Will this be available to international customers and not just the US. I am quite keen to add another EVGA GTX480, but will hold off until this is known.

That pcie insert is awesome :) I'm glad this was posted before I modded my board! Now my only question is, I wonder what these will cost since I bought my board off another member and as such, it isn't registered to me :( I'm sure I won't get a free one because of that, but I don't want my e759 going down in flames!

Hi all,

We would like to give you an update on the solution that we will have available shortly.

Towards the end of November, we will provide a very small “PCI-E” insert that can plug into any available PCIe slot on the motherboard. This insert is so small it can fit even below the fansink on a dual slot card.

The insert will connect to a molex connector from the power supply, and provide extra power on the PCIe lanes for extreme setups.

We will make this available free of charge for a limited time for registered customers of compatible boards, please stay tuned for more details.

Thanks,

Interesting that you are doing this. Let me ask you this: With the insert does it occupy that PCI-E slot or does it have a pass through so you can still use the slot? It would seem that the people that would benefit at all from this would be the ones running Tri SLI and may not have an available PCI-E slot. If it does have a pass through, how do you plan on accommodating the Tri SLI bridge if the insert raises the height of the card so that they are no longer parallel?

And for what it's worth, I've been running my board in Tri SLI for months 1st with GTX470's at 800/1600/3600 and now with GTX480's at 800/1600/3800 and no issues. All be it my board is an E758 but it does not have an additional PCI-E power input. Is this rare event isolated to the "classified" edition boards?

I'm kinda nervous...
Just bought an e760 2 weeks ago to replace an e757, registered it THE SECOND I got home, and it turns out it has the 'old' barcode number.
I got the board from Tiger (Canada) and I plan on putting my 480 in it. No SLI (yet) so far, but what do I have to do to get this adapter?
Sorry for the newb question?
Thanks,
M.

Question:

Are EVGA 750i FTW boards qualified for this upgrade? I've gotten burned on this issue before by an Asus P5Q board when the two cards were overdrawing from the 24-pin connector.

So is this like a pci-e riser slot insert? Also should I not run my system until this comes out? I have a lot of hardware plugged in including x-fi, 2x 480 gtx standard, + 9800 GT, plus 6gb ram and overclocked cpu. What are the chances that it will burn out running my system?

Also dear Evga I have a better suggestion. For everyone that spent over $400 on the 759 send us a Classy 3 and we wont sue. I for one spent $500 the week the board came out straight from EVGA and think that this is BS. I propose that we stand together and burn our 759 limited certificate and post it on Youtube.

Also note everyone I'll still support evga and buy their video cards as still like the company, but not so sure about their motherboards anymore . . .

Thank you.

im sorry dude but its not just evga mobos, early asus and gigabyte boards had the same potential issue, and the prof is there that they added a molex plug for pcie power on there latest motherboards offerings

Sue for what?  The lawyer costs alone wouldn't make it worth it.  Plus, you would be sueing for the potential for something to happen?
The only way you would have a case is if you actually had damage from the issue and EVGA didn't help you.

Plus, EVGA is doing what what they can to make up for NVIDIA's screw up, not theirs.  If anyone was to blame, it would be NVIDIA for not making sure their cards would work with the specs that they gave to mobo manufacturers.  Companies shouldn't have to make workaround like molex connectors.

On a side not, I have a 758 which I have been folding for over 12 hours a day for two months on two 480s which are highly overclocked and I have had no issues.  The power slot isn't at all above case temperature.  I wonder if anyone has considered that maybe 24-pin connectors are frying because the power supply may not have been giving enough power to the 480s so it tried to pull it from the PCI-E power?  Somethign to think about.......I browsed through what I could find on the forums to include that 30+page thread and didn't see a mention of it.

I still think your Beef is with Nvidia, not EVGA, and that EVGA has gone above and beyond to provide a solution for a problem that was caused by a company they market and package for, and it's compatation ATI, and not a prodact they designed. The fact that EVGA has done what it has, shows a real comitment to customer service. They easiley could have said, " we were provided a specification, and provided a design to meet that specification, to industrie standards, as called for by ATX PSU requirments " but they didn't.  They could have simpley pointed the finger at Nvidia's quoted Power specification, and said we cover our prouduct up to the power the card claims to use, but they didn't. I for one applaud, them for providing a solution caused by another company; and although am not 100% satisfied that we should have to deal with this, am compleatley , statisfied with EVGA's comitment to resolve it, and the fact that they are willing to provide it free of charge, reminds me that I made the right choice when I bought their product. I say well done EVGA!!!,

No wonder Apple dropped Nvidia technology from their hardware. You guys are right. Nvidia is always doing something to piss people off. Like from the time 680i came out they had problems with their boards overheating, stability, and the latest was the video connectors burning out. Thats what they get for cutting corners and cheap labor.

Wow can't believe I read this today and just yesterday I bit the bullet and did the Mod.  Patience is a virtue. Oh well the Mod worked and EVGA again shows why they are the #1 for customer support.  Way to go EVGA!

Ummm a 770 is a downgrade from the 759 btw, going though with legal action is the wrong path you would be losing big time.... I was given a 770 for my 759 after the burnout and tbh the marvel chips are the pita with some devices, usb 3.0 has some issues. You cannot sue for something that could potentially happen. Only after it happens. Since EVGA is offering a solution now I would take that when its available and keep your 759 tbh... I wish I still had mine nf200 chip ftw....

As for your first question just keep an eye on the 24 pin connectors temps, there is a way to have a sensor attached to keep an eye on the heat on them someone on the forums did it, you can do that until you get the solution part from evga.
As for EVGA boards its not just evga, evga just got got caught with thier hands in the cookie jar is all. But they have stepped up and offered a solution.

This insert is so small it can fit even below the fansink on a dual slot card.

Doesnt seem a need for a riser or looking for an extra slot.  Dual slot card already has the extra slot available.

Thanks,

Jacob,

What do you consider an extreme setup? Also this fix will it take away one of my pci-e slots from use???

Thanks.

@dmoheban - I think it will cost you a PCI-E slot, but it is certainly a very good workaround for majority of people.  Those that use all PCI-E slots (like me) always have the ability to contact Jacob to O.K. alternate workarounds.

Props to EVGA for handling this in a superb manner.  Sign me up for one of these, even though I already worked around my problem

Fellas... Please read this note from Joe... It will not cost you any PCI-E slots.... (Link)

In late November, EVGA will provide a very small “PCI-E” insert that can plug into any available “PCI-E” slot on the motherboard. This insert very small and can fit even below the fansink on dual slot cards so you don’t lose a slot.  This insert will connect to a 4-pin molex connector from the power supply, and provide extra power on the “PCI-E” lanes for extreme systems.

will this pci-e fix be able to be installed in the x1/x4 slot for use?
