I've seen that green avatar popping up lately, glad you've returned to the mothership.
I still enjoy using my coffee mug every day.

Congrats on chubby increase.

Thanks Yodap. That increase floored me and took me into another tax bracket. (That's success for you!)

I sold off my GTX970 video cards and ordered a 1080Ti black.
Will be the first time in a very long time I bought a new top of the line video card.
I have a couple other 980Ti that I bought used that seem to work well.
Hope to crush some GPUgris this Fall and Winter.

On another note, after a couple trips to the dentist, my tooth if finally feeling better.
Hope I can avoid a root canal.
100% of people who get a root canal die, I want to try to avoid that.

I've never had a root canal but I'm dying (laughing).
I have a 780 and 2 970's that would love new homes. Serious crunchers need serious crunching.......things...

I was hoping someone would find that funny.

There is someone right now looking for a GTX970 in the WTB section.
I sold 4 GTX970 and a R9-280X at [H] in no time flat. One sold in 6 minutes. I was like, "dang" that was quick.
Thats what she said!!!!
Sold at a reasonable rate, some are asking crazy prices because of the shortage.
I gave people good deals, since I have been real lucky lately getting good deals.

This weather is really getting disturbing around here anymore. (NE IL.)  High humidity, hell like heat indexes and then top it all off with severe thunderstorm warnings (DAILY) and the the possibility of tornado warnings (Wednesday I believe we had a Tornado warning)
Weather radio going off every 10 minutes........................ So far I've been lucky and all has passed without incident. Power has flickered enough to reset rigs, no I do not have back up power supplies. It has never been this "bad" for me to feel the need of having them, knock on wood I haven't lost any equipment from this weather.(now or in the past) Lost some Folding WUs and that's about it................yes I know I'm probably on borrowed time.

Stay safe!
Hot and humid here too. Going to cool off to the low 80s again soon I believe.
Been having thunderstorms here too. Lightning hit real close a couple weeks ago. Flash then boom instantly.
Talked to my next door neighbor a couple days ago, ball of light went into her house over the electric line.
Took out her flat screen TV, FIOS outdoor box and FIOS modem and the TV DVR box, computer was off and seems to be OK.
It's Summer, I can't complain really, it has not been too bad here this year. I have seen it a lot worse.
Summer time and I can drive my Mustang, so I'll take it over a Snowy Winter.
Winter is good crunching/folding and I do enjoy that too, but I am in car mode, Mustang fever.

It will be a while before I get the second card, Fall Time Frame is my Goal.

Re: Crunching Team general open ended discussions 2017/07/22 19:23:20 (permalink)
Swapped a Crunching/Folding rig out today to a new case and reworked the cooling loop on the CPU to tidy things up. Which started out good and turned into a nightmare when I couldn't find the new tubing I wanted to use. I found some left over tubing from another build that is supposed to be blue but looks purple.....  I was hoping for better temperatures on the GPUs, they are better but not what I was hoping for. Sooooooooo several different fan configurations and I had them as good as they were going to get for being 2/ 970s stacked on each other above a 1060 with the case sides on. Well, I didn't like the temperatures after running Collatz for about an hour soooooooooooo I took 1 970 out and will have to deal with being down a GPU until my ICX's come back from the upgrade. So for now it's done until I have to swap in the new ICX's and probably have to reconfigure the fans again! Nothing special, but it works!

The hose coming off the CPU is crooked and it annoys me, if it weren't for wanting to swap out the MOBO...I'd rigid tube this thing.

Might seem crazy.....but if I could find 1080 water blocks cheap......I'd put the 1060s under water.............according the the Ek configurator they are supposed to fit.

Yes, Zip ties. The hard drive cages that go in that position have a fan mount. I take them out because they are too restrictive for the front fans. I am going to modify the drive cage so I can use that instead of the old faithful zip tie. Too hot out to be messing around, so I opted for the easy route for now.

Inexpensive NZXT case, I got 2 off of Amazon warehouse deals for less than $40 each.

Just liquid cooled my e5-2680 setup

Put 2 arctic 120's on it. After stress testing it's only running at 50C That's basically 1/2 TJ Max, and almost 30C less than what it was air cooled!  Take that summer heat!

lol, maybe another one for my other computer. Or maybe just 2 1080's to replace the 1050 ti's. (will have to see how my bonus is this year, fingers crossed it's good)

BTW... The latest Nvidia drivers / The ones that have 1080 ti compatibility are not windows 10's friendly.. at least if you are like me and have never updated  I was still running ver 1507 (build 10240). It needs ver 1511 (build 10586) minimum to install the drivers.. so yeah, 8 hours later!! it's up and running..

Burning through some Collatz right now @ 270 seconds!!

Anybody have any advice about cooling a couple of e5-2680v2? They're on their way, but I wasn't sure how serious of a cooler I should consider. Saw devlin85 up above with aio's... should I be thinking along the same lines?
I'm trying to keep the whole build ~$700, so I was pondering grabbing a couple DeepCool Gammaxx 400's ($28 for both), but figure I might just be wasting the money.
(have an enthoo pro case with a whole bunch of extra 140mm fans hanging around so should have good airflow).
