I think you will be fine with what you have planned.
My 2670 stay cool with cheap 16$ 3 pipe coolers. Have good airflow in the case you will be ok.

Picked up a Phanteks case today. Seems very roomy and just need the rest of the stuff to get here.

I like Phanteks cases, I have 3 of them.
Nice and roomy, can arrange them easily.
Well built. Good bang for the buck.

I have one too........sitting...........MOBO wouldn't fit. IE: Pay attention to the DETAILS (as in photos) (Unlike me thinking I could wiggle the MOBO in) I am off by 7mm due to the angle on the MOBO mounting area. I liked the looks of them and as Bill says about the "bang for buck and build quality" +1

I picked up the green enthoo pro (was on sale - and looks better than I thought). I agree with Bill, it's built impressively well and flexible, especially for the price. it fit the bargain intel ssi eeb board no problem, except it unfortunately is missing one stand-off hole. figure 8 of 9 are good enough.

You'll be fineeeeeeeeee, nothing to worry about. If I had paid attention to detail and not been looking at umpteen different cases, wrote down the actual specs of everything I was looking at...........I wouldn't have screwed up (maybe)

EDIT: what are the dimensions of the board you are wanting to put in it? I have a FTW-K (264mmX305MM) sitting here and the case, I could break the seal on the MOBO and test fit if you like.

EDIT 2:  Well all was good on my test and tune for the revised rig........until last night...........a stick of RAM went belly up for what ever reason, BIONC "waiting for memory" flagged in the manager .......now I'm down to 8gb and will be returning the whole set to Amazon for replacement vs RMA since it's 4 days new. Too bad it wasn't a DDR3 rig...........I have a lot of those that I could steal from another rig to run 16gb at least....

Number Fields is a painful project.................Est time 1:57= 14hrs long
At least PG gives you a time est that will be met or come in earlier than projected............Then again, either work excellent as a test-n-tune for a OC and temperatures
That is all........

Hats off to you for trying that sob project. Maybe I'll give it a go once more after the pg challenge.
Trying to get folding bucks before the end of month crunching rush. Yeah admitted it!

Agreed it is a sob project, but at least they upload unlike 2 Folding projects @ 100k each that didn't... EVER... They sat from the bonus and "uploaded" not completely until they expired for no points at all. I tried everything to get them to upload to no avail, all the other projects ran through fine while those just sat there 7.43>7.52>7.86> etc etc etc Oh well

So, on the Entho Pro case there's that fan hub on the back and I can't get it to work. The sata power connector is fine but no fans turn unless I plug them in somewhere else. Am I missing something?

Signal wire installed in correct position to the hub, and has to be plugged into MB active fan header - check how fan header is set in BIOS

This guy (Jozef J) is running a set of servers that probably equates to the electrical power draw of his entire city and USA is a cancer of the world?

Guy did in few days what I can do in a month on POGS.. lol changes his alliance name a lot apparently too..

I been voting for teammates doing the challenges/sprints.
Hardly anyone I vote for wins. In more ways than one!

What beautiful weather forecast for the next few days. mid 70f sunny days, low 50f nights. not so humid.
Going to get some stuff done, brakes on the caddy, weed the garden.
Get some other things done if I am not hurting too bad from doing the brakes and weeding the garden lol
Few small things to do on the Mustang, the drivers door weather strip, did the other side last year.
2 cases came, I have to get a couple boards in cases so they take up less room.

Harvey is going to hit Texas and the gulf coast states near TX.
To everyone from there, please stay safe and you guys are in my thoughts and prayers.
The forecast looks grim, the storm they say will stall and dump up to a couple feet of rain.
That with the storm surge looks like the coastal towns will get flooded really bad.
Stay safe and wishing the best of luck.

If you want to be impressed by a project with LONG work units, try GIMPS.

Most machines will have multi-week if not multi-month "work units" there as the norm when doing LL tasks.

Oddly enough, it's one of the few remaining places that Intel CPUs still CRUSH AMD - even Ryzen doesn't do very well on it for some reason - though when you factor in cost the older A10 and FX cpus are somewhat competative 'till you start comparing total system cost....

I no longer MOO due to abuses by certain "whales" in the Gridcoin community - so I now work the Distributed.net project directly again.

I use to have a Primo and now only have a Pro left but I plugged my hubs into the CPU header and it didn't have any issues.  They make great cases for the price.  Right now i've emptied out my Pro, not sure yet what I want to do with it, it has such a nice side panel display ^_^.

Threadripper crunching rig? Anyone going that direction? Maybe it's just the cores and price point that are making me  but it seriously looks intriguing to me. I know Bcav has the 1800 and it doesn't seem up to snuff on crunching vs Intel............. But paying less for more (AMD) vs more for less (Intel) has me seriously considering a TR build sooner or later. I'll let the smoke die down and wait for the results from the "beta" testers before I make my decision though..........................

Nope Not Me This Time Around, back to Intel and the X299
But Who Knows I am still 6 or 7 months away from Building or (Assemble as some Prefer) my next rig.
"up to snuff" this may be because of the MSI Motherboard.
It is also nice to see the Temp of Each Core that Intel Provides.

Re: Crunching Team general open ended discussions 2017/08/27 14:21:36 (permalink)
Ryzen seems to be pretty competetive with Intel on a "per real cores basis" in most crunching, but loses out to the higher-end (and MORE EXPEN$IVE) Intel CPUs due to the lower clock rates.
Only reason I do ANY CPU-based crunching though is that I have to have the CPUs to drive the folding GPUs, and end up with some unused cores that I hate to leave idle....

I suspect Threadripper isn't going to be real competetive with the OLDER Intel E5 based server CPUs for crunching on a cost basis, just because it IS new and CPU performance hasn't ramped up all that much in the last 5-10 years or so due to the increase in interference from quantum effects as the process sizes keep shrinking (this was a NOTICEABLE effect 20 years ago, more so if you count "tunnel diodes" that required quantum effects to work at all but were specially built to achieve those effects).

Those quantum effects are WHY the current 14/16 nm node didn't manage to provide more of a performance increase in the current GPU generation vs the previous generation - traditionally halving the feature size would more-or-less quadruple the overall performance for the same power usage, or double it at half the power - but the current generation was more like half again the performance at two thirds the power draw.

Now that vorsholk has stopped his abuse, I'm returning to folding.
I no longer MOO due to abuses by certain "whales" in the Gridcoin community - so I now work the Distributed.net project directly again.

Yay, have finished up my 2 x e5-2680v2 crunching rig:) (Speaking of Threadripper, all-in this cost less than just that cpu, and is nearly as fast in something like the blender benchmark).
Gotta be my favorite build I've done so far!
