I was just wondering if there is a BIOS Changelog for the E760 Classified Limited Edition Board  out there for past BIOSes??

I've added this to the BIOS Changelog for the E759 Classified Limited Edition Board (<-link), in case you want to check out the notes and links for current and past BIOSes, both official and beta (Twenty-eightof them and counting...) for this great motherboard.

Ugh I thought my VT was fixed but it wasn't. It is acting weird just like some of you guys showed.

Also this bios is causing a lot of BSOD. I have the 124 BSOD and tried raising my volts but still happens. Today my computer just sitting on the desktop it happened. I never had this problem with bios 78 or before so I'm not sure what is causing the BSODs. My cpu is just clocked to 3Ghz so that my memory gets to 2000Mhz. So disappoiting cause this bios did not work so well at all for my 759. I think its back to the drawing board for the Jacob and the bios team.

If this keeps going I might just sell my board and go with Asus X58 Black Edition or Gigabyte board. Sucks but too much waiting (2 years) and too many bugs on this boards.

80 is rock solid (except for double pump and undervolting in idle inconveniences). Just flash back to that for now.

Youre right I'll flash back and wait till they fix the bios.

roffel

how come i can't get a single overclock working with this bios?
i usually have my cpu and all other settings set to work with an overclock to 4GHZ, and it worked with the 79 bios. but with this one even an overclock of 10mhz would cause my system to fail on boot.
i think i have to roll back to 79 cause this one is not working for me, cant even set my memory to the right timings.
anyone else experiencing these issues?

i have an EVGA X58 FTW3 mobo with an i7 920 D0, and 6GB triple channel kingston hyperX 2000mhz T1 memory.

I have X58 FTW3 with i7 970 and I did tried 80 and 81 and flash back to 79
The 81 only solved the double pump but the VT is not working as with 79 (double pump with working VT more useful for now until evga find final solution)
And in 80 and 81 the memory benchmark for the menory reduced did you noticed this also ?
And can’t set the memory to 1600MHz without losing 4gb of the ram (24 the windows and the Bios read only 20gb) this problem was with the 78 and 79 as well.
I could work with my old overcooking but I did not really test the stability of it.

I am on EVGA X58 E760 Classified, core i7 970, W7Ultimate 64 SP1, 3x EVGA GTX470 in 3way SLI, resume from standby options issues I see so far with bios 81:
S1 enabled in bios, computer does not go in full sleep, fans still running... monitor goes off, will not resume thru WOL or USB input.
Choosing from within Windows to hybernate works fine and resumes fine.
With either S1+S3 or just S3 enabled in bios, VGA bios resume Auto, Off or ON,  hybrid sleep on or off in windows, sleep takes system down, but does not initialize the monitor after wake up. Hybernate puts system off, but the same does not initailize the monitor after resume unless cold reboot.

So far the only option that works for me is: S1 in bios, and Hybernate from within Windows.  This way, I can wake the pc thru LAN or USB, and resumes normally after that, altough it takes much longer time than sleep, which I used all the time on my other Gigabyte EX58-UD5 and works perfectly there.

E762 Disabled -> Enabled, and Enabled -> Disabled. So if you set Disabled in BIOS it is actually enabled and everything works good. Looks like VT is at least broken on E762.

You may need the Rev 1.1 mobo.  I've got one coming in and I'll let you know how everything turns out.
The nice thing about these boards is they are Lifetime warranty puppies - assuming you registered like you were suppose to.
eVGA had me go through a lot of motions to get to the board swap option by process of elimination; upgraded my power supply, tried different vid cards, the behavior stayed the same.  My S* problems are exactly like yours.  S1 is supposed to work like that btw - memory, drives, display and CPU sleep but power and fans stay active.
That's normal.

Thanks for the reply, let me know how the 1.1 rev will work. S1 state on GA-EX58-UD5 takes on sleep everything down, and comes back in less than 5 sec... S3 is using suspend to ram (hybernate, which either combined with hybrid sleep on or off in windows, does not work correctly on e760. Did they tell you what else is changed or fixed on the rev 1.1 vs 1.0? Is gulftown fully supported?

I have exactly the same issue on mine too.  I'm running E759 and revert back to BIOS 78?   Can we except a fix for this?

pureenergie

EVGA_JacobF

BIOS 81 Updates:
  • Fix cold reset when VT is enabled
  • Adds screen clear before invoking option rom
  • Includes Intel RAID Rom to 10.5.0.744
  • Includes CPU Microcode to version 13
  • Includes Intel AHCI Rom to 1.07.10
  • Includes JMicron ROM to 1.07.25
  • Includes Realtek PXE Rom to 2.39

No dice Jacob - onboard Intel RAID still will NOT post with LSI 9260 installed (same problem in BIOS 80). This is the same 'Option ROM' issue... LSI 9260 post is (erroneously) reporting "cannot invoke" even with all JMicron disabled (but the card/drives attached to it work fine). I must boot off onboard Intel ICH10R - 9260-8i is for my 16TB RAID5 array exclusively...reverting back to BIOS 79 until fixed.

Won't argue that different mobo's, by different vendors, will implement S* states in various ways although it is safe to say that Gigabytes implementation of the S1 state is not correct by definition, however pleasing the result may be.  These wiki definitions are considered the standard implementations:

  • S1: All processor caches are flushed, and the CPU(s) stop executing instructions. Power to the CPU(s) and RAM is maintained; devices that do not indicate they must remain on may be powered down.
  • S2: CPU powered off
  • S3: Commonly referred to as Standby, Sleep, or Suspend to RAM. RAM remains powered
  • S4: Hibernation or Suspend to Disk. All content of main memory is saved to non-volatile memory such as a hard drive, and is powered down.

Once mobo vendors start doing stuff like "S1 & S3" or doing hybrid (hibernate) variations within their BIOS construct, then the word of the day is really just customization.  Hibernate is really an OS directive where a RAM image is saved to disk.  Anything else at the BIOS level is just more BIOS customized implementation.  There's really no right and wrong in this regard, just different mfg's interpretations of the base ACPI.  For the record, hibernate is not "suspend to RAM" by definition - since the late nineties it's always been "suspend to disk".

As far as it's been explained to me, the Rev 1.1 board supports Gulftown and is said to be helpful in many of the sleep mode issues although eVGA hasn't been forthcoming on other specific details.  I'd venture a guess that the Rev 1.1 board has some slight layout (trace path) changes as well.  I love these classified boards, and I can't wait to get one that does the basics the way it's suppose to - then its just a matter of settling on a BIOS and being done with it - this eVGA BIOS fiasco, where things get broke by way of other stuff getting fixed gets to be a bit too much.  If my new Rev 1.1 board solves the sleep deal, then I'm flashing it to 80 and deboarding the upgrade train.  80's got all the stuff I need with the bonus of raid ROM updates.  Can't see chasing the gold ring anymore after this - my board has stable overclock and has plenty of horsepower under the hood for my needs.

Yeah, I should have done the same. The 80 beta bios runs completely stable for me at 4.0 and VT works (albeit with the double pump).

BIOS/POST gets stuck on Verifying DMI pool data...... if there is no USB with bootable installation files and or HDD'd with Windows installation on it.

    Is this normal behavior?

I would expet normal behavior to report missing Bootable environment.

I recently upgraded to the X58-FTW3 132-GT-E768-KR motherboard with an Intel 970 cpu. I'm currently running BOINC Seti on 6 cores (No Hyperthreading) and had it OC's to 3.8ghz. I downloaded the 81 bios and did the upgrade and was surprised no option was given to save the old bios. My system started crashing with kernel power errors in the System log and firmware problems listed. I let it run overnight with default bios settings and had a BSOD today when I checked it. I downloaded the 77 bios and have been running the past hour or so on it at 3.8ghz. One other problem I haven't pinned down yet is my HP DVD 1140i drive, which is connected as SLAVE after a WD-1600 hard drive, is failing on burn operations. I tried it on another computer and it worked OK. It's the center connector on the ATA cable so I didn't suspect the cable but will try swapping it out.

What are the kernel power error and firmware messages?  They are probably just the usual nag about speedstep not being turned on.  I don't know why MS insists on flagging those errors instead of info.  I guess they know best.

That's a red herring, and probably nothing to do with the other problems you mention.

yeah I don't get the VT issue. I'm typing this from Windows 8 in VT. with all my devices working. I'm using VMware Workstation. May be a software issue for some.

    There was a message:
The kernel power-manager has initiated a shutdown transition.
After rebooting there were 6 error messages (1 for each core):

I don't know about this "The kernel power-manager has initiated a shutdown transition." unless that's just the usual message @ shutdown.

All the other stuff is just telling you (once per core) that SpeedStep is not turned on.  Turn it on or leave it off as you prefer.  That's a really stupid (IMNSHO) "error" for Windows to be posting.  Especially with the cryptic "firmware" message.  Why the *bleep* don't they just say "INFO: SpeedStep is not turned on" ?

It looks like the kernel initiated shutdown message is normal but I never got the firmware messages before the 81 bios update. It's possible that Speedstep was turned on before that - I really don't know. SInce rolling back to the 77 bios I've had no more reboots or BSOD and no firmware messages either. I guess if there's a problem with the bios update it will be reported by others. It looks like a couple already have.

    I agree Zoltan,
it's useless information that make the user panic and think something is wrong.  That error in on every system I've ever overclocked . If you don't want to see it, enable speedstep.
