Not a simulation, but perhaps... if you look at it sideways and standing only on your left foot... a means to increase GeForce Now subscriptions and Intel Integrated Graphics CPUs (can still buy those). :p

For anyone impatient. You can check your local botter/scalper inventory for a card being sold equal to the new mfr higher MSRP and actually save money in future sales tax as a scalper isn't going to charge you sales tax. I got a 3070 from a scalper recently because I impatient and actually saved ~$60 on sales tax at new msrp price. I'm keeping my queue places though for my friends who didn't get into queue early enough to not be 60 by the time they get a notify. But actually... looking at movement, I'll probably be 60 years old too before my queue places get notified haha.

why would they have faced bad PR for pricing them at $1200 per card. If they would have launched at that price it would have been close to what the previous generations end products sold for. They out perform last generations cards. The 2080ti was $1200 or more and the 3080 out performs it. I don't think anyone would have said anything bad about the price and I am even convinced at $1200 they would have sold out. So in hind site I am glad the cards are still cheaper then they could have been and I am not waiting in line for a $1200 card but a $800 - $900 card People will always complain about the price. The low price is partially (largely?) responsible for the high demand. And thus, partially (largely?) responsible for the inadequacy of the supply. We should be careful not to teach nvidia the lesson that that their mistake was in making this level of performance available at this low of a price. Which is a lesson they'll happily learn when we lambast them for not being able to keep up with demand. --H

Yah I felt guilty, but the scalper was actually a nice guy with some great projects in the works and hardly marked up the card anyway. He wasn't a "career" scalper either. Just a normal dude who tried to grab a card and got lucky around christmas time.

Although I am not waiting for a 3881 or a 3883, just seeing them languish without material movement, I do wish the queues velocity through the timeline was more equitable. To the larger community (and especially any newcomers), if you haven't already signed up for multiple queues, please consider signing up for any cards that you would possibly consider buying. We don't know which queue will move the fastest, and it is better to have options than not. Best of luck!

I just got lucky. I just got notified that I was up for queue for not my preferred 3070 but none the less I got it and I got scared at first as I kept getting a error after 12 attempts it finally went through! I now have a 3070 FTW3 Ultra Gaming coming to me on Monday!

New user here! Just wanted to ask, I signed up for notification about three of the 3080s at EU store - is there anything else I should do? Is the 8hr-to-make-a-decision system from OP post also available for EU? I just want to buy a graphics card like a human being, without being glued to 5 shops, clicking F5. :)

Agreed, this will only embolden Nvidia. I think the reason they didn't think the 3080 could go for $1000+ off the bat was the 10GB of VRAM. If they had made it 16GB I think people would have been more willing (including me), but 10GB is pushing it, especially for 4k. [And, yes, I know the argument that the amount reserved is not the amount used. I completely believe this, but at the same time I can tell you that I have seen my modded Skyrim reserve over 20GB of VRAM. Sure, some could argue that it's only using 10GB or less, but...I don't know. I would need a 3080 to confirm that, to check and see whether it stuttered when it hit those huge 4k/8k textures. Meanwhile, I'll just enjoy my FTW3 Ultra 3090 and be grateful I got it at the "discount" price lol.]

It is unnecessary to do so, but feel free.... Once you get an "invite to purchase" email (i.e., your name has come up in the queue), then please post that good news (card number and your original timestamp registration) so that we can track the head of the queue.

I got my 3767 notification today. Not really exciting to see the email now that I just installed my 3080 from NE lol. Letting this one go back to the queue for someone who deserves it. Screw scalpers.
