 series cards and shader/core being linked ,use new precision as the older version will grey out core ,this is what your should be seeing

Holy something batman, that fan can spin.
01G-P31373-AR Updated no issue, fan vibrates at 100%, never have a need to go that far, keeping the fan at 50-60% does everything I need to keep it below 70c under extreme load.

Hello I found this thread through another forum. I'm sorry if this is a dense question but......

I have a 460 768mb card and the product code matches the first link so I downloaded and followed the instructions.

The cmd window opened and it said it found a valid adapter to update. I pressed Y to continue.  I can't recall the exact verbiage but the next step was erasing and then writing the new BIOS.  These 2 steps happened very fast.. 3-5 seconds max.  The cmd window closed and .....  I assume it worked?   I rebooted but I have no idea how to confirm if the update was successful.

I reran the update and it found a valid adapter to update but I just pressed A to abort at this point instead of running it a second time.

How do I confirm the update worked?

Thank you

Yea it worked then. Precision won't show core clock on newer skins, so not sure how it is grayed out or do you mean the shader clock "Processor Clock" it will show shader clock and memory clock, core clock is half the shader clock. So what ever your shader clock "processor clock" is set to divide that by 2 and that will be your core clock speed.

Or you are using a older skin and this is normal for 400 series cards. In precision you should be able to click on the gear looking thing to go to the settings. From there click on the user interface tab. At the bottom you should see a drop down. Select the EVGA GTX 460 skin from that list.

Next thing I vote for in an update is.... Possibly clocks raised for us SC owners and more important then that....

UNLOCK THE VOLTAGE MORE.
.087 IS A LOW VOLTAGE INCREASE!

That would be awesome.... I was able to go for ever on my 5850's. I know we could easily get higher OC's if we

Actually, I had an MSI 460 which i flashed a custom bios to unlock the voltage, and I only got ~20mhz increase going from 1.087v to 1.2v(910>930). All it did was make it run hotter.
So because of that I am just leaving my evga one at stock voltage cap of 1.087, I am stable at 890mhz, but it is hot and loud..
I am in the Final Fantasy XIV beta, and with auto-fan I get ~95c temps on my 460 1b SC EE. I'll be using their step-up program as soon as I can for a 475. Even if the 475s don't come out, I'll either step-up to a 470 or sell it at end of 90day period.
Evga really could have done better on the design of the cooler. These cards don't run hot in the first place, no need to blow air out of the case. My MSI would hit 64c and be barely audible where the evga one hits 90c on the same test and sounds like a 747 taking off.

Actually I don't have the same experience. I am have reached the 1.087 Limit as well and am hitting a max temp of 67c on my top card of SLI. My Clocks ended up at 890/2000

(Using a CM Sniper Black edition case/ Also Fans up at 95%/ and Cards are right on top of each other NO GAP)

Those are my conditions.

But I wonder if the only reason I can't go higher is because of voltage or VRM Temp?

Voltage possibly because I get no Fragments or Pixels Just Driver Crash when I go to far. But no other sign of too high of an overclock which makes me think it's probably voltage.

Or Possibly the VRM's.... considering I am upping the Voltage by quite a bit.... I maybe causing the VRM's to get too high. I really wish EVGA would have included a temp sensor on the VRM's and Memory.

Any Thought's???

Anyway I agree with you! I plan on using my 90-day Upgrades very soon. Either to go to GTX 465/470/or 475's (If they come out soon enough)

I am a new user here as well and I have dual 460's running in SLI.  When I do this update, do I just do it once at it will apply to both cards?

Also, I have been playing around with the program to do the stress test Precision, newest version and no matter what I do to test the 2nd card, it always tests the first card.  I even select and it says GPU 2, I select test and it defaults to GPU1, I use the drop down to select 2, run the test but it still uses one.

I tried going through the Nvidia COntrol enable and disable SLI and not matter what, it still only tests Card 1.

Also, according to the test screen (oc Scanner) my cards are at 763mhz so what would this free update do for me?  THese cards are only about 3-4 days old.

Thanks...sorry for sound like such a noob, but just invested heavily into this rig and want to make sure I am getting the performance I paid for.

So, is there any reason why my Bios reads 70.04.13.00.72, but my fan speed still has the ability to go up to 100% (following the update, of course)?

Basically, I am seeing two "updated" Bios numbers from folks here:
70.04.0b.00.64
 &
70.04.13.00.72

Which is the correct one?

like i said if you read the thread you would have read the same thing

'shader/core being linked ,use new precision as the older version will grey out core ,this is what your should be seeing  "
While you are using a new version you ARE using a OLD skin that would not show correct Items in its interface ,that's why i posted a PICTURE of the correct view you should be seeing .The second you said Core grayed out it was understood your either using old versions or wrong skin for 400 series cards ,why would i post a picture showing you otherwise.......

^ I assume they didn't know about changing skin. You should have specifically said that like I did instead of just posting a pic of new skin. You didn't really say this is the skin you should be seeing. Either way glad they figured it out.

If your cards are at 763 I assume you have the SC versions. So this update will unlock the fan speed to 100%. You won't see any differences in the clocks speeds. Also not sure about how to test one card. It does default to gpu one like you said. One way I guess would be to take one out and test them both individually.

Anyone else having that "reset all" to BSOD problem with Precision and the FPB?
