i wanted to make the jump to x79. my p67 FTW was a great board. rock solid, clocked up great. still runs perfect today. i went and bought a z77 ftw and i had to return it because nobody could figure out why the cpu was locked at x16. tried evga tech and they were stumped as well and told me to return it. i didnt even bother trying again after the x79 mess they had. figured it would go down the same road.

IF this board comes out, and runs solid and clocks like a beast i will jump back over to evga. but that is only if this board shakes the bugs from it and runs as it should. until then, ill stick with what i have now.

The asrock extreme 11 is 600 bucks so I'd like to see EVGA underprice that if possible.

I hope you are joking. $600 is outrageous. The extreme 11 features an LSI RAID controller, multiple PLX chips and even considering that is priced ridiculously too high. This board needs to be no more than $399 for it to appeal to people. (Personally I think $299-$349 would be around the proper range. Especially considering EVGA's current position in the motherboard market). I know you love to "promote" EVGA or whatever, but let's not get crazy here.

+1

ASRock was suppose to be a budget friendly ASUS product but it's turned into something entirely different. $600 for a single socket board is BS at it's finest and on top of that it's from ASRock.

Back to the actual topic, personally I haven't had the same experience with my board that others have mentioned. I did however have a compatibility issue with both my RAM and my processor with a Rev1 board, EVGA replaced it with a Rev2 board and I was good to go. I was lucky enough to get my board very cheap which is the main reason I decided to go EVGA, had it not been on sale I would have probably went with ASUS.

I'm hoping that this board is everything the first X79 boards should have been. It would be nice to see this priced at around $300. Maybe EVGA can offer a step-up to those that want to unload their current boards, it would be a nice gesture on EVGA's part.

Only time will tell, lets hope for the best...

If you look more closely at the MB picture I don't see the 8 pin connection for the CPU.I'm wondering that might be is coming from 24 pin power cable. That would be interesting.

I PERSONALLY think $600 is too much for ANY MB except MAYBE a long term server board. BUT that's me! I am a midway sort of guy and most expensive MBs are just not worth it to me. We'll see how this is priced AND see if EVGA does the right thing with a previous owners discount... After 3 RMAs and STILL playing GUESS which USB 3.0 works, I think I deserve a bone at least...

To be honest I DO NOT expect much of a break/deal for previous owners, BUT ANYTHING would be greatly appreciated. I was not expecting a super expensive board due to the fact that EVGA has a lot to make up over what HAS happened. I mean, they done right by me as best they can, but playing which USB 3.0 port works gets old, VERY fast. I LIKE the fact that there is NO hub in the next board... The Intel NIC is going ROCK! They are the best out there and I have NO idea why ANY other one is used... I would like to see an upgraded sound chip but I doubt that's going to happen. With Chris Robert's Star Citizen coming out The graphic lanes ARE going to be a big deal, as I am, for the first time EVER, going to want all the graphics HP I can get! I can't wait to play A new Wing Commander game...

I can concur with that! I paid less BUT the both of us SHOULD have working products for what each of us bought! I am not a big fan of free either BUT a helping hand is one thing, free is another... You have had more RMAs than me and I had 3...

I have read your posts and you know lots more than I do and still you have a non-functioning board with more issues than I have... Let's see what they do for all of us... I little help tossed my way would be all I want...

Everyone seems to be commenting like this board is replacing the x79s because they have had some issues... is this board not intended for the up coming Ivy-e?

its pretty much built to redeem them selves, and for the up coming ivy-e. i dont think asus rampage's are releasing new boards for ivy, there boards were rock solid from the start.

The majority of manufacturers, including Asus, have been hinting at thier refresh boards for Ivy-e for a while now. If you and others are see'ing this as a redemption board.. you could be right for all I know, but I feel more then justified in making this comment. Buyers beware, fool me once.. shame on you; fool me twice... shame on me.

Manfacturers tend to keep profit in mind over redemption, Ivy-e grants a whole new oppurtunty for new upgrades and those that want the best... Just like Asus whos board is rock solid will release a refresh board so will EVGA, this in no way means anything to me besides manufacturers are releasing refresh boards.

Wouldn't surprise me at all to see this board running the same BIOS thats on the current X79s.

Considering some things still fresh in my memory, and now knowing its just the way its gonna stay.. I am skeptical.

Awesome looking board.
I would be very interested in buying one if the initial reviews show no issues.
Being an owner of the X79 FTW, I'm still facing the issues with USB3.0 and PCI-E3.0
Everything else on the board seems fine.
I think it would be fair for the X79 series owners to get a special pricing towards the x79 dark. I have the X58 Classified 3, and Z77 FTW. Both boards have been flawless from day 1.

Excellent. And don't over do the USB 3.0 slots. Just one controller for the usb 3.0 and more usb 2.0 , there aren't much devices out that use that.

My thoughts on what EVGA needs with this..

  • Rather than replace current X79 boards, this should accent them.
  • It would be extremely beneficial towards the reputation of EVGA to allow X79 owners who faced so many issues a $75-100 discount on the Dark.
  • With this release, the BIOS issues on current X79 boards should all have been resolved, X79 has now been out for a while. Please, do NOT leave current issues unaddressed, that would just be an EA move.
Jacob, you mentioned BIOS updates, can you say whether if I were to purchase an X79 Classified and flash it to that update if I would have FULL functionality of the board, with none of the current problems?

3dmark 11 wasn't what I was after, and I doubt most people that bought the extreme 11 were after that record either. Kinda hard to make it into the top scores when you have no massive following that is willing to oc the crap out of it rather than use it for its other features.....but some cant see beyond the world of benchmarking, for those the extreme 11 is not the right choice.

Discount? Thats laughable, they need to offer the current owners the ability to upgrade for 75 to 100 if they send in their old board given how poorly evga has handled the situation with the current boards. This is all of course provided that the x79 dark actually works worth a hoot and given Evga's recent performance in the mobo arena I doubt anyone is placing any huge bets right now.

I want to have faith. Yep, I am MOST likely an idiot but I hold out hope for one reason only. EVEN though my MB still is not working 100%. EVGA's commitment to tech support and customer service has been exemplary to me as well as others. Why would they NOT want to help previous owners with problems they KNOW they can not fix. But it remains to be seen what is going to happen and it shouldn't have taken as long as it has. To me, at least there is very little defense for that and I waited 7 months before jumping on the EVGA X79 bandwagon given my love of their STILL working X58 board.
