Re: Crunching Team general open ended discussions 2017/11/20 01:26:28 (permalink)
APC UPS have current-limited battery recharge circuitry, in EVERY one I've ever worked with (going back to their first generation designs).

This makes it VERY safe to put upgraded batteries on them even when the UPS isn't specifically designed to add an "external battery pack" - mine normally end up with a deep-cycle battery or two (depending on if it had 1 or 2 gel cells originally) for VERY long runtime AND lots longer battery life.

The 12V 7A gell cells they use in a lot of their designs are an industry standard, far too many brands use those things and BADLY overload them which kills runtime AND battery life, but the actual UPS design is quite good.

They USED to use some 12V 12A gel cells in their higher-end designs, but that seems to only apply to their "professional" line UPS of some older generations - those had better battery life AND about double the runtime, but still not REAL long battery life.

Most UPS do NOT remove line noise - the only ones that do are "online" types, that tend to cost an arm and a leg as their "battery charge" circuitry has to be designed to handle the FULL load of the UPS itself and they also have to be engineered to run ALL of the circuitry 24/7 which also drives cost up quite a bit.

Now that vorsholk has stopped his abuse, I'm returning to folding.
I no longer MOO due to abuses by certain "whales" in the Gridcoin community - so I now work the Distributed.net project directly again.

Until recently I sold surveillance cameras and DVRs. We included a line of UPS based on your needs. I definitely do not know as much about the batteries as you do but I would only buy one that was line interactive. These provide constant monitoring of the power going to your computer so you eliminate brown outs among other things harmful (power wise) to your PC. Bown outs will drastically shorten the life of your Spinning HDD. I am not sure about SSDs.  And you cannot tell you are having a brown out since your machine will work with a lower than suggested power amount coming off the wall.

The non line interactive backups do nothing to provide clean regulated power. The just switch very fast to battery in the event of a power loss. I sold Rack mount and the standard box style. Here are some examples with specs;

I like this one http://optiviewusa.com/UPSPRO2000.aspx
1200 Watts for less than $300 less shipping and Sales Taxes.
All of my APC batteries lasted 4 to 5 years and they are only 3 year Batteries Newer Batteries are 3 - 5 Years now Schneider Electric.
Of all my APC Units only one failed me, but I do only buy the Pro or higher models.

That is a good backup and the cool part was the rep had stock on all models in the same city - about ten minutes away. We were using another brand and they went bad too often. With the Orion -that's the true manufacturer- we had no problems from any of my wholesale clients.

I bought the Cobra back in 2003, the original owner traded it in for a 2003 Cobra.
So I am the 2nd owner. Did a ton of work, new gas tank, gas pump, maf, headers, full exhaust, ..........

I sold my 2003 Cobra a few years ago. Been eyeing the 2013/14 GT500s the past month or so. They're around $50k which isn't too bad of a price for what you're getting.

I love the 2003 and 4s. The 2018 are looking good. But I just can't bring myself to sell the 93.
I am on the fence right now, doing factory kit car.
A 347 stroker in it should make it scoot right along. My son in law is game for the build.

They sell for a small fortune when done too.

My 93 has shot way up in value, clean low mile stock are selling for 30K
Mine has high miles on the clock, but low on the rebuilt motor and all the new parts in it.
I kept most of the old parts if some one wanted to put it back to stock.

I would not been able to sell a 2003 either, I lone those terminators.

My Termi had a ported blower and built aluminum shortblock from MMR. I expected it to put 550+ to the rear wheels, but I sold it before getting it tuned. Needed the money to move.

That factory 5 car looks nice, but the GTM looks fabulous. I want one now.

Yeah I had a upper and lower pulley. Don't remember what size they were now. It was Redfire. I had a tune that made 505 rwhp, but that was on the stock engine and a stage iii steggy port. I upgraded the port to a stage v snake bite port and when I had MMR build me an engine I upped the compression half a point. I also got an accufab throttle body after the rebuild with a new intake pipe.

I did not dyno mine, I guess around 500ish.
Tuned it with a Moats quarter horse and a laptop doing pulls on the back roads data logging.
Now I have to burn a Moats permanent chip, been meaning to for the last couple years. On my todo "list"

I did not catch what color was your 03??

Nice!
Sonic blue or Mysticchrome  were my fav. 03 colors, but i would take anyone of them in a heartbeat
I think if I remember right the 2018 gt is doing 12.1 in the quarter mile.
Won't take much work at all getting it into the 11s. That's crazy for a GT.

If I were to get another one it would be an 04 Competition Orange, but I think I am going to get a 2013/14 instead. Black or Gray.

I've got a performance red 2000 GT (never ending project car), w/built 4.6L, supercharged, and a 2012 GT/CS daily driver, just some mild bolt-ons.
'00 Cobra R and 03-04 terminators were my favorite, but I'm really liking the 2012 and liked the S550 when I test drove it.  Coyote engine is just awesome.

Hard to choose between dumping my play money into Mustangs or PC stuff.

UPS is also good for removing any noise on your line, besides the power function
I've been happy with these UPS ---> I've given up on APC (batteries do not last)

CyberPower CP1500PFCLCD PFC Sinewave UPS System, 1500VA/900W

This one is on sale for $120 for the next 3 hours or so on Amazon, seems like a good price.
