Thanks for the code too.... Hopefully it will come tomorrow since I paid for overnight shipping. Looks like the timeline has moved pretty good today. Last I checked we were just after noon on the 18th. I was after 9pm on the pacific coast.

Hurin Remember me? Probably not. Why would you? I'm the guy who sent his 3080 FTW Ultra (3897) to his nephew (after my queue number was called a week or two ago) because we built him a computer (over the phone) all day on Christmas without a video card and I couldn't bear for him to be without a video card for weeks/months while the supply issues resolved. Ha! . . . guess what. . . the one thing I thought that might help me out in getting my own (again) was that my nephew had told me that he too was in the EVGA queues so I could get his card when his turn eventually came. A few days later though, with no news, I showed him how to check his queue status and asked him to check where he was. It turns out. . . the only one he signed up for is the 3888 Hybrid model (I have no idea why, and sadly, it's not one I'd really want). And he's four days back in the queue to boot. So. . . my question: How illegal would it be for me to break into my brother's house and steal back my video card? --H P.S. At least that's one we can scratch off the hybrid queue!
Illegal, possibly. Immoral...not in my book. Thanks for the post; it made me laugh out loud and I woke up the cat.

TheRealMikeVan I know this is an EVGA forum and we're all a part of the EVGA family and fanbase here, but what are your thoughts on the EVGA FTW3 3080 vs the MSI Gaming X Trio 3080? I believe the MSI was cheaper at launch but now those have jumped up to 1k which is more than the EVGA. I was going to give one of them to my friend at/just below cost whenever I am eventually able to get a 3080 FTW3 and I'm trying to decide which one. I was leaning towards keeping the EVGA and make back a hundred (or two if I get one from the queue before the increase) and hopefully being able to register for the step-up program towards a 3080 Ti. The support from EVGA is also better (from what I've heard) but I do really like the look of the MSI and the thermals/factory clock are supposedly better and my case fits it just fine. What are your thoughts?
Here's my reasoning. Assuming you're buying the card for gaming and you've no interest in extreme LN2 overclocking etc... The performance difference between all 3080's is tiny, very very tiny. Therefore performance wise they are interchangeable.
- If you don't much care about what happens after your purchase buy the first one you can find at whatever price you can stomach (but don't feed the scalpers, it's bad m'kay)
- If you do care about what happens after your purchase then buy the first one you can from whatever company you trust most that services where you live. In the USA my opinion is that EVGA is by far the best when it comes to service and support after the sale and since I'm in the USA I'm buying EVGA. If I lived somewhere else where another AIB was "better" there then I would buy from that other AIB.
Thanks for your opinion, mate! :) I would NEVER feed the scalpers. Nor do I want to become a scalper myself so I'm going to sell it at/below cost to one of my buddies who is unable to get his hands on one. Based on your input, I will continue to wait for my 3897. I did see an argument that "is it better to have good support or to not need support in the first place?" and there were some people who have had issues with EVGA equipment, but like enewt said earlier, everyone is going to have their own experiences. I think EVGA is the better/safer bet so I will be going in that direction.

Out of curiosity, have you entertained him getting the hybrid and you getting the original card? Just an idea to throw out there. I'm also assuming his card comes up before prices increase.

Honestly. . . I don't think he wanted the hybrid either. I think he was just confused and/or being a standard (early) teenager when he went to go put in his notification. When I told him it was the hybrid model he was as suprised as I was. But, it's probably moot. With four days to cover in his hybrid queue, I'll likely have sourced one I want by then. My only real hope in the evga queues is the 3885 where I'm a couple hours back (this is under my own name, not my nephew). But, with how they've been moving lately, that now looks like a matter of weeks rather than the days I'd hoped/expected when I sent the 3897 away. Oh well. . . I'll just weep quietly. ;) --H

I can't believe they shifted to 3060 and 3070 being their main focus it seems. Guess they want that markup money on the high end cards.
I don't even expect a card for this year either every time one of my queues get close to my time, they start a new queue for a new card.
Than my queues has just trickled drops, some not even moving for a month now.

It is same for AMD as well. Take a look at their current CPUs and video cards.

No disrespect, but this statement makes little sense to me. Granted, this is a debacle, and if there is something to really complain about, it is the retailer's mitigation against scalpers but at the end of the day, thousands of cards have been sold and purchased. To say that if they could not meet the demand that they should have not sold anything at all is silly at best. So, instead of selling some, sell none? This situation is frustrating but let's not forget that nVidia is in the business of making money. If you are a business owner selling a new product are you telling me that unless you could fulfill every order that you would not sell anything at all?

Heck, you know what normally happens when you can only produce so much of something and yet there is extraordinary/extreme demand? You normally raise the price until demand shrinks and begins to match supply. So. . . it could always be worse. They might have avoided all that bad PR regarding supply by just charging $1200 per card. . . and then faced the bad PR for pricing them so high.

why would they have faced bad PR for pricing them at $1200 per card. If they would have launched at that price it would have been close to what the previous generations end products sold for. They out perform last generations cards. The 2080ti was $1200 or more and the 3080 out performs it. I don't think anyone would have said anything bad about the price and I am even convinced at $1200 they would have sold out. So in hind site I am glad the cards are still cheaper then they could have been and I am not waiting in line for a $1200 card but a $800 - $900 card

Razorhog Someone in a discord chat posted this: asus representative "prices for motherboards are going up in price right now, and another GPU price increase down the line, also the Chinese new year has been bad for production and to not expect any major GPU drops over the entire of February going into march"
... which will no doubt bring another super spreader event in China, leading to even more delays. More and more, I am facing the fact, my good old 1080 will need to keep going for another year. I don't see any hope of getting a card through normal channels in any reasonable foreseeable future.

Razorhog I can't believe I picked what is probably the worst time in the history of PC building to build a new PC.
i know what you mean this is the biggest nvidia failure to date if you couldn't meet demand dont release products
Well lets be nice amd is just as bad. Actually worse since I can't get any amd cpu's ryzen 5900 is pretty much as hard to get as any good gpu is from amd or nvidia. So nividia has 1 fail no gpu's and amd has two fails no cpu's or gpu's
