Doesn't BSOD for me, either. VT implementation is definitely flawed, though.
Looking forward to testing another release candidate. :)

I made a wish last night for a new BIOS and it came through Here's a teaser

Testing continues

Update 1:

Stock Settings (E759, Rev 1.0, i7 970 Gulftown processor, 12GB DRAM at 6-7-6-18-72-1T) - VT Disabled in BIOS
  • Setting in BIOS working - PASS
  • XP Mode not working - PASS
  • Ubuntu in VirtualBox not working - PASS
  • VT stays disabled after soft restart - PASS
  • VT stays disabled after full shutdown and power-up - PASS

Stock Settings (E759, Rev 1.0, i7 970 Gulftown processor, 12GB DRAM at 6-7-6-18-72-1T) - VT Enabled in BIOS
  • Setting in BIOS Working - PASS
  • XP Mode working - PASS
  • XP Mode enabled, then disabled, then enabled again working - PASS
  • Ubuntu in VirtualBox working - PASS
  • Ubuntu in VirtualBox after running XP Mode working - PASS
  • XP Mode after soft restart working - PASS
  • Ubuntu in Virtual Box after soft restart working - PASS
  • VT stays enabled after soft restart - PASS
  • VT stays enabled after full shutdown and power-up - PASS
  • VT stays enabled after S3 - PASS

Overclocked Settings (E759, Rev 1.0, i7 970 Gulftown processor, 12GB DRAM at 6-7-6-18-72-1T) - VT Enabled in BIOS
VT operating same as without overclock - PASS

Other Tests
  • S3 resume - PASS
  • Consecutive S3 resume - PASS
  • VT stays enabled after S3 resume - PASS
  • VT stays enabled after multiple consecutive S3 resume - PASS
More to come tomorrow!

Update 2:

Overclocked Settings (E759, Rev 1.0, i7 970 Gulftown processor, 12GB DRAM at 6-7-6-18-72-1T) - VT Enabled in BIOS
  • VT stays enabled after extended use - PASS
  • VT stays enabled after extended use and multiple reboots/shutdowns - PASS
  • VT stays enabled after S3 resume and extended use - PASS
Other Notes
  • If using MSI Afterburner to overclock graphics cards the system may crash or hard-lock following S3 resume (it may or may not happen immediately).  This is not related to S3 resume but rather the fact that MSI Afterburner incorrectly restores the overclocked profile following resume from sleep.  It only restores the clocks but not the corresponding voltages causing potential crashes.  A workaround for this bug is to hot-key your profile overclocked profile and apply it after resuming from sleep, or alternatively if unstable immediately after resuming to hot-key the default profile and apply it before going to sleep followed by reapplying the overclocked profile after resuming from sleep.
Update 3

Other Tests
  • S3 resumes after extended sleep (7+ hours) - FAIL
Notes: It appears that at least on my setup waking from extended S3 sleep does not work correctly.  Video and keyboard are not restored and a hard reboot does not fix the problem.  The only solution is to hard reboot followed by a full power down and then power up.  This restores everything to normal functionality and the system boots as though nothing happened.  However, I can say with pretty good certainty that the CPU, board, hard drives, mouse, and OS itself did restore as Windows reports an improper shutdown at next successful boot.

Not me, lol, I wish I could take the credit.  This is a fix from official channels.  I only have the E759 version so if you have that you can help test it.

See above comment.  I just sent you an email.  I only have the E759 for testing.

Edit: I updated the original teaser post with more results.

At the risk of finding issues through further testing I will go out there and say yes, it looks like they did.

I wonder why they did not do a beta with that version and get more testing from most folks on this forum.

Unfortunately, I think most people do not know how to properly test things and would falsely report things as working or not working without actually being able to reliably back up their claims with proper tests.

I've now been using the beta for about 12 hours on pretty continuous basis with no issues.  That is a very good sign.  Every test I throw at it is working like a charm.  The BIOS appears solid to me, but I will continue to test it and post/send feedback

Other problems found in bios 81  (My mobo 170-BL-E762-A1)

- Sometimes when I reset the bios to default, the card starts, but after the initialization of the JMicron, the screen stays black and freezes.

- Sometimes when you press ctrl alt del to change the boot, the card part, but when press Delete to enter the bios restarts continuously.

- With pen drive kingston, sometimes, the second JMicron crashes and freezes the bios and you have to press reset to restart the card.

I hope, can be of help!

Ok, I did not understand any of that...can you try to explain a bit better.  I can understand that English is probably not your native language but it is hard to get help if we cannot understand what you are asking.

But what you do not understand?

These short sentences, and do not understand what is not understandable.

MOTHERBOARD: EVGA E762 CLASSIFIED 4 WAY SLI CPU: INTEL i7 980X @ 4Ghz RAM: G.SKILL TRIDENT 3x4GB 2000Mhz (8 9 8 24) 12GB VGA: 2 ZOTAC GTX580 SLI HARD DISK: 2 VERTEX 2E 60GB RAID 0 - 2 VELOCIRAPTOR 150GB RAID 0 SOUND CARD: SOUND BLASTER X-FI TITANIUM PCI.E CD ROM/BLU RAY: LG BH10LS30 (BLU RAY) - LG GH24NS50

Re:EVGA X58 Motherboards - BIOS 81 Released 2011/04/20 13:01:17 (permalink)
- A few times, setting the bios to default parameters, save and quit, the motherboard boot, and after the initialization of the second JMicron crashes giving black screen.

- When set the motherboard to default, save and go out, Boot and stops at the boot cdrom. Pressing ctrl alt del, the board will reboot, and then when I try to enter the bios by pressing del, the motherboard reboots continuously

- 4/8/16Gb memory sticks do not work properly. Sometimes, the pen creates a block ofthe second initialization JMicron bios. It unlocks only by pressing reset.

It 's more clear now?

RaptorX,
Yes it is clearer. Are you overclocking a bit high? It sounds like system unstability to me when you only have intermittent problems. I sure have not observed any of this.

I really like this idea. Abit did this on some of there last motherboards... ( I doubt that is why they went under! )

@RaptorX - I have to second this.  This does not sound BIOS related.  Keep in mind that it could be BIOS "related" in the sense that overclocks and settings sometimes need to be redone moving from older to newer BIOS.  Just because there was a profile that was stable and worked on an older BIOS does not mean that it is on a newer BIOS.  Typically, I redo and re-test all of my overclocks and settings from scratch after a major BIOS update.

bios 82 should be available soon, it is already ready and I think it is good bios this time!

It's good for me so far   I could not get it to display any fault yet.
Can u categorically and unambiguously state that double pump is fixed for good and VT still works?

I hope release 82 fixes the voltage not lowering at idle when Vcore is manual issue and also fixes the broken fan speed control...

Thanks dejanh for the update. I can't wait to get this new BIOS, since I had the same issues as you did. I'm guessing you're working with Jacob via emails.

For me, yes, that is correct.  VT is working perfectly and double-pump is no more.

I do not believe that any change like that is included in this BIOS.  I am not even sure how to test it to be honest as I never use SpeedStep or C1E since it cripples SSD performance due to down-clocking of the lanes.
